New overall and class champions crowned at the 2020 24H Series season finale

Creventic signed off a hectic 24H Series season at the Autodromo Internazionale del Mugello by celebrating its new overall and category champions in both the GT and TCE divisions.

Team Avia Sorg Rennsport took its second GT4 win of the season in Mugello with the BMW M4 GT4, sealing both the Overall GT Teams’ championship and the GT4-class title in the 24H Series Continents in the process. This marks the German team’s first overall championship win in the 24H Series and the second year in succession that Sorg Rennsport has secured GT4 honours.

Having been part of Team Avia Sorg Rennsport’s winning driver line-up at the 16H Hockenheimring as well, José Manuel de los Milagros and Björn Simon are the new Overall GT Drivers’ champions in the 24H Series Continents, the pair also finishing on top in the GT4-class standings. This marks Björn Simon’s second consecutive GT4-class drivers’ trophy, the German having taken the garland last year alongside Simon Tibbett and Olaf Meyer.

“This has been a crazy season with lots of ups and downs,” Björn Simon explained to Creventic. “We had a seven-hour race in Dubai because of the rain, we won at Hockenheim, we’ve finished 1st in Mugello, and now we’re a champion in the 24H Series Continents once again. I’m just so happy that all the guys at Creventic did everything to make this season work. They’ve put a lot of effort into this year and I’m very pleased!”

Across in the 24H Series Europe, PROsport Racing secured the Overall GT Teams’ crown thanks in no small part to its two class wins in Portimão and Monza. 2nd in-class at Mugello was enough to put the overall title beyond reach, and secure the German team GT4-class honours as well. This marks the first title win for PROsport since its Overall GT Teams’ win in 2018 as ‘PROsport Performance’, and its first altogether with the Aston Martin V8 Vantage AMR GT4.

A staple member of the PROsport Racing line-up throughout the season, Nico Verdonck secured his first championships in the 24H Series by securing both the Overall GT Drivers’ crown and the GT4-class Driver’s title in the 24H Series Europe.

“It’s a good feeling,” team manager Chris Esser explained to Creventic. “When the season started, we didn’t expect to finish the year like this in Mugello, and for us, it’s been a good ‘restart’ after a bad year in 2019. I’m really happy for my drivers and for my team, and hopefully next year we can achieve similarly things.”

Autorama Motorsport by Wolf-Power Racing replicated a sensational 2019 season by taking four TCE division wins and successfully defending its Overall TCE Teams’ crowns in both the 24H Series Europe and the 24H Series Continents.

In an equally lucrative season, touring car debutant Miklas Born has been crowned the Overall TCE Drivers’ champion in the European standings, secured the Junior Cup in both the European and Continental divisions, and together with teammate Roberto Ferri, secured the Overall TCE Drivers’ title in the 24H Series Continents.

To sign off an impressive season, the second Autorama Motorsport by Wolf-Power Racing Volkswagen finished as runner-up in the 24H Series Europe TCE standings and 3rd in the Continental TCE standings.

“This is a very, very good feeling,” Roberto Ferri explained to Creventic. “This year has been very hard, but that’s just made this win even more special. The team has performed perfectly, we had a very good race in Mugello with everything under control, very professional, and congratulations to the team. Of course we will be back for Dubai!”

Champions, per class

Herberth Motorsport continued its impressive run in the 24H Series with its third title in four seasons. The 2017 Overall GT Teams’ champion in the 24H Series Continents also sealed the A6-AM Teams’ title in 2019, and rounds out 2020 with the GT3-PRO championship in both the 24H Series Continents and the 24H Series Europe.

Drivers’ honours have been shared across the Herberth line-up. Thanks to a class win at Portimão and an outright win at Monza, team principal Alfred Renauer secured the Continental crown. Twin brother Robert meanwhile shares the European crown with Herberth staples Daniel Allemann and Ralf Bohn.

Having secured its first category win in the 24H Series under its new nomenclature at Hockenheim (and its second one round later in Pergusa), CP Racing signed off a successful year with the GT3-AM championship in the 24H Series Continents. In the process, Charles Putman, Charles Espenlaub and Shane Lewis became the new GT3-AM Drivers’ champions, marking the first titles for both Charleses since their Overall GT Drivers’ win in 2018.

Speed Lover, a former SPX class champion in 2018, collected its second championship in three years with 991-category honours in the 24H Series Europe, following the Belgian team’s second class win of the year in Mugello. After competing with three different teams in 2020, Eric Mouez collected a hard-earned 991-class Drivers’ crown in the European standings.

Mouez’s impressive campaign means he also picks up the 991 Drivers’ title in the 24H Series Continents, while DUWO Racing, a former CUP1 champion, collected the 991 Teams’ title aided considerably by its 2nd place overall in Hockenheim.

In its first full campaign with the new Ligier JS2 R, Nordschleife Racing signed off a successful 2020 with not only its first class win with the French sportscar but also the TCX class title in both the 24H Series Continents and the 24H Series Europe. This is the third Creventic category in which the French team has finished top of the standings, following its A3 and TCR class championships as Team Altran Peugeot in 2016 and 2017 respectively.

Guillaume Roman simultaneously secured the TCX Drivers’ championship in the 24H Series Continents. The French driver is now a two-time 24H Series championship winner having also secured the Touring Car Drivers’ crown alongside Stéphane Ventaja in 2016. Fittingly, Daniel Waszczinski, who returned to endurance racing action with Creventic for the first time since 2016, secured the TCX Drivers’ crown in the European standings.

Champions – Junior and Ladies Cups

As 18-year-old Miklas Born claimed both Junior Cups in the TCE division, 22-year-old Constantin Schöll claimed Junior GT honours in the 24H Series Continents and Europe.

Jasmin Preisig enjoyed a stellar maiden campaign with Creventic, an overall TCE victory at Hockenheim with Autorama Motorsport by Wolf-Power Racing going a long way towards securing the Swiss star the TCE Ladies Cup in both the 24H Series Continents and the 24H Series Europe. Across in the GT division, the Ladies Cup went to Corinna Gostner, who celebrated her first outright podium finish in the 24H Series with her teammates (and family members) at MP Racing in Mugello.
