Gulf Sportscar Championship GT3 class leaders GP Extreme face a tough challenge to maintain their lead at the top of the points standings with a record number of entries set for the next event at Dubai Autodrome on 24-25 January 2019.
Following their entry into this year’s Gulf 12 Hours at Yas Marina circuit in Abu Dhabi on 15 December, Swiss team Kessel Racing will enter all four of their Ferrari 488 GT3 cars for the first time this winter. The Ferraris will be joined by a twin Audi attack, with the return of Team WRT and Car Collection each fielding a single R8 LMS GT3 car. After taking race victory in Round 1, Team WRT were forced to skip the second round due to young driver Charles Weerts completing school exams, but will be free to challenge for the rest of the calendar.
The GPX Racing Renault RS1, fresh from securing victories in both races at Round 2 at Dubai driven by Jordan Grogor and Fred Fatien, will be competitively retired, replaced by the team’s new Porsche GT3 R in order to challenge for victory alongside the Ferrari and Audis in the top GT3 class.
The SVC Sport Management team will join the remaining rounds of the championship with a Lamborghini Huracan GT3. After provisionally expecting to join from Round 2 onwards, the team were forced to withdraw at the last-minute due to personal circumstances for one of their drivers. The Lamborgini will be joined by the returning GDL Racing Porsche 991 GT3 car driven by local UAE driver Mohammed Hussain, the Dragon Racing three-car challenge made up of a Ferrari 488 Challenge machine along with two Mercedes AMG GT4 cars.
The line-up will be completed by the Knight Connection Ligier JS P4 car which was debuted at this weekend’s second round of the championship by Gilles Petit and Boris Miljevic.
