DTM has got a new partner. From 2018, SAT.1 will exclusively cover the races of the popular touring-car series live in Germany. This means that the fans will be able to keep on watching the DTM races on a sports-orientated free-to-air station. The races will be broadcasted under the well-established umbrella sports brand ‘ran’. « It goes without saying that we look forward to the cooperation with such a big TV partner, » said Achim Kostron, Managing Director of DTM umbrella Organisation ITR. „That’s a strong signal for the series. »
Alexander Rösner, the head of ‘ran’ sports who is responsible for the entire sports content, said: « DTM guarantees top-class motor racing, spectacular action and the great German car brands battling it out with one another. With ‘ran racing’, we will put this renowned series on our platforms into the spotlight in a modern cross-media coverage. The spectators may look forward to an extensive and competent coverage from the circuits – and of course as usual in the high ‘ran’ quality. » Achim Kostron added: « SAT.1 is a perfect TV partner for DTM and the premium-car manufacturers involved: Audi, BMW and Mercedes. We jointly want to create an innovative and attractive TV concept. »
SAT.1 is the biggest channel of the Munich-based ProSiebenSat.1 Group. The group is one of the most successful independent media companies in Europe. The group successfully cross-links its wide-range TV business with its digital branch and consequently, DTM content is supposed to be distributed via a broad portfolio of TV channels and digital platforms. The contract duration of the deal between ITR and 7Sports, the sports-business unit of the ProSiebenSat.1 Group, amounts to two years.
SAT.1 will embed the coverage of the races on Saturday and Sunday into a strong programme format: the coverage will begin 30 minutes prior to the respective race and ends 15 minutes after the winner crossed the finish line, thus offering a lot of space for background features, analyses and interviews. The qualifying sessions will be streamed live at ran.de and the ‘ran’ App.
The members of the ‘ran’ team that is going to cover the DTM action live on site will be announced at a later point in time. The 2018 DTM season will be kicked off from 04th to 06th May at Hockenheim and comprises 10 race meetings. The full 2018 calendar will be announced by ITR before long.
