Following the cancellation of Rally Chile for 2020, Wales Rally GB has been selected as the fifth and final round of the 2020 FIA Junior WRC Championship. The rally was the scene of the dramatic conclusion to the 2019 championship which saw Jan Solans emerge as champion after a season-long fight with Swedes Tom Kristensson and Dennis Radstrom.
Wales Rally GB has been the site of many championship deciders throughout the history of the FIA World Rally Championship and is a classic rally that has its own unique characteristics when it comes to the stages. The final round of the championship awards double points to crews that have completed at least three of the previous four rallies. But in the rough and tumble of the often wet, foggy and muddy forest roads of Wales, simply finishing the rally in one piece is a challenge in itself. Crews will have to be careful when navigating the Welsh stages in their Ecoboost-powered Fiesta R2Ts with variable grip in muddy patches, poised to trip up any unwary crews, and piles of logs lining the stages that must be avoided at all costs. The 2019 edition saw its fair share of thrills and spills throughout the field including Sean Johnston and Alex Kihurani becoming the first ever American crew to stand on the FIA Junior WRC podium.

The rally itself is a very challenging one which does mean that this year’s crews will have to put in the extra hours to study and train for it in order to earn their double points for the last round of the season.”
