Rebellion Racing finishes on the podium at the 6 Hours of Spa-Francorchamps

After six months without a single race, Rebellion Racing distinguished itself at the 6 Hours of Spa-Francorchamps, the sixth round of the FIA World Endurance Championship.

The drivers of the Rebellion R13 N. 1 got off to a flying start to the weekend by setting the fastest time in the first free practice session on Thursday. Gustavo Menezes, Norman Nato and Bruno Senna remained at the top of the standings on Friday, during the last two practice sessions.

The Swiss squad, who set a very good pace, confirmed the trend in qualifying. Gustavo Menezes and Norman Nato set the fastest time of 1:59.577 and secured a fourth consecutive pole position for Rebellion Racing; a first in the history of the championship!

While the weekend started under a radiant sun, the rain invited itself to the party on Saturday, for the start of the race. Rainstorms fell on the Ardennes track and the start was given behind the safety car. When the intensity of the rain decreases, the green flag is raised. Norman Nato takes a good start and goes through the first corner in the lead. On this soggy track, the Frenchman cannot resist the Toyota’s and their four-wheel drive. The Rebellion R13 N. 1 falls to fourth place, but the horizon becomes clearer as the track dries out. Gustavo Menezes climbs aboard the prototype and continues the climb initiated by Norman Nato. The American driver posted an impressive pace that allowed him to finish third at the halfway point and set the fastest lap in 2:02.154. Bruno Senna succeeded him and maintained this third position until the finish.

In spite of these extremely difficult conditions, the rebels pulled through and climbed on the podium for the fifth consecutive time. Rebellion Racing is looking forward to its next goal, winning the mythical 24 Hours of Le Mans on September 19th and 20th!

Alexandre Pesci, President and Owner of Rebellion Racing :“Rebellion Racing was able to make the most of the opportunity to take third place despite these difficult conditions. We congratulate Toyota Gazoo Racing for their excellent work and their flawless race.”

Calim Bouhadra, CEO of Rebellion Corporation : “The conditions were extremely difficult. We suffered from not having four-wheel drive. This third place is welcome. We had a very fast car that would have allowed us to aim for victory in the dry. After losing the advantage in the rain, the gap we had to close was too big in these conditions. See you in a month’s time for the Le Mans 24 Hours!”
