Swiss Zoel Amberg joins drivers’ line-up of #39 Morgan EVO SARD

MOTORSPORT : EUROPEAN LE MANS SERIES - 4 HOURS OF PAUL RICARD (FRA) ROUND 4 09/13-14/2014Zoel Amberg is the sixth driver announced by racing team TEAM SARD MORAND for his two Morgan EVO SARDs entered in the LMP2 category of the 2015 FIA World Endurance Championship (WEC).

Born September 25, 1992, Zoel Amberg began his racing career with go-karts in 2004 before switching to single seaters through Formula Renault (FR) in 2009. After winning the title in the FR 2.0 Middle European Championship the following year, he also competed in GP3, European F3 Open Championship, and FR 3.5 series. Amberg emphasizes Benoit Morand’s support the young drivers from his native Switzerland.

The 22-year-old Swiss will share driving duties with Christian Klien from Austria and Koki Saga from Japan at the wheel of the #39 Morgan EVO SARD. In the first two rounds of the 2015 FIA WEC at Silverstone and Spa-Francorchamps, the other Morgan EVO SARD entered by racing team TEAM SARD MORAND (#43) will be driven by Oliver Webb, Pierre Ragues and Tristan Vautier, before the winner of the “Race to 24” show joins Webb and Ragues as of the 24 Hours of Le Mans.

Benoit Morand (Team Principal): “This is a tradition for our team to include a Swiss guy in the drivers’ line-up since our endurance debut in 2009. At that time I was the first to give a seat to Mathias Beche, then to Steve Zacchia and last year to Gary Hirsch. I have been following Zoel’s results in single seaters for the last two years and for me he has all the qualities of a very good endurance driver, with good team spirit and a very strong mind. Of course he will have to learn being on the race track with so many different cars and categories around, but I am convinced he will get used to it very quickly. I am very happy and proud since I am welcoming a driver from the German part of Switzerland for the first time!”

Zoel Amberg: “After following the team’s results last year, I met Benoit and his wife Gladys during the winter off-season. It was interesting, learning all the new plans from racing team TEAM SARD MORAND. Now I am ready to bring as much success as I can to the team. I think the FIA WEC is very competitve. I have never experienced so many different cars before, with GTs to prototypes. Also knowing that I will compete in the 24h of Le Mans is so exciting. This is a completely new challenge for me driving a prototype. Sharing the racing car with two other team mates is also new to me and events are much longer than I am used to. We have a strong driving line-up with Christian and Koki and for sure it is going to be awesome… I just can’t wait to start it all!”
