GT Open – A win on penalties for Kaspersky Motorsport

da33df5e-c622-4d27-9c5e-340bb01f5950The Kaspersky Motorsport crew of Davide Rizzo and Alex Moiseev took their third win in the International GT Open Series at the Paul Ricard circuit in the south of France today. It follows on from the double win the crew secured at Spa-Francorchamps a couple of weeks ago. A field of 27 cars lined up at the French track, which next year will see the Kaspersky Lab sponsored Scuderia Ferrari team in action as the French Grand Prix returns to the Formula 1 calendar. Having qualified second in the AM category, Alex Moiseev lined up on the 10th row of the grid for the start of the 70 minute race and was soon moving up the order to 17th place. After the compulsory pit stop on lap 14 Davide took over and steered the red, white and green Ferrari into 14th place to lead the AM class all the way to the chequered flag. It was a remarkable performance given that the two wins in Spa meant that our crew started the race knowing that a 15 second penalty had to be added to their final time. This is one of the rules that makes the GT Open series so exciting, as « success penalties » mean the cars race on a more level playing field, giving more cars a better chance of winning. But even with that penalty, Kaspersky Motorsport proved to have the measure of the opposition, recording a great win at the famous circuit. There’s no time to celebrate just yet, as tomorrow sees another qualifying session and race.

Davide Rizzo: « What a result, what a perfect day! I really enjoyed myself on track. I’d like to thank the whole team, they gave us a very good car to drive! Now it is heads down in preparation for tomorrow’s race ». Alex Moiseev: « I really enjoyed it today; it was nice to drive this track again. This year’s car feels good here. So far our base looks strong so it was a positive day and now we have to keep this going for tomorrow. We have a lot of data to analyse so the team will be busy. It is great to work together, we try to push each other and the best thing is to see that the team keeps progressing ».
