Blancpain GT Series Sprint Cup: Zampieri and Niederhauser battle to tenth place in Misano

MOTORSPORT : BLANCPAIN GT SERIES SPRINT CUP - MISANO (ITA) ROUND 1 04/06-10/2016Attempto Racing left the opening round of the Blancpain GT Series Sprint Cup with one point in the bag. The season-opener in Misano, Italy, also marked the race debut of the Hannover-based outfit with the Lamborghini Huracán GT3. The motorsport team was making its first appearance with three cars from the famous sports car manufacturer. In the end, it was the Italian/Swiss pairing of Daniel Zampieri (25) and Patric Niederhauser (24) that secured the first point for the team, courtesy of tenth place on Sunday. Attempto Racing had the fastest Lamborghini in the 40-strong field.

“I think we achieved a lot this weekend. We lacked the necessary pace to finish any higher here, but the team did a good job. We will try to take the positives out of the weekend and now prepare for the next round,” said Patric Niederhauser after the race. “I am satisfied, and pleased with the first point. However, the car is new and we can get a lot more out of it,” added team-mate Daniel Zampieri.

Saturday’s start to the season not only took place in the dark, but also on a damp track. Zampieri/Niederhauser’s car started the qualifying race from 23rd. At times, it was lapping at the same pace as the front-runners. The duo ultimately crossed the finish line in 18th place. The second car, with Dutch duo Max van Splunteren (20) and Jeroen Mul (25) at the wheel, finished 21st. The third Lamborghini Huracán GT3, driven by Britain’s Jack Falla (28) and Italian Davide Valsecchi (29), followed them over the line in 22nd place.

MOTORSPORT : BLANCPAIN GT SERIES - MISANO WORLD CIRCUIT (ITA) 2016/04/08-10In the main race, Zampieri/Niederhauser consistently made up places. Their fightback eventually ended with tenth place. Van Splunteren/Mul also improved on Sunday, finishing 20th overall and third in the Silver Cup. Fall and Valsecchi’s car was unable to take its place on the grid following a collision in the warm-up.

“All in all I am happy with the performance. There is obviously room for improvement, but we were the fastest Lamborghini in the field. We will definitely make a few changes and improve over the course of the season,” said Arkin Aka, Managing Director of Attempto Racing, summing up the weekend at the Misano World Circuit.
