Barcelona hosts final GP3 Series test

The GP3 Series will hold its third and final pre-season test of 2018 at the Circuit de Barcelona-Catalunya from the 16-18 April, spanning two days of running ahead of the venue’s season-opening round next month.

Having run with two drivers at the previous Jerez test, MP Motorsport adds a third car to their roster which will be driven by British racer and rookie Will Palmer. There are no further changes to the line-up seen at the last test.

At Jerez, Leonardo Pulcini of Campos Racing ended the test with the fastest time, grabbing a 1:30.255 in the final session to beat the benchmark set by ART Grand Prix’s Anthoine Hubert on the first day by just under two tenths of a second. Both days were characterised by wet running in the morning sessions, with Alessio Lorandi (Trident) setting the early pace on day one with a late run on slicks, before Hubert beat the Italian to the top of the timesheets by 0.3s.

Hubert’s teammate Callum Ilott led the way in another damp morning session on the second day, before Pulcini set the best pace of the test in the afternoon with thirty minutes remaining on the clock.

Testing at Barcelona will kick off on both days at 09:00, breaking at 12:00. On Wednesday, the running will resume at 14:00 until 17:00, but will restart on Thursday at 13:00 and end at 16:00. Teams will conduct their running on the medium compound of Pirelli PZero tyres throughout the test, having been allocated six sets per car.

This will be the last chance for the teams to bed their cars and drivers in for the new season and, since Barcelona plays host to the first race of the 2018 edition of GP3, this test will provide further importance to this year’s competitors.
