Formule Renault 2.0 NEC – Delétraz wins the championship title in the rain

Deletraz winner championshipAt Hockenheim the Swiss Louis Delétraz (Josef Kaufmann Racing) won his eighth race of the season as well as the championship. Race two saw a triple podium for Josef Kaufmann Racing and the battle for runner-up and the Rookie of the Year still has not been decided.

Because of the rain the start was behind the safety car. After two laps the safety car came in and Louis Delétraz lead Kevin Jörg (Josef Kaufmann Racing) all the way to the finish. Ukyo Sasahara (ART Junior Team) started from third but had a little outing off the wet track and had to let Dries Vanthoor and Nikita Mazepin (both Josef Kaufmann Racing) pass. From then on the top three did not change. When Mazepin went off and ran into the tire wall, it prevented Josef Kaufmann Racing to have the first four places. Sasahara finished fourth and is still in contention for the runner-up postion in the championship, only five points ahead of Kevin Jörg.

Newcomer Denis Bulatov (AVF) became the second-best Rookie in the race in fifth place. In sixth place followed Bulatovs’ teammate Josef Zaruba. The leader of the Rookies, Max Defourny (ART Junior Team), finished only ninth. He is now 16.5 points ahead of Jehan Daruvala (Fortec Motorsports). After a third place yesterday, the Force India junior did not finish the race.

Podium race 21. Louis Deletraz (#14 Josef Kaufmann Racing): « I had a very very good season, many wins, many podiums and so far a perfect weekend. The team did a great job all year and today I am happy to be on the podium together with my teammates. This afternoon in the last race of the season I will just go for it as I have nothing to loose. »

2. Kevin Jorg (#15 Josef Kaufmann Racing): « The start behind the safety car was ok and after the restart I drove a safe race. Louis was too far in front and I had no pressure from the back. Race three will make the decision where I am going to end in the championship. It is either me or Sasahara, but he will start behind me so I am in a better situation. »

3. Dries Vanthoor (#28 Josef Kaufmann Racing): « So far I had a sort of perfect weekend. Good free practice, good qualifying and a good race one untill I earned 10 penalty seconds for a jumpstart. I am happy to finish on the podium again and celebrate with my teammates. I learned a lot this year thanks to the megateam teaching me lots and giving me a great car, the RACB and my family. »

Lars Kaufmann, teammanager Josef Kaufmann Racing: « One, two and three on the podium today, the team won the teams’ championship and Louis (Delétraz) won the drivers’ championship. 8 wins for Louis, Kevin (Jörg) won twice and Dries (Vanthoor) one race. All went perfect, what more can I say. »
