KCMG secure GT World Challenge top 10 and valuable TOTAL 24 Hours of Spa preparation

KC Motorgroup Ltd. (KCMG) secured a top 10 finish in its wildcard GT World Challenge Europe Endurance Cup 6 Hours of Nürburgring appearance last weekend, a valuable step in the team’s preparation for the TOTAL 24 Hours of Spa on October 24-25.

With KCMG attempting the famous enduro with Porsche for the first time, it took to the Nürburgring GP circuit for the second round of the Endurance Cup in GT World Challenge Europe to gain further knowledge of the car and acclimatise to the Pirelli tyres that will be mandated at Spa, having used Michelins during its Nordschleife programme.

The team’s lack of running on the Italian rubber meant Nürburgring Langstrecken-Serie (NLS, previously VLN) mainstays Alexandre Imperatori, Josh Burdon and Edoardo Liberati on board the #21 Porsche 911 GT3 R could only manage 24th on the grid. However, a strong race strategy moved them up to eighth at the finish line.

The weekend proved a valuable source of data and knowledge, which will stand KCMG in good stead at Spa.

Josh Burdon, #21 Porsche 911 GT3 R: « I think eighth is a great result for everybody at KCMG. For us to finish in the top 10 on our debut event in GT World Challenge Europe is a really good achievement and it’s something we can be proud of. We still have a lot of work to do, but I’m excited and feel we are gaining solid momentum for the Nürburgring 24 Hours and the 24 Hours of Spa. »

Edoardo Liberati, #21 Porsche 911 GT3 R: « Eighth is definitely a strong result for us, especially given that it was our debut in GT World Challenge Europe. The main target was to collect as much data as possible to get ready for Spa and despite a difficult qualifying session, caused by our lack of experience with the Pirelli tyres, we came back in the race with strong pace and good strategy. I want to thank everyone at KCMG for their hard work. »

Alexandre Imperatori, #21 Porsche 911 GT3 R: « We can be happy with the result as we scored a top 10 finish on our debut in a really competitive championship. We learned a lot in preparation for Spa and I must thank the team, the strategy allowed us to recover from our disappointing grid slot. »

Paul Ip, KCMG founder: « It was a really positive weekend for the team and the drivers as we prepare for Spa. Getting used to the Pirelli tyres was always going to be a challenge, but I feel we adapted very quickly and showed some impressive pace by the end of the race. A top 10 finish on our first GT World Challenge Europe outing of the season is definitely a good place to start. »
