Fabio Scherer – Preview Assen: "It's good to have some fans back"

This weekend the fourth round of this year’s DTM season will take place at Assen. For DTM, it is the second appearance on the Dutch track after 2019. For Fabio Scherer it will be a new venue. The youngest driver in the field, aged 21 years, has never driven at Assen before but he is looking forward to races 7 and 8 on Saturday and Sunday.

« On the paper it looks like a fast track with some demanding corners, » says Fabio. « I think the layout should suit me. And I am definitely looking forward to it. New tracks are always a new challenge. And I love that. »

For the driver from WRT Team Audi Sport, the weekend is all about gaining further experience. Qualifying will be particularly important. « We’ve analysed the last qualifying sessions and we will hopefully make a step forward this weekend. Because the gaps in DTM are very small, a few tenths of a second can make a big difference. In Assen a good starting position is even more important because overtaking will probably not be that easy. »

For the first time this season spectators will be on site at Assen. Thanks to an ingenious protection concept 10’000 fans per day will be admitted. These are also good news for DTM-rookie Scherer, who is supported by STOBAG and ATS Banding Systems. « It will be a nice feeling to see some fans on the grandstands, » says Fabio. « There will even be some who will travel from Switzerland especially for this event. This is of course additional motivation for me. »

Team-principal Vincent Vosse of WRT Team Audi Sport is also looking forward to the next round. « In the DTM, the objective is to confirm the improvements we have shown in the two Lausitzring rounds. We have proven that we can have a good pace, both in qualifying and race, but we need to put all the elements together in a consistent way and avoid little mistakes. Assen, where we were ok last year, could be a good track to prove that. »
