Carrera Cup – Jeffrey Schmidt 4th in Oschersleben

Porsche Carrera Cup Deutschland 2016Porsche Junior Sven Müller made a dream start into the season. The 25-year-old German scored two convincing victories at the first two races of the Porsche Carrera Cup Deutschland. At Oschersleben, the Konrad Motorsport pilot also posted pole position twice in his 460 hp Porsche 911 GT3 Cup. On Saturday, Müller beat Porsche Junior Dennis Olsen (N/Team Lechner Huber Racing) and Nick Foster (AUS/KÜS Team75 Bernhard) to the flag. On Sunday he relegated Christian Engelhart (D/MRS GT-Racing) and Olsen to positions two and three. “Of course I’m delighted with such a weekend and double victory! I was able to quickly build a decent advantage in the second race, although at the end it was tight. Still, it was enough. Things can continue like this,” said a beaming Müller.

Müller got away well at the start and immediately put several metres between him and the rest of the pack. Engelhart and Olsen followed. While the top positions seemed secure, behind them a fight for positions broke out. David Kolkmann (D/Rookie Team Deutsche Post by Project 1), Jeffrey Schmidt (CH/Team Lechner Huber Racing) and Foster treated fans to some gripping duels and overtaking manoeuvres. Schmidt, who had claimed the GT3 Cup Challenge Middle East title in the winter, saw the flag in fourth after 22 laps. Foster, the reigning Porsche Carrera Cup Australia champion, came fifth ahead of Kolkmann.

In the overall classification, Müller leads with 40 points ahead of Olsen on 34. At just 20 years old, Olsen also leads the rookie classification. “Positions two and three are results I can be very happy with. I didn’t expect it. My start was great in both races. In the second race I considered going for Engelhart, but the risk was simply too great. I’m looking forward to the next race weekend in Hockenheim,” said Olsen. Rounds three and four of the Porsche Carrera Cup Deutschland will be run as support to the DTM on 6-8 May on the Hockenheimring.

Christian Engelhart (D/MRS GT-Racing) contested four races this weekend: In addition to the Porsche Carrera Cup Deutschland, he also competed in the ADAC GT Masters in the Motorsportarena Oschersleben. This dual commitment didn’t seem to faze the seasoned Porsche specialist. “To climb into the Cup Porsche immediately after winning the ADAC GT Masters was somewhat unusual. But what could be better! I also enjoyed a great race in the Carrera Cup. Dennis Olsen put me under a lot of pressure in the first laps but I was able to fend him off. Second place is perfectly fine,” said Engelhart.
