Supercars – Qualifying the key for Kelly Racing in Tasmania

Kelly Racing is aiming to turn around its fortunes ahead of tomorrow’s 200km race at Symmons Plains Raceway in Tasmania.

Today at the short Symmons circuit, Castrol Racing’s Rick Kelly was the fastest Kelly Racing car, claiming 17th on the grid. In the 120km race, Kelly stayed out of trouble to finish in the same place he started.

Plus Fitness Racing’s Andre Heimgartner did not set a lap in qualifying after an engine misfire halted his run. Starting from the rear of the grid, the fast Kiwi stormed his way up to 18th, just behind Kelly.

Team Harvey Norman driver Simona de Silverstro qualified 23rd but picked up two places to finish 21st.

RABBLE.Club driver Garry Jacobson started the race from 24th and was forced to make two pit stops, eventually coming home in the same position.

The final day of racing at Symmons Plains tomorrow will feature a practice session at 9:25am, qualifying at 11:15am and the 200km Race 8, starting at 2:05pm.

QUOTES

Rick Kelly #15 Castrol Racing : “Traditionally, the Tassie track has been tough on us, and we’ve come here with a car that we are yet to fully understand There are some areas of strength and weakness, but we didn’t have the day we needed in qualifying. When you qualify at the back, that’s where you run. We don’t have the car to be at the front, but our cars are good enough to be closer to the top 10, so we need to nail qualifying to be in with a chance.”

Andre Heimgartner #7 Plus Fitness : “It was a tough day for us, for sure It’s hard to know where we are because we missed qualifying, but we’ll start again tomorrow. It’s a credit to our team for getting my car back and running OK after the dramas. They have worked really hard today and I hope we can give them a result tomorrow.”

Simona De Silvestro #78 Team Harvey Norman : “It was difficult today. We are struggling and it’s frustrating. It has been a tough weekend so far, but we’ll throw a bunch of new things at it tomorrow and see if we can move forward. We are certainly trying to improve, so we’ll see what we can do tomorrow.”

Garry Jacobson #3 RABBLE.Club : “It was certainly a frustrating day for myself and the team We just don’t have the car speed and we need to work hard to address that. We’ll change things up for tomorrow and I’m confident that we will improve.”
