Ferrari heads to Total 24 Hours of Spa as leader in the Intercontinental GT Challenge

The near faultless race from the Maranello Motorsport drivers on the legendary Mount Panorama Circuit gave Ferrari the lead in the 2017 Intercontinental GT Challenge standings. The legendary Italian manufacturer will hold that lead until at least the last weekend of July, when the Total 24 Hours of Spa takes place.

Liqui Moly Bathurst 12HRThe longest race on the Intercontinental GT Challenge calendar will again see a confrontation at the highest GT3 level in the Belgian Ardennes. With a couple of teams recently indicating their intention to be present with a full professional line-up in a Ferrari 488 GT3, the Prancing Horse will be in a good position to defend its lead.

Whether the leaders in the driver standings – Bathurst winners Jamie Whincup, Toni Vilander and Craig Lowndes – will be at the start in Spa is not yet known, but after the finish of the Liqui-Moly Bathurst 12 Hour Lowndes was quick to confirm he will do his utmost to race in the Total 24 Hours of Spa. The V8 Supercars legend raced in the 2014 edition of the Belgian endurance classic, finishing on the podium in the Pro-Am class.

In the GT4 Manufacturers standings PROSport Porsche is the first leader of the new Intercontinental GT Challenge season, but with GT4 cars not eligible to race in Spa, their next round will be the brand new Mazda Raceway California 8 Hours, on October 14-15.
