DTM – Victory and points’ lead for Mortara

Motorsports / DTM 04 NorisringEdoardo Mortara is the winner of the seventh race of the DTM season. After 49 laps of the Norisring in Nuremberg on Saturday, the Audi driver crossed the finish line as the winner and thus put an end to the winning streak of Mercedes-AMG that continued since 2003. Jamie Green completed the success for Audi in the brand’s home round by finishing second, 0.531 seconds down on his fellow Audi driver. “Finally scoring that first win for Audi here after so many years is a great feeling,” winner Mortara commented after the race. “In the last few races, I have made some mistakes, but today, I was taking it more easily. I didn’t have the fastest car, but I managed to keep Jamie behind me until the end.”

Mercedes-AMG driver Paul Di Resta rounded out the Norisring podium by finishing third. Local hero Marco Wittmann, the 26-year-old who is living in Fürth, only a few kilometres away from Nuremberg, came home in fourth in the first race of the weekend, followed by further BMW drivers Bruno Spengler and Maxime Martin.

Motorsports / DTM 04 NorisringWhile Mortara was cheering, there was disappointment for Christian Vietoris and Robert Wickens. Vietoris, who had started from pole position, led the field until lap 20 from Robert Wickens, but then saw his hopes of victory blown: at the Grundig hairpin, both drivers were taken out as an attempt to overtake by Mattias Ekström went wrong. While the race was over for Wickens and Ekström, Vietoris still managed to bring tenth place home.
