ATS from 2017 official and exclusive wheel supplier of DTM

DTM-1458033091While the 2016 season kick-off is (06th to 08th May) is approaching more and more, the DTM management already is working on the preparations for the coming years. Now, DTM’s umbrella organisation, ITR, and ‘ATS Leichtmetallräder GmbH’ signed a deal concerning the production and supply of control wheels. From 2017, all the DTM touring cars – no matter what brand – will race on the new ‘ATS Schmiederad’ (forged wheel). With this agreement, ATS, brand of UNIWHEELS AG, will be come industry partner of the series as well as official and exclusive wheel supplier of DTM. The agreement stipulates a contract duration of three years minimum.

The ATS motor-racing- and forged-wheel production based in Fußgönheim, Germany, already is working flat out. After all, the manufacturers involved in DTM, Audi, BMW and Mercedes-Benz, are supposed to be supplied with the first test wheels as early as this summer. The wheel will be forged aluminium wheels in the dimensions 12×18 for the front and 13×18 for the rear axle. The new forged aluminium wheels will be made of a special high-strength alloy. The design of the wheels was optimised by dint of computer supported simulations, resulting in a wheel that meets the highest demands regarding ruggedness and solidity on the one hand and in a highly aesthetical look on the other. Numerous quality controls during the extremely complex production process makes sure that every wheel is manufactured within very tight weight tolerances within the limits of the stipulated minimum weight, thus guaranteeing equal opportunities for all the cars.

Dr Thomas Buchholz, CEO of UNIWHEELS AG, said: “For many years, now, our brand ATS has been involved in Formula 3 as exclusive wheel supplier. And now, we also exclusively will supply exclusive control wheels for the world’s best touring-car series, DTM. We are really proud of being the exclusive wheel supplier of DTM, from 2017. Our involvement in motor racing offers us a fantastic opportunity to demonstrate the technical know-how of ATS and the entire UNIWHEELS Group in outstanding style.”

Hans Werner Aufrecht, ITR Chairman, also proved to be delighted about the agreement: “By signing the deal with ATS we gained a partner for DTM that can hark back to a lot of know-how and experience in its area – factors that are crucial for the quality and toughness in motor racing.”

The coming wheel was designed and developed by ATS exclusively for DTM and will be produced solely in Germany. All this to guarantee the highest quality and the shortest possible response times.
