\nPlaine de Glen Etive, Ecosse, 9 avril 2018. Apr\u00e8s plusieurs dizaines de kilom\u00e8tres dans les Highlands, j\u2019ai enfin atteint mon but. J\u2019arr\u00eate le moteur. Silence total, l\u2019atmosph\u00e8re est lourde. L\u2019assaut de la partie adverse ne va pas tarder, et je devrai assur\u00e9ment me servir des gadgets que Q a implant\u00e9s dans \u00ab\u00a0ma\u00a0\u00bb DB11 issue tout droit des quartiers de M.<\/p>\n

Manque de bol, cette sc\u00e8ne n\u2019a jamais exist\u00e9. Je ne suis pas en Ecosse, je n\u2019ai aucun point commun avec 007, et vous savez comme moi que c\u2019est la l\u00e9gendaire Aston Martin DB5 qui joue dans la sc\u00e8ne finale de Skyfall. Retour sur terre. Ou pas. S\u2019asseoir \u00e0 bord d\u2019une Aston Martin, c\u2019est d\u00e9j\u00e0 pas mal. Mais en faire sa propre monture pour trois jours, c\u2019est se voir transport\u00e9 dans une autre dimension. Vraiment\u00a0? Petite, car il y a l\u2019autre, celle avec le V12 5.2L bi-turbo de 608 ch qui a \u00e9t\u00e9 pr\u00e9sent\u00e9e au Salon de Gen\u00e8ve 2016 pour succ\u00e9der \u00e0 la DB9. Il faudra attendre une ann\u00e9e pour voir arriver le V8 4.0L bi-turbo de 510 ch d\u2019origine Mercedes-AMG, qui \u00e9quipe \u00e9galement la nouvelle Aston Martin Vantage. Environ CHF 20’000.- et 100 ch s\u00e9parent les deux motorisations, des \u00e9carts faibles quand on parle de v\u00e9hicules de plus de 500ch et d\u00e9passant les CHF 200’000.-. A ce niveau de gamme, on pourrait \u00eatre tent\u00e9 de ne pas r\u00e9fl\u00e9chir et de s\u2019orienter les yeux ferm\u00e9s vers le V12, le top quoi !<\/p>\n

Pourtant, \u00e0 y regarder de plus pr\u00e8s, la DB11 V8 a de quoi attirer l\u2019attention. Tout d\u2019abord, la DB11 V8 ne rend qu\u2019un petit dixi\u00e8me \u00e0 la V12 sur l\u2019exercice du 0-100 km\/h (4.0 contre 3.9 secondes). Cela s\u2019explique par le gain de poids non n\u00e9gligeable de 110 kg en faveur du V8. Et qui dit poids et cylindr\u00e9e r\u00e9duits dit automatiquement consommation moindre : sur l\u2019autoroute, la DB11 V8 s\u2019est content\u00e9e de moins de 8.5 l\/100km, de quoi voir loin avec son r\u00e9servoir de 78 litres. Enfin, l\u2019\u00e9conomie de poids se faisant sur le moteur qui est plac\u00e9 en position centrale avant, la DB11 V8 est dot\u00e9e d\u2019une meilleure r\u00e9partition des masses (49\/51 avant\/arri\u00e8re), alors que la V12 est un peu plus lourde sur l\u2019avant (51\/49).<\/p>\n

Toutefois, il faut reconna\u00eetre l\u2019excellence des mat\u00e9riaux choisis et des finitions de premi\u00e8re qualit\u00e9, comme les coutures contrast\u00e9es, le cuir lisse omnipr\u00e9sent – jusque dans les contours de l’\u00e9cran central – ou encore les contre-portes en carbone (CHF 4’789.-). Enfin, pour le c\u00f4t\u00e9 007, les haut-parleurs de la sonorisation Bang & Olufsen (CHF 8’906.-) sortent de la planche de bord lorsqu’on allume la radio.<\/p>\n

Aussit\u00f4t derri\u00e8re le volant, je suis surpris par la fermet\u00e9 des si\u00e8ges, qui ne sont pas inconfortables pour autant. La garde au toit est limite pour mes 195 cm, mais la distance entre le p\u00e9dalier et le volant tir\u00e9 au maximum est grande, j\u2019ai donc une bonne position de conduite, en d\u00e9pit de l\u2019appui-t\u00eate fixe qui est un peu trop bas pour moi. Les places arri\u00e8re sont symboliques, mais permettront d\u2019emmener deux enfants sur un petit trajet ou de compl\u00e9ter les 270 litres du coffre.<\/p>\n

Face \u00e0 moi, les compteurs sont tous num\u00e9riques mais restent s\u00e9par\u00e9s, il n\u2019y a donc pas de variantes d\u2019affichage possible. C\u2019est simple, \u00e9pur\u00e9 et efficace\u00a0: le compte-tours est au centre, entour\u00e9 de part et d\u2019autre par les traditionnelles jauges et l\u2019ordinateur de bord, ainsi que deux cercles indiquant dans quels modes de conduite se trouve la voiture. Les boutons correspondants se trouvent sur le volant de chaque c\u00f4t\u00e9\u00a0: \u00e0 gauche on joue sur l\u2019amortissement, et \u00e0 droite sur la sonorit\u00e9 et la cartographie moteur\/bo\u00eete sur trois niveaux (GT, Sport ou Sport+).<\/p>\n

D\u00e8s le d\u00e9marrage, le V8 sait se faire remarquer \u00e0 travers une sonorit\u00e9 grave et envo\u00fbtante. Une fois engag\u00e9 sur la route, la DB11 reste toutefois assez discr\u00e8te et douce tant que l\u2019on reste en mode GT. Mais d\u00e8s le mode Sport enclench\u00e9, la donne change \u00e0 tous points de vue. La sonorit\u00e9 devient bestiale tant en acc\u00e9l\u00e9ration qu\u2019en d\u00e9c\u00e9l\u00e9ration avec de nombreux borborygmes, et ce sans aucun bruit parasite de la suralimentation ! Et dire que je suis au volant de la \u00ab petite \u00bb DB11 ! Pourtant, je n\u2019ai vraiment pas l\u2019impression qu\u2019elle soit sous-motoris\u00e9e, le moteur \u00e9tant tr\u00e8s volontaire \u00e0 tous les r\u00e9gimes et la bo\u00eete ZF \u00e0 8 rapports \u2013 plac\u00e9e en position centrale arri\u00e8re \u2013 livrant une parfaite copie, prompte \u00e0 catapulter la DB11 \u00e0 des vitesses tr\u00e8s rapidement r\u00e9pr\u00e9hensibles. Encore heureux, me direz-vous, avec 510 ch sous le pied droit\u2026<\/p>\n

Excellente r\u00e9partition des masses, sonorit\u00e9 expressive, agr\u00e9ment moteur\/bo\u00eete sans reproche et amortissement assez ferme pour une GT : tous les ingr\u00e9dients sont au rendez-vous pour prendre son pied au volant de cette DB11 V8\u00a0! Toutefois, peu apr\u00e8s \u00eatre pass\u00e9 en mode Sport+ et avoir param\u00e9tr\u00e9 l’ESP sur Track, quelques d\u00e9rives involontaires du train arri\u00e8re me remettent rapidement \u00e0 l\u2019ordre. Je n\u2019avais pourtant pas l\u2019impression de rouler vite et j\u2019\u00e9tais loin d\u2019\u00eatre pied au fond. Il faut dire que les premiers sinueux que j\u2019emprunte ne sont pas tr\u00e8s lisses ce qui nuit \u00e0 la motricit\u00e9, et que la p\u00e9dale de droite est tr\u00e8s \u2013 trop \u2013 sensible, ce qui rend le dosage ardu. D\u2019ailleurs, j\u2019ai eu parfois de la peine \u00e0 m\u2019engager dans le trafic de mani\u00e8re pr\u00e9cise, la voiture acc\u00e9l\u00e9rant trop ou pas assez. Puis, une fois en franche acc\u00e9l\u00e9ration, le moindre surplus de gaz d\u00e9clenche une avalanche de newton-m\u00e8tres suppl\u00e9mentaires qui fait perdre pied au train arri\u00e8re.<\/p>\n

Confortable par d\u00e9faut, mais sonore et virile \u00e0 la demande, l\u2019Aston Martin DB11 V8 n\u2019est pas \u00e0 mettre entre toutes les mains, m\u00eame sur chauss\u00e9e s\u00e8che. Heureusement, l\u2019ESP est toujours bien actif m\u00eame en mode Sport+, et il faut traverser deux menus afin de choisir les modes Track ou OFF. Sur les rev\u00eatements imparfaits, je laisserai les suspensions sur le r\u00e9glage interm\u00e9diaire, la duret\u00e9 maximale ne r\u00e9duisant pas le tangage de mani\u00e8re significative.<\/p>\n

Le v\u00e9ritable juge de paix de cet essai sera sans doute la mont\u00e9e vers Saint-Cergue, parcourue \u00e0 plusieurs reprises pour notre s\u00e9ance photos. Cette fois, la route est lisse, mais comporte de nombreux virages qui se referment. En rentrant fort sur les freins, le train avant perd un peu en pr\u00e9cision, mais conserve une r\u00e9serve de grip \u00e9tonnante. Dans cet environnement m\u00eal\u00e9 de lacets et d\u2019\u00e9pingles, la DB11 ne fait clairement pas son poids de 1\u2019760 kg ! Seule ombre au tableau : les palettes \u00e9tant solidaires de la colonne de direction, j\u2019aurais appr\u00e9ci\u00e9 pouvoir me servir d\u2019un shifter dans certains virages. Mais \u00e0 cette place, Aston Martin a pr\u00e9f\u00e9r\u00e9 implanter le combin\u00e9 de Mercedes dot\u00e9 d\u2019une molette et d\u2019un pad tactile.<\/p>\n
