Mais pas n\u2019importe laquelle puisqu\u2019il s\u2019agit de la Bentley Bentayga W12 de 608 ch que la firme anglaise qualifie de \u00ab SUV le plus rapide du monde \u00bb !<\/strong><\/p>\n

Pr\u00e9cisons d\u2019embl\u00e9e que si nous n\u2019avons pas pu v\u00e9rifier la vitesse de pointe de 301 km\/h annonc\u00e9e par le constructeur (notre mod\u00e8le d\u2019essai \u00e9tait \u00e9quip\u00e9 de pneus d\u2019hiver limit\u00e9s \u00e0 260 km\/h), nous pouvons n\u00e9anmoins vous garantir que les acc\u00e9l\u00e9rations de la Bentley Bentayga sont tout simplement prodigieuses. Elle n\u2019a en effet besoin que de quatre secondes pour passer de 0 \u00e0 100 km\/h, ce qui est plus rapide qu\u2019une Porsche Boxster 718 S<\/a> qui r\u00e9alise le m\u00eame exercice en 4,2 secondes tout en pesant plus d\u2019une tonne de moins\u00a0!<\/p>\n

\nDu coup, l\u2019essai de la Bentley Bentayga W12 a parfaitement sa place sur notre site, d\u2019autant plus qu\u2019il a co\u00efncid\u00e9 avec l\u2019annonce de la participation du constructeur britannique \u00e0 la c\u00e9l\u00e8bre course de c\u00f4te de Pikes Peak qui aura lieu le 24 juin prochain au Colorado. Bentley y engagera une Bentayga tr\u00e8s proche de la s\u00e9rie pour le N\u00e9o-Z\u00e9landais Rhys Millen qui compte plusieurs victoires de classe dans cette grande classique am\u00e9ricaine et qui n\u2019est autre que le fils de Rod Millen. Ce dernier s\u2019est impos\u00e9 \u00e0 cinq reprises au classement g\u00e9n\u00e9ral de la course de c\u00f4te et fait partie, avec Mich\u00e8le Mouton, Walter R\u00f6hrl, Ari Vatanen et S\u00e9bastien Loeb, de quelques-unes des l\u00e9gendes du rallye \u00e0 avoir triomph\u00e9 \u00e0 Pikes Peak.<\/p>\n

\nCette participation \u00e0 la course de c\u00f4te la plus c\u00e9l\u00e8bre du monde renforcera l\u2019image sportive de la Bentayga et, par cons\u00e9quent, \u00e9galement celle de Bentley. Une image qui fait partie de l\u2019ADN de la firme au B ail\u00e9 comme en t\u00e9moignent ses cinq succ\u00e8s aux 24 Heures du Mans et ses diff\u00e9rentes victoires obtenues en grand tourisme avec la Continental GT3. Les acquis sportifs de la marque se retrouvent tout naturellement dans la Bentayga de notre essai. On pense avant tout au \u00ab\u00a0Bentley Dynamic Ride\u00a0\u00bb, un syst\u00e8me \u00e9lectronique de contr\u00f4le actif du roulis. Celui-ci, sit\u00f4t le mode \u00ab\u00a0Sport\u00a0\u00bb s\u00e9lectionn\u00e9, minimise le roulis dans les virages. Il nous a permis de franchir les cols du Pillon et des Mosses avec une efficacit\u00e9 qui n\u2019avait rien \u00e0 envier \u00e0 celle de voitures catalogu\u00e9es plus sportives telles que les Porsche Panamera Turbo<\/a> et Panamera Turbo S E-Hybrid<\/a> ou encore la Bentley Flying Spur W12 S<\/a>.<\/p>\n

La comparaison avec la derni\u00e8re nomm\u00e9e, la Flying Spur W12 S, n\u2019est pas anodine. Aux dires d\u2019un responsable de Bentley Gen\u00e8ve, les ventes de la Bentayga W12 \u00ab ont quelque peu cannibalis\u00e9\u00a0\u00bb celles des berlines Mulsanne et Flying Spur. Cela en raison de la plus grande polyvalence du SUV autoproclam\u00e9 \u00ab\u00a0le v\u00e9hicule tout-terrain fait \u00e0 la main le plus luxueux du monde\u00a0\u00bb. La Bentayga a en effet non seulement un int\u00e9rieur typiquement Bentley et personnalisable \u00e0 l\u2019infini, mais \u00e9galement un hayon tr\u00e8s pratique pour y glisser ses skis, ses sacs de golf, ses accessoires de p\u00eache ou encore son panier de pique-nique Bentley propos\u00e9 en option avec des coupes de cristal.<\/p>\n

\nLa polyvalence de la Bentayga est \u00e9galement soulign\u00e9e par une garde au sol qui est beaucoup plus \u00e9lev\u00e9e que celles de la Mulsanne et de la Flying Spur. Elle s\u2019av\u00e8re par cons\u00e9quent id\u00e9ale pour aller p\u00eacher dans le lit m\u00eame d\u2019une rivi\u00e8re ou pour aller pique-niquer au sommet d\u2019une dune des Emirats Arabes Unis, un march\u00e9 tr\u00e8s friand de Bentley Bentayga. Dans cette derni\u00e8re perspective, le plus grand avantage de la Bentayga, par rapport aux deux berlines pr\u00e9cit\u00e9es, r\u00e9side dans sa sp\u00e9cification tout-terrain, b\u00e9n\u00e9ficiant de quatre configurations en plus des quatre modes de conduite standards. Si la configuration Neige et Herbe<\/strong> am\u00e9liore consid\u00e9rablement l\u2019adh\u00e9rence sur les surfaces \u00e0 faible frottement, celle Terre et Gravier<\/strong> se traduit par une motricit\u00e9 optimale sur les graviers et gravillons. Quant au mode Boue et Piste<\/strong>, il permet de configurer les diff\u00e9rents syst\u00e8mes pour les terrains boueux et irr\u00e9guliers. Enfin, avec la configuration Sable<\/strong>, vous pouvez vous engager dans les dunes avec plus d\u2019assurance.<\/p>\n

Etant donn\u00e9 que nous avons essay\u00e9 la Bentley Bentayga W12 en p\u00e9riode hivernale, nous avons pu appr\u00e9cier ses capacit\u00e9s de franchissement, \u00e0 proximit\u00e9 du sommet du col des Mosses, sur des chemins menant \u00e0 des pistes de ski. Des chemins qui \u00e9taient davantage habitu\u00e9s \u00e0 voir circuler des motoneiges qu\u2019une Bentley\u00a0! L\u2019examen a donc \u00e9t\u00e9 on ne peut plus concluant. M\u00eame constat en ce qui concerne l\u2019impression de s\u00e9curit\u00e9 qui se d\u00e9gage en roulant sur des routes enneig\u00e9es. L\u2019adh\u00e9rence de la Bentley n\u2019a en effet jamais \u00e9t\u00e9 prise en d\u00e9faut durant notre essai.<\/p>\n

Celui-ci, factur\u00e9 4\u2019335 euros (la marque britannique ne communique ses prix qu\u2019en euros), comprend notamment une cam\u00e9ra \u00ab\u00a0vue de dessus\u00a0\u00bb, diff\u00e9rentes aides au stationnement, ainsi qu\u2019un syst\u00e8me de reconnaissance des panneaux de signalisation et de d\u00e9tection des pi\u00e9tons. Le pack \u00ab\u00a0Touring Specification\u00a0\u00bb, (6195 euros), propose notamment un affichage t\u00eate haute, un r\u00e9gulateur de vitesse adaptatif et un assistant de maintien sur la voie. Avec sa Bentayga W12, Bentley propose non seulement un SUV capable d\u2019acc\u00e9l\u00e9rer de 0 \u00e0 100 km\/h en 4,1 secondes et d\u2019atteindre une vitesse de pointe de 301 km\/h, mais \u00e9galement un v\u00e9hicule polyvalent, coupleux \u00e0 souhait \u2013 il g\u00e9n\u00e8re un couple \u00ab \u00e9l\u00e9phantesque \u00bb de 990 Nm d\u00e8s les bas r\u00e9gimes \u2013 et tr\u00e8s efficient. Ce dernier point s\u2019explique par une excellente bo\u00eete automatique ZF \u00e0 huit rapports et par un moteur essence W12 avec syst\u00e8me de cylindr\u00e9e variable qui nous a permis de ne consommer qu\u2019une moyenne de 14,2 l\/100 km durant notre essai. Celui-ci a certes compris plus de 400 km d\u2019autoroute o\u00f9 l\u2019aiguille du compte-tours n\u2019affichait que 1\u2019500 trs\/minute \u00e0 120 km\/h, mais nous avons \u00e9galement effectu\u00e9 du tout-terrain sur des chemins enneig\u00e9s et escalad\u00e9 plusieurs cols \u00e0 vive allure. Inutile de pr\u00e9ciser que c\u2019est dans ces cols que nous avons eu le plus de plaisir.
