La conduite autonome est un signal tr\u00e8s fort en mati\u00e8re d\u2019automatisation. Pourquoi ? Car cela touche de pr\u00e8s ou de loin tous les individus vivant dans les pays o\u00f9 l\u2019automobile est un gros march\u00e9. On ne parle pas d\u2019un prototype de robot en cours de d\u00e9veloppement dans le sous-sol d\u2019une universit\u00e9. On parle de ce qui se passe sur nos routes, devant nos yeux, tous les jours. L\u2019automobile fait partie du quotidien pour une bonne partie des Suisses, comme partout en Europe.<\/p>\n
Certains constructeurs mettent d\u00e9j\u00e0 depuis quelques ann\u00e9es l\u2019accent sur le d\u00e9veloppement de v\u00e9hicules autonomes. D\u2019autres concentrent leurs efforts sur l\u2019hybridation ou l\u2019\u00e9lectrification de leurs mod\u00e8les. Mais une chose est s\u00fbre : peu de voix s\u2019\u00e9l\u00e8vent contre la conduite autonome. Alors, le futur de la mobilit\u00e9 individuelle est-il d\u00e9j\u00e0 jou\u00e9 ? Comment se passerait la cohabitation entre des voitures sans conducteur et des voitures conventionnelles ? A terme, allons-nous perdre tout contr\u00f4le sur nos d\u00e9placements ? Il s\u2019agit l\u00e0 de questions, j\u2019ose le dire, \u00ab existentielles \u00bb, pour le passionn\u00e9 de voitures et de conduite que je suis.<\/p>\n

En janvier 2017, Lexus a donn\u00e9 son avis sur la conduite autonome \u00e0 travers un clip promotionnel qui illustre de mani\u00e8re efficace ce que nous risquons de perdre en nous laissant conduire par une machine :<\/p>\n

\nBien s\u00fbr, on peut penser que l\u2019activit\u00e9 consistant \u00e0 conduire un v\u00e9hicule ne passionne pas la majorit\u00e9 des conducteurs, pour qui l\u2019essentiel est de se rendre du point A au point B. Toutefois, \u00e0 l\u2019heure actuelle, les personnes pr\u00eates \u00e0 se laisser conduire par leur voiture seraient en nette minorit\u00e9. C\u2019est ce que montre une \u00e9tude r\u00e9alis\u00e9e par Mazda aupr\u00e8s de quelques 11’008 clients<\/a>, et dont les r\u00e9sultats ont \u00e9t\u00e9 publi\u00e9s en d\u00e9cembre 2017. Il en ressort notamment que seuls 33% des conducteurs seraient favorables \u00e0 la g\u00e9n\u00e9ralisation des v\u00e9hicules autonomes. En France, ce taux baisse m\u00eame \u00e0 25%. Dans la foul\u00e9e, la Coupe du Monde de Football est captur\u00e9e en 3D par Sony et diffus\u00e9e en direct\u00a0: le march\u00e9 n\u2019arrive pas \u00e0 suivre, certaines enseignes sont en rupteur de stock de dalles 3D. Pourtant, huit ans apr\u00e8s, il n\u2019en reste quasiment plus rien\u00a0: les cin\u00e9mas et les fabricants d\u2019\u00e9crans ont rang\u00e9 la 3D au placard, et personne ne s\u2019en semble s\u2019en soucier. Seuls quelques cin\u00e9philes et joueurs inv\u00e9t\u00e9r\u00e9s l\u2019utilisent encore. Outre le prix \u00e9lev\u00e9 des \u00e9quipements et la difficult\u00e9 \u00e0 cr\u00e9er en masse les contenus 3D, le principal probl\u00e8me emp\u00eachant cette technologie de s\u2019imposer fut le port obligatoire des lunettes. Cet exemple est tr\u00e8s int\u00e9ressant car il montre que c\u2019est l\u2019une des rares fois qu\u2019une technologie n\u2019est pas remplac\u00e9e par une autre, mais tout bonnement abandonn\u00e9e par manque d\u2019int\u00e9r\u00eat de la communaut\u00e9, alors m\u00eame qu\u2019elle avait fait une entr\u00e9e fracassante sur le march\u00e9. Il s\u2019agit en outre d\u2019un signal fort\u00a0: m\u00eame assomm\u00e9 de d\u00e9monstrations et des slogans les plus vendeurs, l\u2019humain peut dire non.<\/p>\n <\/p>\n <\/p>\n Voitures \u00e9lectriques et conduite autonome arrivant simultan\u00e9ment – \u00e0 une d\u00e9cennie pr\u00e8s – sur le march\u00e9, tout le monde a tendance \u00e0 les associer. Une opportunit\u00e9 en or pour les constructeurs qui ma\u00eetrisent les deux domaines, un formidable \u00ab\u00a0coup double\u00a0\u00bb servant \u00e0 convaincre d\u2019avantage. Logique, \u00e0 premi\u00e8re vue, en particulier pour Tesla qui est par d\u00e9finition un constructeur de v\u00e9hicules 100% \u00e9lectriques et l\u2019un des pionniers de la conduite autonome. Pourtant, s\u2019il l\u2019on r\u00e9fl\u00e9chit un peu plus loin, qui produit l\u2019\u00e9nergie que l\u2019on \u00e9conomise en ne conduisant pas\u00a0? Celui qui, berc\u00e9 d\u2019un \u00e9lan de lucidit\u00e9, se pose cette question, y conclut rapidement\u00a0: conduite autonome et conduite \u00e9cologique ne r\u00e9pondent pas \u00e0 la m\u00eame philosophie. De toute \u00e9vidence, peu importe le type de propulsion, la voiture \u00ab\u00a0la plus \u00e9cologique possible\u00a0\u00bb ne devrait comporter ni capteurs, ni cam\u00e9ras, ni connexion \u00e0 Internet, ni moteur permettant de tourner les roues sans notre action, ni portes \u00e9lectriques, etc. Car toutes ces fonctionnalit\u00e9s consomment in\u00e9vitablement de l\u2019\u00e9nergie, m\u00eame si celle-ci peut sembler faible par rapport \u00e0 l\u2019\u00e9nergie n\u00e9cessaire \u00e0 d\u00e9placer le v\u00e9hicule. Il y a donc une contradiction entre la volont\u00e9 de \u00ab\u00a0faire le mieux possible pour la plan\u00e8te\u00a0\u00bb et celle de vouloir rendre la conduite \u00ab\u00a0la plus autonome possible\u00a0\u00bb.<\/p>\n <\/p>\n <\/p>\n Avec l\u2019apparition du \u00ab\u00a0Deep Learning\u00a0\u00bb, les progr\u00e8s de l\u2019intelligence artificielle ne sont plus \u00e0 prouver. Connect\u00e9e en permanence au r\u00e9seau, chaque machine devient elle-m\u00eame une neurone d\u2019un r\u00e9seau plan\u00e9taire.
