Sa bo\u00eete DSG – l’unique transmission disponible – n’est pourvue que de 6 rapports, contre 7 pour sa cousine germanique. A noter que contrairement \u00e0 cette derni\u00e8re, la Seat Leon Cupra ST est disponible aussi en deux roues motrices (traction), en bo\u00eete manuelle ou DSG, \u00e0 partir de CHF 41’950.-, contre CHF 45’550.- pour notre mod\u00e8le d’essai \u00e0 quatre roues motrices muni de la bo\u00eete DSG.<\/p>\n

Rapidement, son design fait l’unanimit\u00e9 dans mon entourage, beaucoup de personnes se voyant volontiers \u00e0 son volant. Les lignes de caisse tendues et l’\u00e9clairage \u00e0 led apportent une touche tr\u00e8s moderne. Les jantes en 19 pouces m\u00e9riteraient juste un d\u00e9port plus important pour mieux remplir les larges passages de roue. Je n’aurai certainement pas choisi la couleur Rouge D\u00e9sire, mais je dois avouer qu’elle lui sied bien.<\/p>\n

Les panneaux de portes re\u00e7oivent une discr\u00e8te rang\u00e9e de LED, dont la couleur peut-\u00eatre personnalis\u00e9e. La prise en main du volant \u00e0 m\u00e9plat, muni de palettes, est excellente. Le tableau de bord re\u00e7oit dans sa partie sup\u00e9rieure un \u00e9cran tactile de 8 pouces regroupant tout le multim\u00e9dia. Il permettra de configurer \u00e0 votre go\u00fbt les nombreux param\u00e8tres de la voiture, d’afficher la navigation et la cam\u00e9ra de recul. L’affichage du mode sport affiche des manom\u00e8tres qui permettent de surveiller la pression de suralimentation, les temp\u00e9ratures d’huile ainsi que le compteur de G. J’ai beaucoup appr\u00e9ci\u00e9 la qualit\u00e9 du son distill\u00e9e par les 10 haut-parleurs et le subwoofer du Seat Sound System (310.-). Je regrette par contre l’absence d\u2019un v\u00e9ritable frein \u00e0 main, remplac\u00e9 par un bouton. Dans l’ensemble, l’excentricit\u00e9 espagnole a laiss\u00e9 place \u00e0 la rigueur germanique.<\/p>\n

Dans les options que je d\u00e9couvre pour la premi\u00e8re fois, une base de recharge sans fil pour t\u00e9l\u00e9phone portable compatible est pr\u00e9sente (CHF 250.-). Il est ensuite possible de le jumeler par Bluetooth, ou alors avec le c\u00e2ble pour profiter de toutes les fonctionnalit\u00e9s possibles offertes par Apple CarPlay ou Android Auto par exemple.<\/p>\n

Prenons maintenant la route. D\u00e9marrage par le biais du bouton plac\u00e9 vers le levier de vitesse (Syst\u00e8me sans cl\u00e9 \u00e0 CHF 400.-). Premi\u00e8re constatation, le son d\u00e9livr\u00e9 par les 2 sorties d’\u00e9chappement ne va pas r\u00e9veiller le voisinage… Mode Cupra s\u00e9lectionn\u00e9, je prends la route. M\u00eame constat qu’avec la Golf R, le bruit moteur artificiel distill\u00e9 par le Sound Aktor n’est vraiment pas une r\u00e9ussite. J’en viendrai presque \u00e0 envier les bruitages fantaisistes propos\u00e9s par le R-Sound Effect de Renault ! Heureusement, les qualit\u00e9s dynamiques me font vite oublier ce petit d\u00e9sagr\u00e9ment. La pouss\u00e9e est franche, et quasi ininterrompue gr\u00e2ce \u00e0 la bo\u00eete \u00e0 double-embrayage. Les premiers virages se profilent. Ils me permettent de constater que le ch\u00e2ssis n’est pas d\u00e9pass\u00e9 par la puissance du bloc 2.0L turbo. L’amortissement pilot\u00e9 est excellent. La prise de roulis est contenue, malgr\u00e9 les pr\u00e8s de 1\u2019500 kg de la b\u00eate, et c\u2019est bien les pneus qui vont montrer les premi\u00e8res limites.<\/p>\n

\nLa route se poursuit avec des virages en lacets. La possibilit\u00e9 de d\u00e9connecter enti\u00e8rement les aides \u00e0 la conduite me permet de profiter enti\u00e8rement de la transmission int\u00e9grale. D\u00e8s que l’avant perd de la motricit\u00e9, le syst\u00e8me Haldex fait passer la Leon d’une traction en une quatre roues motrices redoutable. L’arri\u00e8re enroule, et permet de sortir vraiment fort des \u00e9pingles. Au niveau du freinage, pas de mauvaise surprise : le mordant et l’endurance n\u2019ont pas \u00e9t\u00e9 pris en d\u00e9faut lors de mon essai. Pour ceux qui d\u00e9sireraient se rendre sur circuit, le Pack Performance Plus, avec des freins Brembo 4 pistons et des gommes Michelin Pilot Sport Cup2, est disponible au tarif de CHF 4’130.-. Ce choix impose par contre les jantes en 19 pouces minimum, qui peut se r\u00e9v\u00e9ler \u00eatre un inconv\u00e9nient dans le choix de roues d’hiver.<\/p>\n

Le hasard du calendrier fait qu\u2019au milieu de mon essai, je dois me rendre au Circuit de l’Anneau du Rhin pour l’essai de sa concurrente, la nouvelle VW Golf R<\/a>. Afin de profiter au mieux du trajet, je s\u00e9lectionne le mode confort. Et l\u00e0, je d\u00e9couvre une nouvelle voiture, apte \u00e0 avaler de longues distances sur l\u2019autoroute. L’amortissement est beaucoup plus souple, les changements de rapports se font plus bas dans les tours, et le Sound Actor est mis au repos. Le pack de syst\u00e8mes d’assistance au conducteur (CJF 820.-) rend la conduite tr\u00e8s agr\u00e9able. Gr\u00e2ce au radar, la distance par rapport au v\u00e9hicule nous pr\u00e9c\u00e9dant est automatiquement maintenue. Et le Line Assist nous maintient dans la voie de circulation, syst\u00e8me assez d\u00e9routant au d\u00e9but. Il ne faut maintenant plus oublier le clignotant pour pouvoir changer de ligne sans devoir “forcer” le volant. Et comme si \u00e7a ne suffisait pas, la reconnaissance des panneaux de signalisation indique en permanence dans le cadrant la vitesse maximale autoris\u00e9e. <\/p>\n

Les 216 km qui me s\u00e9parent de B\u00e2le m’ont fait consommer une moyenne de 7,9 l\/100km. Cette valeur a pris l’ascenseur sur la courte portion d’autoroute allemande illimit\u00e9e, qui m’a permis d’appr\u00e9cier la tenue de cap \u00e0 haute vitesse sans risquer la prison ! La consommation moyenne sur l’ensemble du test se monte \u00e0 9,7 l\/100km ; un score raisonnable au vue des performances et du poids de l’engin, et que l\u2019on doit principalement \u00e0 la distribution intelligente du couple du syst\u00e8me Haldex (le 100% du couple \u00e9tant envoy\u00e9 aux roues avant par d\u00e9faut). La VW Golf R s\u2019en sortirait-elle encore mieux sur l\u2019autoroute gr\u00e2ce \u00e0 son 7\u00e8me rapport ?
