Seul constructeur japonais \u00e0 avoir remport\u00e9 les 24 Heures du Mans \u2013 c\u2019\u00e9tait en 1991 avec un proto 787B \u00e0 moteur rotatif \u2013, Mazda a toujours eu, au cours de ces 50 derni\u00e8res ann\u00e9es, plusieurs voitures sportives \u00e0 son catalogue. La derni\u00e8re en date est la MX-5 RF que Sport-Auto.ch a essay\u00e9e dans sa version la plus puissante, celle de 160ch.<\/strong><\/p>\n

Mazda en a fait du chemin depuis la sortie, il y a exactement 50 ans, de la Cosmo Sport 110S. Celle-ci n\u2019a pas seulement \u00e9t\u00e9 le premier mod\u00e8le sportif du constructeur japonais mais \u00e9galement le premier \u00e0 \u00eatre \u00e9quip\u00e9 d\u2019un moteur rotatif. Lanc\u00e9e en 1967, la Cosmo Sport a co\u00efncid\u00e9 avec le d\u00e9but la m\u00eame ann\u00e9e d\u2019un programme d\u2019exportations \u00e0 grande \u00e9chelle de Mazda en Europe. Le pilote suisse Jo Siffert avait d\u2019ailleurs une telle Cosmo Sport dans son commerce de voitures de Villars-sur-Gl\u00e2ne. Elle \u00e9tait expos\u00e9e au milieu de Ferrari, Maserati et autres Jaguar.<\/p>\n

Aujourd\u2019hui, le mod\u00e8le sportif de Mazda est le roadster MX-5 dont plusieurs \u00e9l\u00e9ments stylistiques \u00e9voquent la Jaguar F-Type. Cela est surtout vrai pour la version MX-5 Roadster<\/a> que nous avions essay\u00e9e en 2015 sur le circuit de l\u2019Anneau du Rhin<\/a>. La version RF qui nous concerne aujourd\u2019hui \u00e9voque plut\u00f4t les anciennes Chevrolet Corvette, celles de la 3\u00e8me g\u00e9n\u00e9ration produite de 1968 \u00e0 1982. Ses deux lettres RF signifient \u00ab retractable fastback \u00bb, \u00e0 savoir un arri\u00e8re profil\u00e9 r\u00e9tractable, et cela est bel et bien le cas. Dans la MX-5 RF, ce n\u2019est pas seulement le toit qui est r\u00e9tractable, en 13 secondes et jusqu\u2019\u00e0 une vitesse de 10 km\/h, mais bien toute la partie arri\u00e8re qui s\u2019ouvre afin d\u2019y accueillir le toit dans un ballet m\u00e9canique qui est un vrai plaisir pour les yeux. \nLa bo\u00eete manuelle \u00e0 six rapports est en effet rapide, pr\u00e9cise et bien \u00e9tag\u00e9e alors que le moteur, souple et coupleux, autorise des reprises vigoureuses d\u00e9j\u00e0 \u00e0 bas r\u00e9gime. Par contre, d\u00e8s que l\u2019on monte dans les tours, il ne se passe plus grand-chose. Il est donc inutile de s\u2019approcher de la zone rouge, le bloc donnant le meilleur de lui-m\u00eame \u00e0 mi-r\u00e9gimes. Inutile aussi d\u2019attaquer \u00e0 outrance, la prise de roulis m\u2019en a rapidement dissuad\u00e9. Le pompage des suspensions en acc\u00e9l\u00e9rant et en rel\u00e2chant les gaz en virage occasionne un comportement joueur faisant passer facilement l\u2019auto du sous- au survirage. Autrement dit, on peut g\u00e9rer le rayon de braquage en fonction des gaz, mais le trait est un peu trop forc\u00e9 et peut surprendre. La Mazda MX-5 RF n\u2019est en effet pas une sportive pure et dure, mais plut\u00f4t une propulsion susceptible de distiller du plaisir sans pour autant devoir rouler \u00e0 la limite. Le syst\u00e8me Mazda est compos\u00e9 d\u2019un alternateur \u00e0 voltage variable, du super-condensateur pr\u00e9c\u00e9demment \u00e9voqu\u00e9 et d\u2019un transformateur \u00e9lectrique charg\u00e9 de redistribuer le courant sur le r\u00e9seau de bord. Au freinage, le super-condensateur peut donc alimenter le r\u00e9seau de bord et recharger la batterie sans intervention de l\u2019alternateur, ce qui permet d\u2019\u00e9conomiser jusqu\u2019\u00e0 10% de carburant, selon Mazda.<\/p>\n

\nParmi les autres raffinements techniques, on rel\u00e8vera le syst\u00e8me de surveillance des angles morts BSM, le syst\u00e8me d\u2019alerte de franchissement involontaire de ligne et la gestion automatique des feux de route HBC. Ce dernier dispositif, cens\u00e9 commuter automatiquement des feux de route aux feux de croisement afin de ne pas aveugler les autres conducteurs ne nous a cependant pas convaincu. Il a en effet souvent pris des panneaux routiers r\u00e9fl\u00e9chissant pour des voitures venant en sens inverse et nous a ainsi priv\u00e9 de feux de route dont nous avions besoin en conduite nocturne. Il a par ailleurs souvent repass\u00e9 en feux de route avec un retard assez long. Le mieux, dans ce cas, est vraiment l\u2019ennemi du bien. L\u2019\u00e9clairage directionnel AFS nous a en revanche pleinement convaincu.<\/p>\n

Il en va de m\u00eame pour la finition de l\u2019habitacle et la qualit\u00e9 du syst\u00e8me audio. Celui de notre voiture d\u2019essai, une version \u00ab Revolution \u00bb mieux \u00e9quip\u00e9e que la version \u00ab Ambition \u00bb, disposait ainsi de neuf haut-parleurs Bose premium dont deux plac\u00e9s strat\u00e9giquement dans chacun des appuie-t\u00eates. Ce n\u2019est pas un luxe car les bruits a\u00e9rodynamiques sont importants quand on roule ouvert \u00e0 partir de 80 km\/h. Il est ainsi fortement conseill\u00e9 de refermer le toit d\u00e8s 100 km\/h. La position ouverte convient en revanche \u00e0 merveille sur nos routes de montagne. Elle permet en effet d\u2019admirer les diff\u00e9rents sommets enneig\u00e9s tout en encha\u00eenant les courbes et les virages avec une belle efficacit\u00e9.<\/p>\n
