L\u2019essai d\u2019un Range Rover dans Sport-Auto.ch\u00a0? Oui, vous avez bien lu\u00a0! Il ne s\u2019agit toutefois pas de n\u2019importe quel Range, mais bien du plus puissant et du plus sportif jamais construit jusqu\u2019ici\u00a0: le Range Rover Sport SVR qui d\u00e9veloppe 550ch\u00a0!<\/strong><\/p>\n

Si, en pr\u00e9ambule, on peut l\u00e9gitimement se demander quel est l\u2019int\u00e9r\u00eat d\u2019installer dans un SUV un moteur de 550 ch, en l\u2019occurrence celui qui propulse \u00e9galement la Jaguar F-Type R, la r\u00e9ponse est relativement simple. Le principal int\u00e9r\u00eat d\u2019une telle d\u00e9marche consiste \u00e0 r\u00e9pondre \u00e0 la demande d\u2019une client\u00e8le qui, si le Range Rover Sport SVR n\u2019existait pas, se tournerait vraisemblablement vers des SUV survitamin\u00e9s tels que le Porsche Cayenne Turbo S (570 ch, d\u00e8s CHF 208’000.-) ou le Mercedes AMG GLE 63 (557 ch, d\u00e8s CHF 141’000.-). Cela pour ne citer que deux exemples dans cette cat\u00e9gorie en pleine expansion qui comprend \u00e9galement le Bentley Bentayga et dans, une moindre mesure, le Jaguar F-Pace et le Maserati Levante S<\/a> que nous avions essay\u00e9 l\u2019an pass\u00e9.<\/p>\n

On pr\u00e9cisera par ailleurs que les SUV s\u2019av\u00e8rent tr\u00e8s lucratifs pour les marques qui les produisent. Ils ne sont pas \u00e9trangers au fait que le groupe Jaguar Land Rover est, depuis 2015, le constructeur le plus rentable du monde devant Porsche, dont la\u00a0part importante des b\u00e9n\u00e9fices n\u2019est pas r\u00e9alis\u00e9e avec les mod\u00e8les 911<\/a> et 718<\/a>, mais bien avec les Cayenne et Macan.<\/p>\n

On a beau appr\u00e9cier les moteurs \u00ab tr\u00e8s sonores \u00bb, on aimerait toutefois que ce soit le conducteur qui choisisse quand les vocalises du huit cylindres doivent se manifester. Or ce n\u2019est pas possible au d\u00e9marrage. Si cela ne d\u00e9rangera pas beaucoup de monde pendant la journ\u00e9e, il en ira diff\u00e9remment \u00e0 2h ou 5h du matin. Cela est d\u2019autant plus regrettable que notre Range \u00e9tait \u00e9quip\u00e9 du syst\u00e8me silencieux de fermeture des porti\u00e8res qui \u00e9vite de les claquer lorsqu\u2019on les referme. Heureusement, mis \u00e0 part \u00e0 la mise en marche, le Range Rover Sport SVR sait se faire tr\u00e8s discret. Gr\u00e2ce \u00e0 sa bo\u00eete automatique ZF \u00e0 8 huit rapports, le moteur V8 est \u00e0 peine audible si l\u2019on respecte les limitations de vitesse sur autoroute. A 120 km\/h, le compte-tours indique \u00e0 peine quelque 2\u2019000 trs\/min. Dans ces conditions, la consommation s\u2019av\u00e8re acceptable pour un engin qui d\u00e9veloppe 550 ch et qui p\u00e8se 2\u2019330 kg. Nous avons ainsi enregistr\u00e9 une consommation de 12,2 l\/100 km sur un tron\u00e7on de 120 km comprenant 80 km d\u2019autoroute, 20 km de circulation en ville et 20 km de routes de campagne.<\/p>\n

La consommation est en revanche mont\u00e9e \u00e0 16,8 l\/100 km lors du franchissement successif des cols du Jaun, du Pillon et des Mosses o\u00f9 nous avons altern\u00e9 une conduite tranquille \u00e0 une conduite tr\u00e8s sportive. Cette derni\u00e8re nous a permis de v\u00e9rifier le bon fonctionnement du syst\u00e8me SVR Dynamic Response que l\u2019on s\u00e9lectionne sur la console m\u00e9diane.<\/p>\n

Ce syst\u00e8me travaille de concert avec les amortisseurs pneumatiques et la suspension variable Adaptive Dynamics. Il a \u00e9t\u00e9 param\u00e9tr\u00e9 pour exploiter au mieux les hautes performances de notre Range qui a m\u00eame eu l\u2019honneur de tourner dans un James Bond. Le SVR est tellement efficace sur asphalte que les ing\u00e9nieurs de Land Rover ont d\u00fb enti\u00e8rement r\u00e9\u00e9talonner les courbes du mode Dynamic Response que l\u2019on trouve dans les Range Rover moins puissants que notre mod\u00e8le.<\/p>\n

\nDu coup, le SVR vire plus \u00e0 plat et plus rapidement que tout autre Ranger Rover. Le roulis est certes sup\u00e9rieur \u00e0 celui d\u2019un Cayenne Turbo S, il permet n\u00e9anmoins d\u2019escalader nos diff\u00e9rents cols d\u2019une fa\u00e7on \u00e0 la fois tr\u00e8s rapide, s\u00fbre et efficace. Malgr\u00e9 plusieurs freinages appuy\u00e9s, les freins Brembo n\u2019ont jamais \u00e9t\u00e9 pris en d\u00e9faut et, une fois la touche \u00ab \u00e9chappement sport\u00a0\u00bb enfonc\u00e9e, la discr\u00e9tion pr\u00e9c\u00e9demment appr\u00e9ci\u00e9e sur autoroute n\u2019est plus qu\u2019un lointain souvenir. La symphonie du V8 qui r\u00e9sonnait d\u2019une montagne \u00e0 l\u2019autre restera incontestablement un bon souvenir de notre essai de ce v\u00e9hicule hors norme.<\/p>\n

Cela a pour avantage \u2013 contrairement \u00e0 la plupart des mod\u00e8les dot\u00e9s d\u2019un turbocompresseur \u2013 de n’engendrer aucun temps de r\u00e9ponse lors de l\u2019appui sur les gaz, et ce m\u00eame \u00e0 bas r\u00e9gimes, o\u00f9 le couple est omnipr\u00e9sent. La cavalerie est donc pr\u00eate \u00e0 bondir imm\u00e9diatement, ce qui ajoute \u00e0 la fois sportivit\u00e9 et s\u00e9curit\u00e9 lors des d\u00e9passements. La bo\u00eete automatique ZF est aussi une r\u00e9ussite et souligne les progr\u00e8s r\u00e9alis\u00e9s dans ce domaine, puisque rappelons-le, il ne s\u2019agit pas d\u2019une bo\u00eete s\u00e9quentielle \u00e0 double embrayage.<\/p>\n

Sachez enfin que le Range Rover Sport SVR peut ais\u00e9ment s\u2019aventurer hors des sentiers battus.
