Le constructeur \u00e0 l\u2019\u00e9toile a le vent en poupe. Pour la sixi\u00e8me ann\u00e9e cons\u00e9cutive, il a enregistr\u00e9 en 2016 un nouveau record de ventes en \u00e9coulant plus de 2 millions de voitures. Pour Dieter Zetsche, pr\u00e9sident du directoire de Daimler, ce nouveau record n\u2019est pas \u00e9tranger au succ\u00e8s rencontr\u00e9 depuis 2012 par la nouvelle gamme compacte de la marque qui comprend notamment la Classe A, la GLA, la CLA et la CLA Shooting Brake, synonymes d\u2019\u00abinnovation et de plaisir de conduire\u00bb. Et \u00e0 propos de plaisir de conduire, Sport-Auto.ch a pu essayer ces quatre mod\u00e8les dans leur version la plus sportive, celle estampill\u00e9e AMG qui d\u00e9veloppe 381 ch et qui dispose du moteur quatre cylindres le plus puissant du march\u00e9. Cet essai s\u2019est d\u00e9roul\u00e9 en Hongrie, pays o\u00f9 sont assembl\u00e9es aussi bien les CLA que les CLA Shooting Brake (variante break de la berline CLA). A peine arriv\u00e9 \u00e0 l\u2019a\u00e9roport de Budapest, on m\u2019a remis les cl\u00e9s d\u2019une AMG CLA 45 4MATIC.<\/p>\n

A noter que l\u2019appellation 4MATIC d\u00e9signe le syst\u00e8me de traction int\u00e9grale d\u00e9velopp\u00e9 par Mercedes qui \u00e9quipe les mod\u00e8les AMG de la gamme compacte mais \u00e9galement plusieurs dizaines de mod\u00e8les Mercedes. Avec les 381ch revendiqu\u00e9s et l\u2019avalanche de couple (475 Nm), on va en avoir besoin ! Cette berline de taille moyenne aux lignes sculpturales est particuli\u00e8rement s\u00e9duisante avec sa couleur gris m\u00e9tallis\u00e9 qui n\u2019est pas sans rappeler celle des F1 avec lesquelles Mercedes a remport\u00e9 les trois derniers championnats du monde avec Lewis Hamilton (2014 et 2015) et Nico Rosberg (2016). Ces deux pilotes se sont impos\u00e9s en 2016 dans 19 des 21 courses de la saison et ont obtenu huit doubl\u00e9s, dont celui sign\u00e9 au Grand Prix de Hongrie qui avait permis \u00e0 Hamilton de s\u2019emparer pour la premi\u00e8re fois de la saison du commandement du championnat du monde. Et c\u2019est justement sur le circuit du Hungaroring que va se d\u00e9rouler la suite de cet essai ! D\u00e8s mon arriv\u00e9e, j\u2019ai l\u2019occasion d\u2019\u00e9changer l\u2019AMG CLA 45 pour une AMG Classe A 45 dans les paddocks. C\u2019est parti pour quelques tours de piste !<\/p>\n

C\u2019est en effet uniquement sur circuit que l\u2019on peut rouler \u00e0 fond en toute l\u00e9galit\u00e9 et v\u00e9rifier ainsi pleinement les performances de tr\u00e8s haut niveau qui font, depuis exactement 50 ans, la r\u00e9putation des mod\u00e8les AMG. En ce qui concerne l\u2019AMG Classe A 45, sachez qu\u2019elle acc\u00e9l\u00e8re de 0 \u00e0 100 km\/h en seulement 4,2 secondes et qu\u2019elle atteint 250 km\/h (limit\u00e9e) en vitesse de pointe. Sur le Hungaroring, circuit tr\u00e8s technique comportant de nombreux virages et une ligne droite de 800 m, il ne m\u2019a pas \u00e9t\u00e9 possible de d\u00e9passer les 210 km\/h, mais cela a \u00e9t\u00e9 largement suffisant pour go\u00fbter au \u00abplaisir de conduire\u00bb \u00e9voqu\u00e9 par Dieter Zetsche au d\u00e9but de cet article.<\/p>\n

\n\u00abMa\u00bb AMG Classe A 45 \u00e9quip\u00e9e du pack AMG Dynamic Plus s\u2019est av\u00e9r\u00e9e particuli\u00e8rement efficace en sortie de courbe gr\u00e2ce au diff\u00e9rentiel autobloquant du pont avant. Les quatre roues motrices, dont la r\u00e9partition du couple varie en fonction des conditions d\u2019adh\u00e9rence, assurent une motricit\u00e9 sans faille et pas seulement en sortie de virage\u00a0! Avec le mode de conduite \u00abRace\u00bb, la r\u00e9ponse du moteur turbo s\u2019est av\u00e9r\u00e9e encore plus spontan\u00e9e qu\u2019en mode Sport+.<\/p>\n

Le grand patron de Mercedes a par ailleurs qualifi\u00e9 les mod\u00e8les AMG 45 d\u2019\u00abagiles et s\u00fbres sur route, ainsi que hautement dynamiques sur circuit et polyvalentes dans la conduite de tous les jours\u00bb. Il s\u2019agit l\u00e0 de qualificatifs qui ne sont gu\u00e8re usurp\u00e9s. Les courbes des routes vallonn\u00e9es qui permettent d\u2019arriver au circuit du Hungaroring sont en effet n\u00e9goci\u00e9es avec une telle agilit\u00e9 que l\u2019on pourrait penser que la voiture est nettement plus l\u00e9g\u00e8re que les 1\u2019500 kg annonc\u00e9s par le constructeur. Quant \u00e0 la s\u00e9curit\u00e9, on rel\u00e8vera que les freins n\u2019ont montr\u00e9 aucun signe de faiblesse, m\u00eame lorsqu\u2019ils ont \u00e9t\u00e9 soumis \u00e0 rude \u00e9preuve sur circuit.<\/p>\n

Le caract\u00e8re dynamique et sportif de la Classe A se retrouve \u00e9galement dans l\u2019habitacle. Pour s\u2019adapter au mieux \u00e0 la taille des personnes, les si\u00e8ges sport sont \u00e9quip\u00e9s de s\u00e9rie d\u2019un r\u00e9glage de la profondeur d\u2019assise, ce qui a pour effet d\u2019augmenter ou diminuer la dimension utile du dossier. La couronne du volant, rev\u00eatue de cuir perfor\u00e9 dans la zone d\u2019appui, dispose de palettes permettant de passer manuellement les sept rapports de la bo\u00eete s\u00e9quentielle \u00e0 double embrayage.<\/p>\n

\nQuant au moteur turbo, il r\u00e9pond aux moindres sollicitations sans aucun temps de r\u00e9ponse. Sur route, il se distingue par d\u2019excellentes reprises et une sonorit\u00e9 extraordinaire. Le syst\u00e8me d\u2019\u00e9chappement sport optionnel dispose en effet de s\u00e9rie d\u2019un volet d\u2019\u00e9chappement \u00e0 pilotage automatis\u00e9. En fonction du style de conduite, le son est modul\u00e9 entre discret et \u00e9clatant. Si vous souhaitez b\u00e9n\u00e9ficier d\u2019une ambiance de course, s\u00e9lectionnez le syst\u00e8me d\u2019\u00e9chappement \u00abAMG Performance\u00bb modifi\u00e9. Sur la simple pression d\u2019un bouton, vous b\u00e9n\u00e9ficiez d\u2019un son similaire particuli\u00e8rement rageur. A plusieurs reprises, j\u2019ai eu l\u2019impression de conduire non pas une voiture \u00e0 quatre cylindres, mais bien \u00e0 huit cylindres ! De toute \u00e9vidence, les ing\u00e9nieurs acousticiens ont accompli un excellent travail.<\/p>\n

L\u2019essai sur piste est termin\u00e9 et c\u2019est avec regret que j\u2019ai \u00e9chang\u00e9 l\u2019AMG Classe A 45 contre une AMG CLA 45 Shooting Brake pour me rendre du circuit jusqu\u2019au centre de Budapest. Visuellement, il ne fait aucun doute que ce break revendique la m\u00eame sportivit\u00e9 que la berline, avec une ligne de toit redescendant tr\u00e8s t\u00f4t. Une belle r\u00e9ussite stylistique et probablement l\u2019un des breaks les plus s\u00e9duisants du march\u00e9 ! Pour ce trajet, j\u2019ai opt\u00e9 pour le mode de conduite \u00abConfort\u00bb ax\u00e9 sur le confort et l\u2019optimisation de la consommation. Il va de pair avec un moteur qui n\u2019\u00e9met plus qu\u2019une sonorit\u00e9 discr\u00e8te et avec des changements de rapports qui s\u2019effectuent tout en douceur. La fonction \u00abroue libre\u00bb aide \u00e0 \u00e9conomiser le carburant d\u00e8s que le conducteur l\u00e8ve le pied de l\u2019acc\u00e9l\u00e9rateur dans une plage comprise entre 60 et 160 km\/h. Le programme \u00abConfort\u00bb int\u00e8gre \u00e9galement la fonction Stop\/Start ECO qui coupe le moteur lors des arr\u00eats.<\/p>\n

\nDieter Zetsche n\u2019avait donc gu\u00e8re menti en soulignant \u00able caract\u00e8re polyvalent\u00bb des AMG, capables d\u2019\u00eatre men\u00e9es \u00e0 la baguette sur circuit et dociles comme un agneau dans la circulation urbaine. Et cette polyvalence est peut-\u00eatre encore plus marqu\u00e9e sur l\u2019AMG GLA 45. Gr\u00e2ce \u00e0 sa garde au sol plus \u00e9lev\u00e9e, ce \u00abcross-over\u00bb est en effet \u00e9galement en mesure de s\u2019aventurer hors des sentiers battus. J\u2019ai d\u2019ailleurs pu le v\u00e9rifier en me faufilant dans les collines sablonneuses du circuit du Hungaroring, des collines qui, lors des courses, sont tout autant de tribunes naturelles pour les spectateurs. A v\u00e9rifier lors du prochain Grand Prix de Hongrie, le 30 juillet, ou lors des deux manches du DTM agend\u00e9es les 17 et 18 juin. Ces deux derni\u00e8res courses verront notamment \u00e0 l\u2019\u0153uvre le Genevois Edoardo Mortara qui, apr\u00e8s avoir longtemps pilot\u00e9 pour Audi, a \u00e9t\u00e9 transf\u00e9r\u00e9 cette ann\u00e9e chez Mercedes AMG.
