La marque Cupra va f\u00eater ses 10 ans en 2028 et nous nous retrouvons \u00e0 Spielberg en Autriche pour d\u00e9couvrir sa gamme de mod\u00e8les sportifs, issu d’un riche h\u00e9ritage en sport automobile.<\/span> De la branche Seat Sport, connue notamment par ses succ\u00e8s en rallye dans les ann\u00e9es 1995 avec la Ibiza Kit Car et son jaune p\u00e9tant, en passant par le WTCC, dont Seat a remport\u00e9 deux championnats (2008 et 2009), le patronyme Cupra, d\u00e9sormais transform\u00e9 en marque, a connu un pass\u00e9 glorieux. <\/span>D\u00e9sormais, les couleurs claires et flashy des Leon ont d\u00e9sormais disparu de la palette actuelle, au profit de teintes plus sombres et agressives correspondant aux nouvelles valeurs de la nouvelle marque Cupra. <\/span><\/p>\n

Sur ce s\u00e9rieux terrain de jeu, seuls les mod\u00e8les VZ (comme Veloz) de la gamme entrent dans l’ar\u00e8ne. \u2028La Cupra Leon VZ et son architecture de traction avant nous r\u00e9gale avec sa belle sonorit\u00e9 qui retransmet bien le souffle puissant des turbos du moteur 2.0 l. Notre instructeur autrichien nous montre les bonnes trajectoires de ce circuit exigeant. Au 4\u00e8me virage, point culminant du circuit (744 m), j’ai des flashbacks du c\u00e9l\u00e8bre accrochage entre les deux F1 de Lewis Hamilton et Nico Rosberg en 2016… et surveille donc particuli\u00e8rement bien mes r\u00e9troviseurs. La partie centrale du circuit, avec ses longs virages en appuis contournant l’\u00e9norme taureau du monument Red Bull, met en valeur le bel \u00e9quilibre de la Leon. Celle-ci se place au doigt et \u00e0 l’oeil, m\u00eame au del\u00e0 des 100 km\/h. Apr\u00e8s avoir travers\u00e9 une partie de for\u00eat, on arrive au point le plus bas du circuit (683 m), et son virage en compression… absolument d\u00e9licieux \u00e0 n\u00e9gocier ! Plein gaz ensuite sur derni\u00e8re ligne droite en mont\u00e9e.<\/span><\/p>\n

Voici d\u00e9sormais venu le temps de d\u00e9couvrir la Cupra Formentor VZ5. D\u00e9sormais pr\u00e9sent depuis longtemps dans la gamme en Suisse, ce SUV avec moteur 2.5 l de 5 cylindres r\u00e9apparait sur cette nouvelle g\u00e9n\u00e9ration restyl\u00e9e, apr\u00e8s avoir fait un semblant de r\u00e9v\u00e9rence avec la version BAT, dop\u00e9e \u00e0 450 ch, que nous avions essay\u00e9 en 2024<\/a>. Ici, les 390 ch sont lib\u00e9r\u00e9s sur la piste avec une bande son dont on ne se lassera probablement jamais. Revoil\u00e0 la (courte) ligne droite des stands : 2\u00e8me, 3\u00e8me, 4\u00e8me rapport… et apr\u00e8s avoir atteint les 207 km\/h il est temps de freiner pour n\u00e9gocier le premier virage en mont\u00e9e. Les 5 cylindres sous le capot distillent une m\u00e9lodie inimitable dans l’habitacle et h\u00e9rissent les poils. Bien tenus dans les baquets, on appr\u00e9cie \u00e9galement la pr\u00e9cision de la direction et la consistance de la p\u00e9dale qui ne montre aucun signe de faiblesse. Autre particularit\u00e9 \u00e9tonnante : notre groupe de mod\u00e8les VZ ont un niveau d’acc\u00e9l\u00e9ration relativement similaire en ligne droite. Il faut dire que la Leon et ses 1446 kg, dispose d’un rapport poids\/puissance (4.82 kg\/ ch) presque autant comp\u00e9titif que le Formentor VZ5 et sa transmission 4×4 (4.11 kg \/ ch). Mais voil\u00e0 que ces courtes mais intensives s\u00e9ances, permettant de d\u00e9couvrir les limites de ces v\u00e9hicules de route en toute s\u00e9curit\u00e9, se terminent d\u00e9j\u00e0 sans qu’on ait vu le temps passer. <\/span><\/p>\n

Apr\u00e8s ce galop d’essai haut en sensations, nous \u00e9changeons quelque mots avec le pilote lucernois Freddy Barth, ambassadeur suisse de Cupra pour cette journ\u00e9e. La Seat Leon, il connait ! En effet, il a particip\u00e9 de 2004 \u00e0 2009 \u00e0 la SEAT Leon Supercopa, puis couru dans le championnat WTCC de 2010 \u00e0 2012. Il nous rappelle que la Leon est l’une des rares voitures ayant concouru tant avec motorisation diesel (2007 – 2009), essence (TCR), qu’\u00e9lectrique (Cupra Racing a \u00e9t\u00e9 champion FIA ETCR en 2022). Clairement, la marque inspire respect et les prochaines ann\u00e9es, marqu\u00e9es par leur engagement en Extreme E et Formule E seront \u00e0 suivre de pr\u00eat.<\/span><\/p>\n

Apr\u00e8s ce “Cupra Performance Day” au Red Bull Ring, force est de constater que la jeune marque continue \u00e0 surprendre par sa gamme de voitures au fort caract\u00e8re, et diversifi\u00e9es en mati\u00e8re de technologies. Avec ses mod\u00e8les actuels, Cupra continue \u00e0 proposer de la performance “concr\u00e8te”, celle qui se lit sur les visages et pas uniquement \u00e0 travers les chiffres d’une fiche technique. <\/span><\/p>\n
