En 24 ans et 4 g\u00e9n\u00e9rations, la Renault Clio s\u2019est forg\u00e9 une r\u00e9putation solide parmi les compactes sportives. D\u2019abord en 1993 avec la devenue c\u00e9l\u00e8bre Williams, avant que Renault Sport appose son label sur les g\u00e9n\u00e9rations suivantes.<\/p>\n

En 2013, lors de l\u2019apparition de la Clio IV R.S., Renault a modifi\u00e9 drastiquement la recette de son succ\u00e8s, au b\u00e9n\u00e9fice de la polyvalence et de la modernit\u00e9. Les critiques fusent : fini la carrosserie bodybuild\u00e9e, les freins Brembo et la bo\u00eete manuelle ! La nouvelle bo\u00eete s\u00e9quentielle \u00e0 double embrayage \u00e0 6 rapports est jug\u00e9e lente. Le ch\u00e2ssis est bon mais la direction \u2013 d\u00e9sormais \u00e9lectrique \u2013 ne procure plus le m\u00eame feeling. Le passage au downsizing est \u00e9galement in\u00e9vitable : l\u2019ancien 4 cylindres 2.0L de 200 ch est remplac\u00e9 par un 1.6L turbo de m\u00eame puissance.<\/p>\n

Face aux critiques, Renault ambitionne rapidement de revoir sa copie en am\u00e9liorant la gestion de bo\u00eete. S\u2019en suivit en 2015 une version Trophy survitamin\u00e9e, dont nous vous avions propos\u00e9 un essai au printemps dernier<\/a>. D\u00e9but janvier, nous avons pris les commandes du mill\u00e9sime 2016 de la Clio R.S. Trophy. Alors, grand cru\u00a0?<\/p>\n

Notre exemplaire d\u2019essai se pr\u00e9sente dans le superbe Jaune Sirius (CHF 1’600.-), probablement la couleur qui lui sied le mieux ! Par rapport \u00e0 la Clio R.S. \u00ab normale \u00bb, les jantes passent du 17 au 18 pouces et la pr\u00e9sence du ch\u00e2ssis Cup abaisse la caisse de 20 mm \u00e0 l\u2019avant et 10 mm \u00e0 l\u2019arri\u00e8re. La version Trophy a d\u00e9sormais droit \u00e0 un \u00e9chappement sp\u00e9cifique sign\u00e9 Akrapovic : je me r\u00e9jouis d\u00e9j\u00e0 d\u2019appr\u00e9cier le r\u00e9sultat ! La puissance n\u2019a pas chang\u00e9, il s\u2019agit toujours du 4 cylindres 1.6L turbo d\u00e9veloppant 220 ch, contre 200 ch pour la Clio R.S. normale.<\/p>\n

\nLa principale nouveaut\u00e9 qui concerne toutes les Clio R.S., ce sont les phares avant inf\u00e9rieurs \u00e0 LED en forme de drapeau \u00e0 damier, baptis\u00e9s R.S. Vision. Outre une signature visuelle tr\u00e8s r\u00e9ussie et unique, ces phares ont l\u2019avantage de regrouper les fonctions de projecteurs antibrouillard, \u00e9clairage de l\u2019int\u00e9rieur des virages, feux de position mais \u00e9galement longue port\u00e9e afin d\u2019am\u00e9liorer la vision nocturne.<\/p>\n

A l\u2019int\u00e9rieur, les si\u00e8ges sp\u00e9cifiques Trophy de la version pr\u00e9c\u00e9dente<\/a> ont disparu. Ce n\u2019est pas un mal car ils \u00e9taient peu enveloppants et\u00a0dot\u00e9s d’appuie-t\u00eate fixes. La finition est conforme \u00e0 ce \u00e0 quoi on peut s\u2019attendre sur une compacte de cette cat\u00e9gorie\u00a0: rien ne fait r\u00e9ellement d\u00e9faut, mais rien ne surprend non plus. La sellerie cuir \u00e0 surpiq\u00fbres rouges (CHF 1’200.-) conf\u00e8re \u00e0 l\u2019ensemble un aspect sportif appr\u00e9ciable, et le rev\u00eatement du tableau de bord est d\u00e9sormais mouss\u00e9.<\/p>\n

En milieu urbain, la Clio R.S. Trophy conserve les avantages d\u2019une version conventionnelle. La direction offre une excellente maniabilit\u00e9. Malgr\u00e9 le syst\u00e8me d\u2019amortissement \u00e0 but\u00e9es de compression hydrauliques, cens\u00e9 pr\u00e9server un minimum de confort, il faut composer avec un ch\u00e2ssis ferme qui ne sera pas du go\u00fbt de tous. Il s\u2019agit l\u00e0 du ch\u00e2ssis Cup, qui outre l\u2019abaissement pr\u00e9cit\u00e9, propose un tarage plus dur des ressorts. En mode auto la gestion de la bo\u00eete est bien pens\u00e9e, les \u00e0-coups inexistants et les r\u00e9gimes de changement de vitesse coh\u00e9rents. La consommation relev\u00e9e sur un parcours mixte frise avec les 9 l\/100km.<\/p>\n

\nBien s\u00fbr, c\u2019est le petit bouton “R.S. Drive”\u00a0plac\u00e9 \u00e0 c\u00f4t\u00e9 du frein \u00e0 main \u2013 qui reste au passage un levier traditionnel \u2013 qui nous int\u00e9resse le plus. En mode Sport, la sensibilit\u00e9 des gaz est accrue, la direction se durcit, et le r\u00e9gime des changements de rapport augmente. Peu importe, je vais de toute fa\u00e7on passer en mode manuel\u00a0! Pas de changement ici\u00a0depuis la version pr\u00e9c\u00e9dente, mais il ne fait aucun doute que Renault a bien am\u00e9lior\u00e9 la commande et la gestion de la bo\u00eete\u00a0depuis sa sortie sur les premi\u00e8re Clio IV R.S. en 2013. Les palettes en aluminium, fix\u00e9es sur la colonne de direction, sont excellentes car on peut les atteindre du petit doigt m\u00eame si l\u2019on garde les mains fixes sur le volant. On profite aussi un peu plus de l\u2019\u00e9chappement Akrapovic, notamment lors des changements de rapports o\u00f9 quelques g\u00e9n\u00e9reux claquements se font entendre. Ceci dit, je m\u2019attendais \u00e0 un bruit plus pr\u00e9sent et plus m\u00e9lodieux \u00e0 hauts r\u00e9gimes du fait de la pr\u00e9sence de cet \u00e9chappement.<\/p>\n

En tirant les rapports, je retrouve avec plaisir les prestations du 1.6L turbo, aussi \u00e0 l\u2019aise en reprises qu\u2019en acc\u00e9l\u00e9rations, sans aucune tendance \u00e0 s\u2019essouffler \u00e0 l\u2019approche du rupteur (6’500 trs\/min). Lors des mont\u00e9es en r\u00e9gime, le logo Renault Sport au centre des cadrans passe progressivement du vert \u00e0 l\u2019orange, puis se met \u00e0 clignoter \u00e0 l\u2019approche du rupteur. En mode Race, un bip sonore se fait entendre lorsque le logo clignote et qu\u2019il faut changer de rapport.<\/p>\n

Dans les encha\u00eenements, le ch\u00e2ssis Cup fait merveille, la prise de roulis minime. Le train arri\u00e8re est tr\u00e8s stable et difficile \u00e0 prendre en d\u00e9faut. Alors, trop polic\u00e9e cette Clio R.S. ? Difficile \u00e0 dire, mais elle se veut moins joueuse et moins incisive qu\u2019une 208 GTI par exemple. Le fait qu\u2019elle dispense son conducteur du talon pointe et du travail du poignet droit enl\u00e8ve \u00e9galement un peu de piment \u00e0 sa conduite. Heureusement, la bo\u00eete EDC est bien \u00e9tag\u00e9e : Le rupteur est atteint vers 80 km\/h en 2\u00e8me, ce qui est plaisant pour exploiter la cavalerie sur route ouverte.<\/p>\n

\nEn sortie de courbe, le diff\u00e9rentiel \u00e9lectronique fait bien son job, freinant la roue int\u00e9rieure et l\u2019emp\u00eachant de patiner. Mais il est d\u00e9sactiv\u00e9 en mode Race (tout comme l\u2019ESP). Un choix logique en vue d\u2019une utilisation sur piste o\u00f9 le diff\u00e9rentiel \u00e9lectronique r\u00e9duirait en poudre les plaquettes, mais regrettable\u00a0pour un usage routier sans ESP car le train avant sous-vire rapidement et donc perd en efficacit\u00e9.<\/p>\n
