Dans la s\u00e9rie des plus grands (et plus beaux) cols de Suisse, j\u2019appelle le Sustenpass. Je vous le dit de suite, c\u2019est probablement l\u2019une de mes routes pr\u00e9f\u00e9r\u00e9es tant elle offre de belles sensations de conduite, dans un environnement fantastique, d\u2019une beaut\u00e9 remarquable.<\/p>\n

Pour les amateurs de roadtrips, le Sustenpass fait partie de l\u2019un des tours les plus fameux et les plus extraordinaires du paysage routier alpin. Le triptyque Col de la Furka, Col du Grimsel<\/a> et Col du Susten permet de faire le tour du Glacier du Rh\u00f4ne, l\u00e0 o\u00f9 le Rh\u00f4ne prend sa source. On voyage alors des Canton d\u2019Uri au Canton de Berne en passant par le Canton du Valais. Il est \u00e9galement possible de pousser plus au Sud en empruntant deux cols suppl\u00e9mentaires, le Col du Nufenen<\/a> et la Col du Gothard<\/a> via l\u2019ancienne route pav\u00e9e du Tremola.<\/p>\n

Au d\u00e9part de Wassen, on traverse d\u2019abord des galeries couvertes, parfois courbes, avant de sortir de celles-ci \u00e0 flanc de coteau, dans la for\u00eat uranaise. La route est rapide et le rev\u00eatement impeccable, entre murs de pierre et glissi\u00e8res de s\u00e9curit\u00e9. Plus loin, on traverse quelques hameaux o\u00f9 on aper\u00e7oit parfois du b\u00e9tail. Attention, ici la route est souvent tr\u00e8s sale en raison de la travers\u00e9e des animaux sur la route.<\/p>\n

A mesure qu\u2019on s\u2019enfonce dans la vall\u00e9e du Maiental, le paysage se d\u00e9gage et on d\u00e9couvre des coteaux sauvages, compos\u00e9s essentiellement de verdure et de rochers. A cette altitude, il n\u2019y a plus d\u2019arbres puisque le col culmine \u00e0 2\u2019224 m d\u2019altitude. La route offre une belle visibilit\u00e9 sur les paysages mais aussi sur le parcours routier. Il y a peu de virages \u2018\u00e0 l\u2019aveugle\u2019 et on peut donc rouler en toute d\u00e9contraction, \u00e0 un rythme n\u00e9anmoins soutenu et en toute l\u00e9galit\u00e9. Les courbes rapides s\u2019enchainent, droite-gauche-droite-gauche\u2026 dans des mouvements fluides, on avale les kilom\u00e8tres avec grand plaisir.<\/p>\n

Avant d\u2019arriver au sommet, on traverse encore quelques galeries creus\u00e9es \u00e0 m\u00eame la montagne, puis, lorsque la route redevient plate, on traverse le tunnel situ\u00e9 au sommet qui d\u00e9gage sur une grande place goudronn\u00e9e o\u00f9 la plupart des gens s\u2019arr\u00eatent. Il faut dire que le paysage vaut le d\u00e9placement et une petite pause s\u2019impose ici. Outre l\u2019observation des montages avoisinantes ou encore du lac situ\u00e9 en contrebas, c\u2019est aussi l\u2019occasion de se restaurer au \u2018self service\u2019 ou encore de grimper jusqu\u2019\u00e0 l\u2019hospice situ\u00e9 quelques centaines de m\u00e8tres en amont.<\/p>\n

Les paysages s\u2019illumineront alors de belles teintes chaleureuses et la beaut\u00e9 de l\u2019endroit s\u2019en trouve encore sublim\u00e9e. Quelques photos plus tard, vous entamerez la descente vers Gadmen. La premi\u00e8re partie est tr\u00e8s rapide et, tout en respectant les limitations de vitesse, vous aurez l\u2019opportunit\u00e9 d\u2019observer le paysage et notamment le glacier de Stein (Steingletscher).<\/p>\n

Depuis ici, la descente de la vall\u00e9e du Gadmental devient plus intense. Les courbes s\u2019enchainent, on traverse plusieurs tunnels et les virages vous sautent \u00e0 la figure, avec de magnifiques s\u00e9quences de roulage. Malheureusement, on rencontre r\u00e9guli\u00e8rement des travaux dans cette portion mais le plaisir de rouler ici est presque\u2026 jouissif.<\/p>\n

On arrive ensuite sur une portion rapide avant le village de Gadmen. Puis, on finit la descente jusqu\u2019\u00e0 Innerkirchen pour terminer l\u2019une des routes les plus extraordinaires des Alpes. Ici, on vous recommande de mettre le clignotant \u00e0 gauche pour entamer la mont\u00e9e vers le Col du Grimsel<\/a> et poursuivre votre roadtrip. Si vous voulez prendre le temps, je vous recommande \u00e9galement de pousser un peu plus loin (environ 1.5 km d\u2019Innerkirchen) et de vous arr\u00eater pour d\u00e9couvrir, en pi\u00e9ton cette fois, les belles Gorges de l\u2019Aare.<\/p>\n

Malheureusement pour nous, le col est inaccessible durant une longue p\u00e9riode de l\u2019ann\u00e9e. En effet, il est g\u00e9n\u00e9ralement ferm\u00e9 de novembre \u00e0 juin, pour la p\u00e9riode hivernale. C\u2019est pourquoi de nombreux passionn\u00e9s d\u2019automobile y d\u00e9filent durant les mois d\u2019\u00e9t\u00e9 et c\u2019est pourquoi je vous recommande d\u2019\u00e9viter les p\u00e9riodes les plus charg\u00e9es, entre la fin de matin\u00e9e et de d\u00e9but d\u2019apr\u00e8s-midi.<\/p>\n
