Il y a une dizaine d\u2019ann\u00e9es, la Skoda Octavia RS Combi faisait son apparition pour la premi\u00e8re fois avec une traction int\u00e9grale et motorisation diesel. Cette \u00e9volution a largement contribu\u00e9 \u00e0 son succ\u00e8s, au point d\u2019en faire une r\u00e9f\u00e9rence pour de nombreux Helv\u00e8tes. Ce n\u2019est d\u2019ailleurs pas un hasard si la Skoda Octavia a \u00e9t\u00e9 \u00e9lue \u00ab Voiture pr\u00e9f\u00e9r\u00e9e de Suisse \u00bb en 2021, et si elle a domin\u00e9 les ventes du pays durant quatre ann\u00e9es cons\u00e9cutives. En Suisse romande, sa d\u00e9clinaison sportive \u00ab RS \u00bb incarne depuis longtemps cette voiture qu\u2019on choisit autant par raison que par plaisir : rapide sans frimer, spacieuse, et surtout redoutablement efficace en conditions hivernales.<\/p>\n

C\u2019est justement pour cette raison que j\u2019aborde cet essai avec une pointe de nostalgie. Depuis l\u2019arriv\u00e9e de l\u2019Octavia RS de quatri\u00e8me g\u00e9n\u00e9ration, le choix s\u2019est port\u00e9 sur une motorisation essence, mais la transmission int\u00e9grale a disparu du catalogue, alors m\u00eame qu\u2019elle repr\u00e9sente une \u00e9vidence pour beaucoup d\u2019automobilistes suisses. D\u00e8s lors, une question s\u2019impose : priv\u00e9e de ses quatre roues motrices, l\u2019Octavia RS peut-elle encore revendiquer pleinement son statut ?<\/p>\n

Contrairement \u00e0 la transmission int\u00e9grale, qui a disparu au fil des g\u00e9n\u00e9rations, le design ext\u00e9rieur de la Skoda Octavia RS a tr\u00e8s peu \u00e9volu\u00e9 au fil du temps. Ce l\u00e9ger restylage en est une nouvelle illustration. Les changements sont r\u00e9els, mais discrets : les phares avant adoptent une signature LED affin\u00e9e, la calandre gagne un dessin l\u00e9g\u00e8rement plus anguleux, tandis que les boucliers sp\u00e9cifiques RS sont subtilement redessin\u00e9s, notamment au niveau des prises d\u2019air. Les \u00e9l\u00e9ments noirs brillants : r\u00e9troviseurs, encadrements et diffuseur ainsi que les jantes sp\u00e9cifiques continuent de souligner sa sportivit\u00e9.<\/p>\n

\u00c0 l\u2019arri\u00e8re, l\u2019\u00e9volution est encore plus timide : feux l\u00e9g\u00e8rement retravaill\u00e9s, diffuseur subtilement redessin\u00e9, mais une silhouette strictement identique \u00e0 celle de la g\u00e9n\u00e9ration pr\u00e9c\u00e9dente. Si cette retenue conf\u00e8re \u00e0 l\u2019Octavia RS Combi une \u00e9l\u00e9gance intemporelle et un excellent vieillissement, elle pourra aussi d\u00e9cevoir ceux qui esp\u00e9raient un vrai saut stylistique. \u00c0 force de vouloir rester discr\u00e8te, la RS finit presque par diluer son identit\u00e9 sportive et se confondre avec les versions plus sages.<\/p>\n

Les si\u00e8ges RS offrent un bon maintien lat\u00e9ral, mais apr\u00e8s plusieurs heures au volant, une limite appara\u00eet clairement, du moins pour les conducteurs de grande taille comme moi. Avec mes 1,98 m, l\u2019assise manque de soutien sous les cuisses, et sur les longs trajets, on se surprend \u00e0 chercher un meilleur appui, sans jamais r\u00e9ellement le trouver. Un constat qui ne concernera pas la majorit\u00e9 des conducteurs, d\u2019autant plus que la position de conduite est, par ailleurs, bien \u00e9tudi\u00e9e et facile \u00e0 ajuster. \u00c0 l\u2019arri\u00e8re, l\u2019habitabilit\u00e9 demeure exemplaire et le volume de coffre fait toujours r\u00e9f\u00e9rence (640 \u2013 1700 litres). Malgr\u00e9 son badge RS, l\u2019Octavia Combi conserve une vocation avant tout familiale, avec un \u00e9quilibre assum\u00e9 entre polyvalence et sportivit\u00e9.<\/p>\n

Sous le capot, le 2.0 TSI de 265 ch fait exactement ce qu\u2019on attend de lui. Il se montre disponible d\u00e8s les bas r\u00e9gimes, souple en conduite quotidienne et suffisamment \u00e9nergique lorsque le rythme s\u2019acc\u00e9l\u00e8re. Les relances sont franches, la puissance toujours exploitable, et la bo\u00eete DSG accompagne bien l\u2019ensemble, sans \u00e0-coups ni temps morts notables. Ce moteur s\u00e9duit surtout par son \u00e9quilibre : performant sans exc\u00e8s, efficace sans brutalit\u00e9 et globalement ma\u00eetris\u00e9 c\u00f4t\u00e9 consommation, avec 8,3 l\/100 km mesur\u00e9s lors de notre essai. En revanche, les amateurs de sensations pures resteront peut-\u00eatre sur leur faim, la sonorit\u00e9 restant volontairement discr\u00e8te.<\/p>\n

Notre Octavia RS est \u00e9quip\u00e9e des suspensions pilot\u00e9es DCC (CHF 850.-), qui permettent d\u2019ajuster efficacement le compromis entre confort et dynamisme. En mode Comfort, la RS absorbe tr\u00e8s correctement les irr\u00e9gularit\u00e9s, nous le verrons, y compris sur routes d\u00e9grad\u00e9es. En Sport, le maintien de caisse se raffermit sensiblement, sans jamais devenir excessivement ferme. Le train avant repose sur un diff\u00e9rentiel ouvert assist\u00e9 par un autoblocage \u00e9lectronique (XDS+) et non\u00a0pas d\u2019un autobloquant m\u00e9canique, comme le groupe VW a pu en proposer sur certaines tractions plus radicales.<\/p>\n

C\u2019est en plaine que j\u2019ai d\u2019abord pris la mesure de l\u2019Octavia RS Combi. Sur ces axes roulants, elle se montre imm\u00e9diatement agr\u00e9able, presque \u00e9vidente. Le moteur est souple, la bo\u00eete DSG travaille en douceur et le ch\u00e2ssis inspire confiance. \u00c0 rythme normal, tout est fluide, confortable, rassurant. La RS se conduit sans effort, avec cette impression de ma\u00eetrise tranquille qui fait son charme.<\/p>\n

Les choses deviennent plus int\u00e9ressantes d\u00e8s que la route se resserre et commence \u00e0 serpenter. En direction de la montagne, sur route s\u00e8che, l\u2019Octavia RS d\u00e9voile un bel \u00e9quilibre. La direction est pr\u00e9cise, le train avant accroche bien et le ch\u00e2ssis encaisse le rythme sans broncher. La voiture reste saine, pr\u00e9visible, jamais pi\u00e9geuse. On sent que ce break sportif a \u00e9t\u00e9 con\u00e7u pour avaler ce genre de trac\u00e9s, avec une efficacit\u00e9 qui donne envie d\u2019insister.<\/p>\n

Mais c\u2019est en attaquant les routes valaisannes, sur la rive gauche du Rh\u00f4ne que le tableau commence \u00e0 se fissurer. Sur la route qui conduit aux Mayens de Riddes, le bitume est froid, partiellement \u00e0 l\u2019ombre, et la motricit\u00e9 devient soudain plus discutable. En sortie d\u2019\u00e9pingle, l\u2019avant peine \u00e0 transmettre la puissance, le contr\u00f4le de traction s\u2019active fr\u00e9quemment. Rien de dramatique, mais suffisamment pr\u00e9sent pour entamer la confiance. \u00c0 ce moment-l\u00e0, on se surprend d\u00e9j\u00e0 \u00e0 penser que la transmission int\u00e9grale aurait \u00e9t\u00e9 un pr\u00e9cieux alli\u00e9.<\/p>\n

De retour en pleine, j\u2019attaque l\u2019autre versant, direction Ovronnaz. La route est tr\u00e8s bossel\u00e9e mais, plus expos\u00e9 au soleil, la situation s\u2019am\u00e9liore nettement. L\u2019adh\u00e9rence revient, le rythme peut de nouveau augmenter et l\u2019Octavia RS retrouve son aisance, et moi du plaisir. Sur ce versant plus cl\u00e9ment, elle redevient agr\u00e9able, efficace, presque convaincante, jusqu\u2019au moment d\u2019atteindre la neige.<\/p>\n

L\u00e0, l\u2019exp\u00e9rience se complique nettement, au point de devenir presque d\u00e9sagr\u00e9able. Sur chauss\u00e9e enneig\u00e9e, malgr\u00e9 une monte hivernale, la motricit\u00e9 montre rapidement ses limites. En mont\u00e9e comme en sortie de virage, le train avant patine, cherche son adh\u00e9rence et impose une anticipation constante et une gestion tr\u00e8s mesur\u00e9e de l\u2019acc\u00e9l\u00e9rateur. L\u2019Octavia RS reste exploitable, mais elle ne pardonne pas l\u2019optimisme. Dans ces conditions, l\u2019absence de quatre roues motrices se fait clairement sentir.<\/p>\n

\u00c0 cet instant pr\u00e9cis, le constat est sans appel : sans traction int\u00e9grale, il manque \u00e0 l\u2019Octavia RS Combi un \u00e9l\u00e9ment d\u00e9terminant m\u00eame si elle s\u00e9duit par beau temps. Mais heureusement dans la gamme Octavia, il existe une alternative avec transmission int\u00e9grale : l\u2019Octavia 2.0 TSI de 204 ch. Une version moins puissante, certes d\u00e9pourvue du badge RS et de son ch\u00e2ssis plus aff\u00fbt\u00e9, mais qui conserve l\u2019essentiel pour un usage suisse : la transmission int\u00e9grale. Un choix plus rationnel que passionnel, qui rappelle que sur l\u2019Octavia, le 4×4 existe toujours\u2026 mais plus l\u00e0 o\u00f9 on l\u2019attendait.<\/p>\n

Entre l\u2019attelage de remorque (CHF 1\u2019070.\u2013), le toit panoramique (CHF 1\u2019720.\u2013), les aides \u00e0 la conduite avanc\u00e9es, le syst\u00e8me audio Canton et plusieurs packs, notre mod\u00e8le d\u2019essai atteint CHF 58\u2019720.\u2013. A ce niveau, le rapport prix\/prestation n’est plus exceptionnel. Face \u00e0 elle, la Cupra Leon Sportstourer VZ<\/a>, pour environ CHF 2\u2019000.\u2013 de plus, propose 333 ch, pr\u00e8s de deux secondes de mieux au 0\u2013100 km\/h, et surtout une traction int\u00e9grale. M\u00eame constat face \u00e0 la Volkswagen Golf Variant R, plus ch\u00e8re, mais techniquement plus compl\u00e8te. Dans ce contexte, la RS ne joue plus la carte du \u201cbon plan\u201d, mais celle du compromis.<\/p>\n

L\u2019Octavia RS Combi 2025 demeure une excellente sportive du quotidien, mais elle n\u2019est plus tout \u00e0 fait l\u2019\u00e9vidence qu\u2019elle a longtemps \u00e9t\u00e9 en Suisse. Priv\u00e9e de traction int\u00e9grale, elle perd une part essentielle de ce qui faisait sa force et son identit\u00e9 sur nos routes. Sur le sec, elle convainc par son \u00e9quilibre, son confort et sa polyvalence exceptionnelle. En revanche, d\u00e8s que l\u2019hiver s\u2019invite, ses limites apparaissent plus rapidement qu\u2019auparavant.<\/strong><\/p>\n

La RS reste un choix coh\u00e9rent pour qui privil\u00e9gie la performance raisonnable et l\u2019usage quotidien, mais elle n\u2019est plus le compromis absolu qu\u2019elle incarnait autrefois, m\u00eamem avec un moteur diesl. Une excellente voiture, certes\u2026 mais plus universelle qu\u2019hivernale.<\/strong><\/p>\n
