En vue du 100e anniversaire de la naissance de Jean Tinguely, ce 22 mai, Sport-Auto.ch rend hommage au plus c\u00e9l\u00e8bre des artistes fribourgeois en soulignant les liens \u00e9troits qui l\u2019unissaient \u00e0 l\u2019automobile, \u00e0 la F1 et aux pilotes auxquels il vouait une tr\u00e8s grande admiration. Reportage sur les traces de Jean Tinguely, \u00e0 B\u00e2le, tout d\u2019abord au Mus\u00e9e Tinguely, puis \u00e0 Fribourg, sa ville natale, devant la fontaine Jo Siffert ainsi qu\u2019\u00e0 l\u2019Espace Jean Tinguely-Niki de Saint Phalle et au MAHF, le Mus\u00e9e d’art et d’histoire de Fribourg.<\/strong><\/p>\n

S\u2019il est un artiste dont plusieurs \u0153uvres sont \u00e9troitement li\u00e9es \u00e0 la comp\u00e9tition automobile, c\u2019est bien Jean Tinguely, photographi\u00e9 ci-dessus en compagnie du pilote fribourgeois Jo Siffert qui lui montre une partie de sa collection de voitures anciennes. Originaire de Pont-la-Ville en Gruy\u00e8re, n\u00e9 \u00e0 Fribourg le 22 mai 1925 et d\u00e9c\u00e9d\u00e9 \u00e0 Berne le 30 ao\u00fbt 1991, Jean Tinguely fait actuellement l\u2019objet d\u2019une exposition temporaire particuli\u00e8rement int\u00e9ressante au Mus\u00e9e Tinguely de B\u00e2le. Celle-ci, intitul\u00e9e \u00abLa roue c\u2019est tout!\u00bb, pr\u00e9sente sous un jour nouveau plusieurs de ses \u0153uvres, notamment le triptyque (photo ci-dessus \u00e0 droite) qui rend hommage au pilote su\u00e9dois Joakim Bonnier d\u00e9c\u00e9d\u00e9 le 11 juin 1972 aux 24 Heures du Mans. Evoquer le Mus\u00e9e Tinguely, qui vaut \u00e0 lui seul le d\u00e9placement \u00e0 B\u00e2le, c\u2019est avant tout \u00e9voquer son concepteur, le c\u00e9l\u00e8bre architecte tessinois Mario Botta. Apr\u00e8s la Banque de l\u2019Etat de Fribourg (1981), la Cath\u00e9drale d\u2019Evry (1988) ou encore le Mus\u00e9e d\u2019art moderne de San Francisco (1995), pour ne citer que trois de ses nombreux b\u00e2timents embl\u00e9matiques, Mario Botta a en effet con\u00e7u le Mus\u00e9e Tinguely (1996) de fa\u00e7on \u00e0 ce que ses salles accueillent les machines g\u00e9antes de Jean Tinguely, \u00e0 commencer par \u00abPit-Stop\u00bb, sculpture mobile r\u00e9alis\u00e9e \u00e0 partir de diff\u00e9rents \u00e9l\u00e9ments de deux monoplaces Renault de F1 d\u2019Alain Prost et d’Eddie Cheever, et surtout par la \u00abGrosse M\u00e9ta-Maxi-Maxi-Utopia\u00bb qui mesure 8 m de haut et qui est surmont\u00e9e de la partie avant d\u2019une Porsche 908 pilot\u00e9e autrefois par Jo Siffert.<\/p>\n

La \u00abGrosse M\u00e9ta-Maxi-Maxi-Utopia\u00bb est la plus grande sculpture m\u00e9canique de Jean Tinguely, la seule sur laquelle on puisse marcher! Elle est constitu\u00e9e d\u2019innombrables rouages qui, anim\u00e9s par des moteurs, mettent en mouvement plusieurs roues, dont celle d\u2019une monoplace de F1 de son grand ami, le pilote fribourgeois Jo Siffert.<\/p>\n

Le d\u00e9c\u00e8s de Jim Clark, lors d\u2019une course de F2 sans grande importance, d\u00e9vasta \u00e9galement Jean Tinguely. Il en fut de m\u00eame lorsque Jo Siffert perdit la vie, trois ans plus tard, le 24 octobre 1971 \u00e0 Brands Hatch, lui aussi lors d\u2019une course secondaire, en l\u2019occurrence un grand prix de F1 ne comptant pas pour le championnat du monde de la sp\u00e9cialit\u00e9. A sa m\u00e9moire, Jean Tinguely n\u2019offrit pas seulement la Fontaine \u00abHommage \u00e0 Jo Siffert\u00bb \u00e0 la ville de Fribourg – dont on voit ci-dessus la cath\u00e9drale et la vieille-ville – , il participa \u00e9galement aux comm\u00e9morations du 10e\u00a0anniversaire de la mort du pilote fribourgeois \u00e0 la course de c\u00f4te de St-Ursanne \u2013 Les Rangiers.<\/p>\n

Apr\u00e8s les d\u00e9c\u00e8s de Jim Clark, et surtout ceux de Jo Siffert et de Joakim Bonnier avec lesquels il s\u2019\u00e9tait li\u00e9 d\u2019amiti\u00e9, Jean Tinguely reporta son amour de la F1 sur Jacky Ickx, Clay Regazzoni et Niki Lauda. Ce dernier nous avait confi\u00e9, il y a quelques ann\u00e9es, qu\u2019il conservait, dans son bureau de Vienne, la sculpture que lui avait offerte Jean Tinguely: \u00abIl s\u2019agit d\u2019un pot de fleur surmont\u00e9 d\u2019une plume qu\u2019un petit moteur \u00e9lectrique faisait monter et descendre\u00bb, nous avait d\u00e9taill\u00e9 le triple champion du monde de F1. Niki Lauda vouait une grande admiration \u00e0 Jean Tinguely. Lui, qui avait l\u2019habitude de donner \u00e0 chacun des avions de sa compagnie a\u00e9rienne Lauda Air le nom d\u2019une personnalit\u00e9, par exemple John Lennon, Romy Schneider ou Ayrton Senna, baptisa ainsi un de ses avions \u00abJean Tinguely\u00bb! Relevons \u00e9galement que Jean Tinguely avait offert \u00e0 Jo Siffert un collage (photo ci-dessous). Dans la nouvelle exposition \u00abLa roue c\u2019est tout!\u00bb, le film documentaire \u00abJean Tinguely, le sport automobile ou la passion de l\u2019absurde\u00bb est diffus\u00e9 en permanence. L\u2019artiste fribourgeois y parle de Niki Lauda en de termes \u00e9logieux et tous les passionn\u00e9s de sport automobile le visionneront assur\u00e9ment avec beaucoup d\u2019int\u00e9r\u00eat. Quant \u00e0 la boutique du Mus\u00e9e Tinguely, elle propose un tr\u00e8s large choix de cartes postales, de posters et de livres. Plusieurs d’entre eux \u00e9voquent la F1, \u00e0 commencer par la bande dessin\u00e9e que les auteurs fran\u00e7ais Michel Janvier et Olivier Marin ont consacr\u00e9e \u00e0 Jo Siffert.<\/p>\n

Les B\u00e2lois aiment \u00e0 rappeler que Jean Tinguely, \u00e0 peine quelques semaines apr\u00e8s sa naissance \u00e0 Fribourg, avait rejoint, avec sa m\u00e8re, n\u00e9e Jeanne-Louis Ruffieux, son p\u00e8re Charles Tinguely qui avait trouv\u00e9 du travail \u00e0 B\u00e2le. C\u2019est dans la ville rh\u00e9nane que Jean Tinguely effectue sa scolarit\u00e9 obligatoire avant de commencer un apprentissage de d\u00e9corateur de vitrines aupr\u00e8s du grand magasin Globus, puis de suivre les cours de l\u2019Ecole des arts appliqu\u00e9s.<\/p>\n

Sa volont\u00e9 de percer au niveau international en tant qu\u2019artiste le pousse \u00e0 \u00e9migrer \u00e0 Paris en 1952. Une fois \u00e9tabli dans la capitale fran\u00e7aise, il en profite pour aller assister aux 24 Heures du Mans de 1955, l\u2019\u00e9dition marqu\u00e9e par la collision entre la Mercedes 300 SLR de Pierre Levegh et l\u2019Austin Healey de Lance Macklin qui provoqua la mort de 82 personnes, dont le pilote fran\u00e7ais Pierre Levegh, de son vrai nom Pierre Eug\u00e8ne Alfred Bouillin. Une mort qui frappera par la suite plusieurs pilotes dont Jean Tinguely, grand passionn\u00e9 de sport automobile, \u00e9tait devenu l\u2019ami. On pense en particulier \u00e0 Jo Siffert. C\u2019est entre autres pour se rapprocher du pilote fribourgeois que Jean Tinguely s\u2019\u00e9tablit dans le village de Neyruz, non loin de Fribourg, \u00e0 la fin de l\u2019ann\u00e9e 1968.<\/p>\n

La mort de Jo Siffert lui donne l\u2019occasion de lui rendre hommage en lui d\u00e9diant une fontaine, aux Grands Places, non loin de l\u2019Esplanade Jo-Siffert et de la Place Jean-Tinguely. La Fontaine Jo-Siffert fait partie des passages oblig\u00e9s des visites guid\u00e9es organis\u00e9es par l\u2019Office du tourisme de Fribourg sur le th\u00e8me de Jean Tinguely. Celles-ci se terminent \u00e0 l\u2019Espace Jean Tinguely-Niki de Saint-Phalle o\u00f9 un espace est r\u00e9serv\u00e9 aux sports motoris\u00e9s. On y d\u00e9couvre notamment le side-car de Ren\u00e9 Progin, d\u00e9cor\u00e9 par Jean Tinguely, ainsi que plusieurs photos de Jean Tinguely, au volant notamment de sa Ferrari 250 Lusso, de Jo Siffert et, bien entendu, de Ren\u00e9 Progin. Ce dernier, vice-champion d\u2019Europe de side-car, est m\u00eame devenu, \u00e0 la fin des ann\u00e9es 1980, un des assistants de Jean Tinguely.<\/p>\n

Celui-ci, situ\u00e9 non loin de l\u2019Espace Jean Tinguely-Niki de Saint Phalle et du kiosque tenu autrefois par Marguerite Ragonesi, une des trois s\u0153urs de Jo Siffert, comporte plusieurs \u0153uvres d\u2019art de Jean Tinguely, notamment des affiches et des collages. Le Caf\u00e9 du Gothard, tout comme le restaurant Chez Jeannot \u00e0 B\u00e2le, au sous-sol du Mus\u00e9e Tinguely, permettent de d\u00e9couvrir d\u2019excellentes sp\u00e9cialit\u00e9s r\u00e9gionales tout en contemplant des \u0153uvres de Jean Tinguely, dont, Chez Jeannot, l\u2019affiche du M\u00e9morial Jo-Siffert organis\u00e9 en 1981 dans le cadre de la course de Saint-Ursanne\u00a0\u2013\u00a0Les Rangiers.
