Dans le monde de l\u2019automobile, il existe des histoires qui s\u2019\u00e9crivent, se r\u00e9\u00e9crivent puis se r\u00e9inventent pour faire perdurer les ic\u00f4nes automobiles. Oui, parce que la Ford Mustang est sans doute une ic\u00f4ne du panorama automobile pass\u00e9 et actuel. Depuis 1964, Ford distille des Mustang dans diff\u00e9rentes variantes de carrosserie, du coup\u00e9 au cabriolet en passant par la \u2018Fastback\u2019, et de motorisations, du fameux V8 au \u2018simple 4 cylindres\u2019 en passant par le V6. Bref, l\u2019histoire de la Mustang compte de nombreux \u00e9pisodes (7 g\u00e9n\u00e9rations) \u00e0 succ\u00e8s mais est-ce que le film actuel est toujours \u00e0 la hauteur du mythe ?<\/p>\n
Apr\u00e8s une premi\u00e8re prise de contact<\/a> en mai 2024, nous prenons ici le volant d\u2019une version cabriolet, \u2018Convertible\u2019 pour les intimes, dans sa d\u00e9clinaison GT \u00e0 moteur V8 5.0 de 446 chevaux. Avec sa couleur jaune appel\u00e9e \u2018Yellow Splash Metallic\u2019 (CHF 900.-), la Mustang se distingue par son design plus affirm\u00e9. Ses pare-chocs avant et arri\u00e8re sont plus profil\u00e9s, plus taill\u00e9s, et plus anguleux aussi. On peut toutefois regretter l\u2019ajustement approximatif du capot avant avec le pare-choc, bien visible sur notre mod\u00e8le de couleur claire.<\/p>\n M\u00eame \u00e9teints, les phares avant laissent penser que trois yeux de chaque c\u00f4t\u00e9 vous observent. Le tout constitue un ensemble plut\u00f4t massif et volumineux, en accord avec sa vocation de \u2018pony car\u2019 ou \u2018muscle car\u2019. La capote en tissu du cabriolet lui sied plut\u00f4t bien mais c\u2019est dans sa version d\u00e9couverte qu\u2019elle est la plus r\u00e9ussie. Place \u00e0 la modernit\u00e9 avec un double-\u00e9cran tr\u00e8s large (12.4\u2019\u2019 + 13.2\u2019\u2019) qui reprend toutes les fonctions, des compteurs \u00e0 l\u2019infodivertissement, en passant par la climatisation.<\/p>\n Seules quelques fonctions restent accessibles via des boutons physiques, telles que le Start and Stop, les feux de d\u00e9tresse ou encore les \u2018fonctions Mustang\u2019 symbolis\u00e9es par le fameux cheval au galop. On retrouve \u00e9galement de tr\u00e8s (trop ?) nombreuses fonctions directement sur le volant, comme le passage aux diff\u00e9rents modes de conduite (Normal, Sport, Circuit, Piste de dragster, Faible adh\u00e9rence et Personnalis\u00e9). L\u2019ensemble est plut\u00f4t r\u00e9ussi mais la qualit\u00e9 des mat\u00e9riaux reste perfectible, notamment certains plastiques durs facilement rayables, par rapport \u00e0 la concurrence Les si\u00e8ges sont ventil\u00e9s et chauffants mais manquent un peu de tenue pour privil\u00e9gier le confort. Ils sont rabattables pour donner acc\u00e8s aux deux places arri\u00e8re aux dimensions respectables.<\/p>\n Apr\u00e8s cette premi\u00e8re phase d\u2019observation et d\u2019appropriation, on presse le bouton rouge pr\u00e9sent sur la console centrale pour \u00e9lancer le moteur V8 et ses vocalises caract\u00e9ristiques. Aucun doute, la bande sonore est \u00e0 la hauteur de nos attentes, particuli\u00e8rement avec la capote rabattue. Quelques pressions sur la p\u00e9dale d\u2019acc\u00e9l\u00e9rateur permettent de confirmer la rondeur et l\u2019onctuosit\u00e9 de la m\u00e9canique. Les performances sont \u00e9galement int\u00e9ressantes avec un 0-100 km\/h parcouru en 4.9 secondes et une vitesse maximale de 250 km\/h.<\/p>\n Celui-ci est encore et toujours le c\u0153ur de cette voiture qui semble revenue d\u2019un autre temps, un temps o\u00f9 l\u2019\u00e9cologie et l\u2019\u00e9conomie de carburant n\u2019\u00e9taient pas un v\u00e9ritable sujet. Il est clair que la sobri\u00e9t\u00e9 ne fait pas partie des qualit\u00e9s premi\u00e8res de cette Mustang, aussi moderne soit-elle (consommation moyenne lors de notre essai de\u00a015 l\/100 km).<\/p>\n En prenant la route, on prend \u00e9galement conscience du gabarit de l\u2019engin. \u00c9videmment, il ne s\u2019agit pas d\u2019un \u2018poids plume\u2019 mais plut\u00f4t d\u2019un boxeur de la cat\u00e9gorie \u2018poids lourd\u2019 (1931 kg). Le volume et le poids de cette Mustang ne sont pas parfaitement adapt\u00e9s aux petites routes valaisannes au profil sinueux. La prise en main n\u2019est pas aussi ais\u00e9e que d\u2019autres voitures similaires et n\u2019est pas faite pour rassurer imm\u00e9diatement son conducteur.
