Dimanche 19 mars, 8h, circuit de karting du Bugey. \u00ab\u00a0On y est, c\u2019est ici que l\u2019on va s\u2019\u00e9clater\u00a0!!!\u00a0\u00bb me lance Julien. Le jour se l\u00e8ve timidement sur un d\u00e9cor parsem\u00e9 de piles de pneus qui ne paie pas vraiment de mine… Tandis que plusieurs autos ultra modifi\u00e9es sont en train d\u2019\u00eatre d\u00e9charg\u00e9es de leur plateau, j\u2019embo\u00eete le pas \u00e0 Julien \u2013 fin connaisseur des lieux \u2013 jusqu\u2019au bord de la piste, o\u00f9 trois Nissan 370Z un peu particuli\u00e8res sont align\u00e9es. \u00ab\u00a0Bienvenue chez Torque Drift School\u00a0\u00bb m\u2019annonce chaleureusement Nadia en me saluant. J\u2019ai l\u2019impression de faire d\u00e9j\u00e0 partie de la famille. C\u2019est parti pour une journ\u00e9e d\u2019immersion totale dans l\u2019une des disciplines les plus spectaculaires du sport automobile\u00a0: le drift\u00a0!<\/p>\n

La journ\u00e9e commence par un briefing d\u2019une trentaine de minutes durant lequel Damien, mon instructeur pour la journ\u00e9e, pr\u00e9sente la philosophie du drift ainsi que la gestuelle de base \u00e0 adopter pour d\u00e9buter. \u00ab\u00a0Je drifte non pas parce que c\u2019est le moyen le plus rapide de prendre un virage, mais parce que c\u2019est le moyen le plus excitant\u00a0\u00bb, tels sont les mots de Keiichi Tsuchiya, qui est \u00e0 l’origine du lancement de la discipline du drift sur circuit en 1988. En comp\u00e9tition, le classement n\u2019est d\u2019ailleurs pas \u00e9tabli en fonction du meilleur temps, mais de la \u00ab\u00a0qualit\u00e9\u00a0\u00bb du run qui est \u00e9valu\u00e9 suivant diff\u00e9rents crit\u00e8res.<\/p>\n

Entre deux sessions parsem\u00e9es de quelques t\u00eate-\u00e0-queue, Julien m\u2019emm\u00e8ne avec lui dans la 370Z avec laquelle il s\u2019entra\u00eene en vue de sa participation au championnat de drift de France. C\u2019est alors que je d\u00e9couvre pleinement la notion de \u00ab connexion \u00bb des virages expliqu\u00e9e par Damien lors de la th\u00e9orie. Avec plus de 10 ans d\u2019exp\u00e9rience dans la discipline (\u00e9galement en comp\u00e9tition et en tant que coach), Julien place la 370Z exactement o\u00f9 il le souhaite. Pour ce faire, il tire parfois le frein \u00e0 main plusieurs fois de suite avant l\u2019entr\u00e9e du virage afin de pouvoir conserver l\u2019angle de d\u00e9rive sans mettre les gaz.<\/p>\n

Comme la voiture se d\u00e9place plus vite lorsqu\u2019il y a plus de distance entre les virages, l\u2019exercice demande courage et dext\u00e9rit\u00e9. C\u2019est ici que l\u2019on mesure l\u2019\u00e9norme diff\u00e9rence entre le drift et la \u00ab\u00a0simple\u00a0\u00bb mise en glisse d\u2019un v\u00e9hicule dans un virage, sans avoir pour but de maintenir la glisse sur les lignes droites s\u00e9parant les virages.<\/p>\n

Gr\u00e2ce \u00e0 cette recette ambitieuse combinant une voiture adapt\u00e9e au drift et des instructeurs tr\u00e8s comp\u00e9tents (voir ci-apr\u00e8s), Torque Drift School est probablement la meilleure \u00e9cole pour progresser rapidement dans cet art, le tout dans une ambiance d\u00e9contract\u00e9e.<\/p>\n
