Alors que l\u2019on ne l\u2019attendait plus, le constructeur au trident est enfin entr\u00e9 dans la cour des grands\u2026 en pr\u00e9sentant le premier SUV de son histoire\u00a0! C\u2019est bien s\u00fbr avec une pointe d\u2019ironie que je d\u00e9bute cet article, car la pr\u00e9sence d\u2019un SUV au sein d\u2019une marque reconnue pour ses GT prestigieuses n\u2019avait rien d\u2019\u00e9vident, et pourtant\u00a0! Le succ\u00e8s cinglant des nombreux concurrents du segment ont forc\u00e9 les constructeurs autrefois r\u00e9ticents \u00e0 voir la r\u00e9alit\u00e9 en face\u00a0: la client\u00e8le premium en qu\u00eate de SUV est toujours en augmentation. Jaguar s\u2019y est donc mis \u00e9galement, et m\u00eame Bentley. Alors pourquoi pas Aston Martin\u2026 ou Ferrari\u00a0?<\/p>\n

Ce qui ne ressort pas de prime abord, c\u2019est que la Levante S est un v\u00e9hicule imposant : avec ses 5 m\u00e8tres, il prend 27 cm \u00e0 la Jaguar F-Pace, 15 au Cayenne, mais en c\u00e8de 6 au mastodonte Q7, pour ne citer qu\u2019eux… De mon point de vue, c\u2019est le signe d\u2019une r\u00e9ussite esth\u00e9tique indiscutable. Haute et profonde, l\u2019imposante calandre attire imm\u00e9diatement l\u2019attention, surplomb\u00e9e par un capot bomb\u00e9 et des phares ac\u00e9r\u00e9s lui conf\u00e9rant un regard agressif. A l\u2019arri\u00e8re, la ligne de toit redescend t\u00f4t rendant le design fluide et contribue \u00e0 dissimuler sa carrure imposante, au d\u00e9triment de la visibilit\u00e9 et de l’habitabilit\u00e9 arri\u00e8re. Difficile d’y ranger correctement mes 195 cm, d’autant plus que notre exemplaire est \u00e9quip\u00e9 du toit ouvrant panoramique (CHF 1’688.-), dont l’enroulement de la toile pare-soleil prend quelques cm de hauteur.<\/p>\n

\nA l\u2019int\u00e9rieur, c\u2019est logiquement l\u2019\u00e9l\u00e9gance et le confort qui pr\u00e9dominent. La qualit\u00e9 d\u2019assemblage est au rendez-vous, et les diff\u00e9rents r\u00e9glages permettent de trouver la position de conduite id\u00e9ale. A noter qu\u2019il existe en option un p\u00e9dalier r\u00e9glable en profondeur. L\u2019habitacle de notre exemplaire d\u2019essai est par\u00e9 d\u2019imitations bois qui s\u2019accouple bien \u00e0 sa teinte ext\u00e9rieure, mais d\u2019autres finitions plus modernes existent \u00e9galement. La pr\u00e9sentation n\u2019a rien d\u2019extravagant et joue plut\u00f4t dans le classique, mais \u00e0 l\u2019usage, plusieurs originalit\u00e9s m\u2019ont r\u00e9jouis, \u00e0 commencer par les portes d\u00e9pourvues de montant. Plus perturbant, le fait qu\u2019il n\u2019y ait qu\u2019un seul commodo, \u00e0 gauche du volant. Le nombre de boutons a \u00e9t\u00e9 volontairement r\u00e9duit\u00a0: le chauffage des si\u00e8ges s\u2019active via l\u2019\u00e9cran central et les commandes du syst\u00e8me audio sont dissimul\u00e9es derri\u00e8re le volant. En bref, ici l\u2019esprit n\u2019est pas fatigu\u00e9 par la surabondance de boutons.<\/p>\n

A la mise en route, le 3.0L V6 bi-turbo de 430 ch se fait discret… en mode normal. Je d\u00e9couvre le v\u00e9hicule et ses diff\u00e9rents \u00e9quipements sur une cinquantaine de kilom\u00e8tres d\u2019autoroute. Dans ce contexte, la Maserati Levante S ne souffre d\u2019aucun d\u00e9faut et les diff\u00e9rentes aides \u00e0 la conduite (r\u00e9gulateur de vitesse\/distance actif, avertissement angles morts, avertissements collision) fonctionnent parfaitement. Une fois accommod\u00e9, je d\u00e9couvre une ergonomie logique et intuitive, l\u2019\u00e9cran LCD est d\u2019une excellente r\u00e9activit\u00e9 tout comme le pad central. Un bref regard aux alentours et c\u2019est maintenant que je me rends compte de ses dimensions : la BMW X3 qui me d\u00e9passe semble presque minuscule. L\u2019ambiance feutr\u00e9e qui r\u00e8gne \u00e0 bord pourrait me faire oublier que l\u2019engin revendique 430 ch. Allez, pied au fond ! Imm\u00e9diatement, la bo\u00eete automatique ZF \u00e0 8 rapports en tombe 4, et les 580 Nm de couple plaquent mon cr\u00e2ne contre l’\u00e9cusson du Trident sculpt\u00e9 sur l\u2019appui-t\u00eate. L\u2019aiguille du compte-tour s\u2019affole, et la BMW X3 r\u00e9appara\u00eet soudainement presque comme arr\u00eat\u00e9e sur la piste de droite !<\/p>\n

Je sors de l\u2019autoroute et passe en mode Sport. Les clapets d\u2019\u00e9chappement s\u2019ouvrent d\u00e9j\u00e0 au ralenti, le son se fait bien plus pr\u00e9sent, et le moteur r\u00e9agit plus promptement \u00e0 l\u2019appel des gaz. Deuxi\u00e8me pression sur ce bouton ; le ch\u00e2ssis se raffermit. Mais ce n\u2019est pas tout. Afin de me trouver dans la configuration la plus agile, je dois encore abaisser l\u2019assiette de la voiture. A noter que ces boutons \u2013 tout comme celui permettant de d\u00e9sactiver l\u2019ESP \u2013 se trouvent \u00e0 porter de main du conducteur, ce qui est tr\u00e8s pratique. Derni\u00e8re op\u00e9ration, la commutation en mode Manuel afin de pouvoir d\u00e9cider moi-m\u00eame des changements de rapports via les imposantes palettes en aluminium. Enfin, presque moi-m\u00eame ! Car m\u00eame dans ce mode, la bo\u00eete se permet de tomber 1 voire 2 rapports \u00e0 partir d\u2019une certaine quantit\u00e9 de gaz en-dessous de 2\u2019500 trs\/min (d\u00e8s 70 km\/h), la p\u00e9dale \u00e9tant d\u00e9pourvue de double but\u00e9e kick-down. Idem lors des freinages, si je ne r\u00e9trograde pas tr\u00e8s t\u00f4t, elle le fait \u00e0 ma place\u2026 Dommage. En dehors de cela, il faut reconna\u00eetre que la bo\u00eete automatique ZF \u00e9gr\u00e8ne ses 8 rapports \u00e0 la fois avec douceur et rapidit\u00e9, \u00e0 l\u2019instar des meilleures bo\u00eetes s\u00e9quentielles. C\u2019est uniquement lors de certaines reprises de r\u00e9gimes en r\u00e9trogradant que l\u2019on se rend compte de la diff\u00e9rence avec une bo\u00eete s\u00e9quentielle \u00e0 double embrayage.<\/p>\n

L\u2019un des nombreux \u00e9crans d\u2019informations de l\u2019ODB permet de voir la r\u00e9partition du couple entre les 2 essieux. Lors des relances, l\u2019\u00e9lectronique calcule et adapte en permanence la r\u00e9partition, en fonction notamment de la quantit\u00e9 de gaz et des conditions d\u2019adh\u00e9rence. A vitesse stable, l’entier du couple est distribu\u00e9 par l’essieu arri\u00e8re, alors que lors des relances la r\u00e9partition peut aller jusqu’\u00e0 50\/50. Sur une route s\u00e8che, la distribution est g\u00e9n\u00e9ralement de l’ordre de 75\/25 lors des relances, donc un comportement typ\u00e9 propulsion. Un diff\u00e9rentiel \u00e0 glissement limit\u00e9 assure une motricit\u00e9 quasiment sans faille en sortie de virage, il est possible de faire d\u00e9bouler toute la cavalerie avant d\u2019avoir les roues droites. Le V6 de 3.0L fournit des mont\u00e9es en r\u00e9gimes enivrantes accompagn\u00e9es d\u2019une sonorit\u00e9 plus proche de celle d\u2019un V8 que d\u2019un V6, et n\u2019est en rien perturb\u00e9e par la suralimentation. En changeant de rapport \u00e0 mi-r\u00e9gimes, un son m\u00e9tallique presque d\u00e9moniaque sort des \u00e9chappements ! C\u2019est en abaissant le rythme que je me rends compte qu\u2019\u00e9tonnamment, le moteur est creux en-dessous de 2\u2019000 trs\/min, ce qui explique en partie \u2013 mais ne pardonne pas \u2013 les initiatives de la bo\u00eete cit\u00e9es plus haut.<\/p>\n

Sur la Levante S, le freinage est assur\u00e9 par des disques perc\u00e9s de 380mm pinc\u00e9s par des \u00e9triers Brembo \u00e0 6 pistons \u00e0 l’avant. Je n\u2019ai pas eu l\u2019occasion de tester leur endurance, mais leur efficacit\u00e9 m\u2019a rapidement mis en confiance.
