Samedi c\u2019est le grand jour. J\u2019insiste pour \u00eatre du premier voyage menant aux stands. Je veux me plonger dans l\u2019ambiance d\u00e8s le warm up, une courte s\u00e9ance d\u2019essais libres destin\u00e9e \u00e0 s\u2019assurer que tout fonctionne bien avant le grand d\u00e9part. Malgr\u00e9 mon lever matinal, la journ\u00e9e file \u00e0 la vitesse des bolides sur la ligne droite des Hunaudi\u00e8res. Juste apr\u00e8s le repas de midi, je suis surpris d\u2019entendre d\u00e9j\u00e0 les premi\u00e8res voitures quitter les stands pour rejoindre la grille de d\u00e9part. Une grille de d\u00e9part que j\u2019ai l\u2019honneur d\u2019arpenter quelques minutes plus tard gr\u00e2ce au \u00ab\u00a0pass gridwalk\u00a0\u00bb.<\/p>\n

Chevrelot Europe ayant tout pr\u00e9vu, nous avons juste le temps de prendre un rafraichissement avant de grimper sur la tribune surplombant les stands. Un endroit id\u00e9al pour vivre le d\u00e9part de cette course mythique. Je vois les voitures sortir des virages Porsche, le Safety Car prendre la voie des stands, lib\u00e9rant la meute de voitures. Le peloton compact d\u00e9file devant nous dans un brouhaha \u00e9tourdissant tandis que les leaders disparaissent d\u00e9j\u00e0 en direction de la passerelle Dunlop. C\u2019est parti\u00a0! Si durant les premiers tours, les voitures repassent devant nous en file indienne, il ne faudra pas longtemps pour qu\u2019elles se repartissent sur toute la longueur du circuit.<\/p>\n

Cot\u00e9 Corvette Racing, ce d\u00e9but de course commence bien puisque les deux GT am\u00e9ricaines dominent les six premi\u00e8res heures. Nous en profitons pour faire une visite dans les box par petits groupes de deux ou trois personnes pour assister \u00e0 un arr\u00eat au stand. Oliver Gavin me donne un casque qui me permet d\u2019\u00e9couter les passionnantes explications d\u2019Oliver ainsi que les communications entre membres du team. A ce moment de la course, la voiture va s\u2019arr\u00eater uniquement pour ravitailler, pas de changement de pilote pr\u00e9vu. \u00a05-4-3-2-1\u2026 et voil\u00e0 le bolide jaune qui s\u2019immobilise devant moi. L’enjeu est crucial, la voiture qui gagne est souvent celle qui aura pass\u00e9 le moins de temps dans les stands. Un arr\u00eat \u00e9clair, d\u2019abord le plein, puis quatre pneus, un coup de chiffon sur le pare-brise et c\u2019est reparti ! Un spectacle parfaitement orchestr\u00e9 o\u00f9 chacun conna\u00eet sa partition par c\u0153ur.<\/p>\n

A la tomb\u00e9e de la nuit, nous nous d\u00e9pla\u00e7ons \u00e0 la premi\u00e8re chicane des Hunaudi\u00e8res afin de vivre la magie de la nuit du Mans. Alors que je suis en train de faire quelques clich\u00e9s, tout \u00e0 coup la Corvette no 63 fait un tout droit devant moi et court-circuite la chicane. J\u2019ai pens\u00e9 dans un premier temps que c\u2019\u00e9tait juste une erreur de pilotage, avant d\u2019apprendre dans la nuit que c\u2019\u00e9tait le d\u00e9but d\u2019importants soucis m\u00e9caniques sur le train arri\u00e8re de la voiture, dont un bris de suspension, qui conduiront finalement \u00e0 son abandon. Tous les espoirs du clan Corvette se reposent donc dor\u00e9navant sur la voiture num\u00e9ro 64.<\/p>\n

Nous quittons les Hunaudi\u00e8res pour nous rendre au virage d\u2019Indianapolis, mon spot pr\u00e9f\u00e9r\u00e9 de nuit. En effet, depuis l\u00e0 il est facile de longer la piste une centaine de m\u00e8tres jusqu\u2019\u00e0 Arnage, le virage le plus lent du circuit. Le meilleur endroit pour photographier les voitures de nuit avec les disques de freins bien rouges. Mais aujourd\u2019hui ce n\u2019est pas vraiment au programme, mes coll\u00e8gues \u00e9mettant rapidement le d\u00e9sir de rejoindre la loge VIP dans le paddock. Personnellement je serais volontiers rest\u00e9 l\u00e0 des heures enti\u00e8res, \u00e0 voir, \u00e9couter et respirer la course.<\/p>\n

Au Mans c\u2019est la nuit que j\u2019adore\u2026 dommage qu\u2019elle soit si courte ! Cette ann\u00e9e, je me suis exceptionnellement accord\u00e9 quelques heures de sommeil au lever du jour\u2026 pas beaucoup mais suffisamment pour vivre la fin de course dans les meilleures conditions. Lorsque je rejoins la loge, La Corvette no 64 se bat pour reprendre la t\u00eate de la course qu\u2019elle a provisoirement perdu lors des arr\u00eats aux stands. C\u2019est chose faite lorsque nous approchons de la 18\u00e8me heure de course. Aucune alerte \u00e0 bord de la Corvette, Alexander Sims, alors au volant, vient de battre le record du tour quand subitement, coup de th\u00e9\u00e2tre !<\/p>\n

La GT jaune se fait percuter par une LMP2 sur la ligne droite des Hunaudi\u00e8res. La belle am\u00e9ricaine est litt\u00e9ralement envoy\u00e9e dans les rails de s\u00e9curit\u00e9. C\u2019est la stupeur dans le camp Corvette. Heureusement, le pilote est indemne et sort de la voiture sans assistance. Avec cet abandon s\u2019envolent tous les espoirs de victoire. Chevrolet perd sa deuxi\u00e8me C8.R alors qu\u2019une superbe victoire en GTE Pro se dessinait. On baisse les rideaux dans le stand Corvette\u2026 sur un incident dont ils ne sont nullement responsables.<\/p>\n

Tout le monde suit la fin de course, mais naturellement l\u2019esprit n\u2019est plus vraiment \u00e0 la f\u00eate. C\u2019est donc tr\u00e8s int\u00e9rieurement que j\u2019ai explos\u00e9 de joie lorsque S\u00e9bastien Buemi a franchi la ligne d\u2019arriv\u00e9e en vainqueur pour la 4\u00e8me fois\u2026 tandis qu\u2019en GT, c\u2019est Porsche qui profite des d\u00e9boires de Corvette pour retrouver la victoire au Mans.<\/p>\n

Lundi matin, je suis ravi de retrouver la C8 Stingray pour reprendre la route vers la Suisse. Arriv\u00e9 \u00e0 Zurich, je dois bien me r\u00e9soudre \u00e0 rendre ma compagne du week-end, non sans avoir jet\u00e9 un coup d\u2019\u0153il \u00e0 la consommation. Je suis surpris de constater que sur l\u2019ensemble du trajet, je n\u2019ai consomm\u00e9 qu\u2019environ 11 l\/100 km. Au vu de ma conduite soutenue et du nombre de franches acc\u00e9l\u00e9rations, je trouve que c\u2019est raisonnable pour ce gros V8 atmosph\u00e9rique.<\/p>\n
