Audi a initi\u00e9 le segment des compactes premium sportives il y a un plus de 20 ans. C\u2019est en 1999 qu\u2019est apparue la premi\u00e8re S3, bas\u00e9e sur l\u2019Audi A3 de premi\u00e8re g\u00e9n\u00e9ration (8L). Elle pesait 1\u2019375 kg et abattait le 0-100 km\/h en 6,8 secondes gr\u00e2ce \u00e0 son 4 cylindres 1,8L turbo. A cette \u00e9poque, la S3 n\u2019\u00e9tait disponible qu\u2019en trois portes. La version Sportback \u00e0 5 portes sera propos\u00e9e \u00e0 choix sur les deux g\u00e9n\u00e9rations suivantes (8P et 8V). Aujourd\u2019hui, la quatri\u00e8me g\u00e9n\u00e9ration de la S3 est propos\u00e9e soit en version berline tri-corps (aussi appel\u00e9e S3 sedan), soit en version 5 portes Sportback dont nous vous proposons l\u2019essai aujourd\u2019hui.<\/p>\n

Visuellement, l\u2019Audi A3 de quatri\u00e8me g\u00e9n\u00e9ration renvoie une image plus dynamique que la g\u00e9n\u00e9ration pr\u00e9c\u00e9dente. Elle perd un peu en discr\u00e9tion ce qu\u2019elle gagne en sportivit\u00e9, \u00e0 l\u2019image de ses ailes arri\u00e8re galb\u00e9es, de ses flancs prononc\u00e9s ou de ses optiques \u00e0 la signature lumineuse moderne. La S3 h\u00e9rite donc de ce design bien n\u00e9 sans modifications majeures. Son principal signe distinctif r\u00e9side dans ses quatre sorties d\u2019\u00e9chappement chrom\u00e9es du plus bel effet. Le ch\u00e2ssis est abaiss\u00e9 de 15mm et re\u00e7oit des jantes de 18 pouces de s\u00e9rie (19\u2019 en option) qui passent presque inaper\u00e7ues, d’autant plus lorsqu’elles sont peintes dans la m\u00eame couleur que la carrosserie (gris Daytona nacr\u00e9).<\/p>\n

Afin de souligner son caract\u00e8re plus sportif, Audi a augment\u00e9 la taille des entr\u00e9es d\u2019air. Dommage que ces \u00e9l\u00e9ments soient factices et surtout bouch\u00e9s de mani\u00e8re peu adroite (tout comme les grilles arri\u00e8re ainsi que certaines mailles de la calandre). Cela peut appara\u00eetre comme une faute de go\u00fbt, \u00e0 plus forte raison sur une Audi dont les finitions se doivent d\u2019\u00eatre en concordance avec le prix demand\u00e9.<\/p>\n

L\u2019ergonomie est toujours un point fort de la marque aux anneaux, d\u2019autant plus qu\u2019Audi n\u2019a pas c\u00e9d\u00e9 \u00e0 la tentation du tout tactile (souvent irritant) pour cette quatri\u00e8me g\u00e9n\u00e9ration de l\u2019A3. Le volant conserve donc ses boutons, tout comme le combin\u00e9 d\u00e9di\u00e9 \u00e0 la climatisation. C\u00f4t\u00e9 sportivit\u00e9, les nouveaux si\u00e8ges S proposent un excellent compromis entre maintient et confort. Pour le reste, l\u2019habitacle reste assez similaire \u00e0 celui d\u2019une Audi A3 bien \u00e9quip\u00e9e. Non pr\u00e9sent sur notre voiture d’essai, le volant sport \u00e0 m\u00e9plat est propos\u00e9 en option (CHF 150.-).\u00a0<\/p>\n

L\u2019augmentation du gabarit (+ 3 cm en longueur et en largeur) profite aux passagers arri\u00e8re qui sont plut\u00f4t bien lotis. Par rapport \u00e0 la g\u00e9n\u00e9ration pr\u00e9c\u00e9dente, le coffre est par contre l\u00e9g\u00e8rement plus petit, passant de 340 \u00e0 325 litres.<\/p>\n

Sous le capot, on retrouve celui que l\u2019on ne pr\u00e9sente plus : le 4 cylindres 2.0L turbo EA888, ici dans sa version 3b (m\u00eame version que sur la g\u00e9n\u00e9ration pr\u00e9c\u00e9dente). Il d\u00e9veloppe une puissance de 310 ch et un couple de 400 Nm, et est toujours accoupl\u00e9 \u00e0 la bo\u00eete automatique \u00e0 double embrayage S-Tronic \u00e0 7 rapports. Caract\u00e9ristique embl\u00e9matique de la S3 d\u00e8s sa sortie, la transmission quattro est naturellement toujours de la partie. Mais contrairement \u00e0 sa cousine la VW Golf 8 R, l\u2019Audi S3 n\u2019est pas \u00e9quip\u00e9e du nouveau diff\u00e9rentiel avec Torque Vectoring sur l\u2019essieu arri\u00e8re cens\u00e9 rendre le comportement plus sportif. La S3 est donc toujours \u00e9quip\u00e9e de l\u2019embrayage multi-disques Haldex faisant d\u2019elle une traction par d\u00e9faut qui peut recevoir jusqu\u2019\u00e0 50% du couple sur les roues arri\u00e8re.<\/p>\n

Sur la route, l\u2019Audi S3 brille toujours par sa polyvalence d\u2019utilisation. En mode Confort, les suspensions me semblent l\u00e9g\u00e8rement plus s\u00e8ches que sur les VW Golf R<\/a> et Seat Leon Cupra ST 370<\/a> que j\u2019ai pu essayer. Toutefois, la filtration des asp\u00e9rit\u00e9s est meilleure qu\u2019\u00e0 bord de la Mercedes A35-AMG<\/a>.<\/p>\n

Hormis les nouveaux syst\u00e8mes d\u2019assistance \u00e0 la conduite, il n\u2019y a pas d\u2019\u00e9volution notable au niveau de l\u2019agr\u00e9ment de conduite ni au niveau des performances (0-100 km\/h en 4,8 secondes). Dans certaines situations, le nouveau levier de s\u00e9lection de la transmission s\u2019av\u00e8re m\u00eame moins pratique que son pr\u00e9d\u00e9cesseur, puisqu\u2019il ne permet plus de passer les rapports, m\u00eame si il y a toujours les palettes situ\u00e9es derri\u00e8re le volant.<\/p>\n

Le ch\u00e2ssis sport r\u00e9glable (CHF 990.-) se fait nettement plus ferme en mode Dynamic. Pr\u00e9cise, la S3 peut d\u00e9fier n\u2019importe quelle courbe avec dext\u00e9rit\u00e9, mais on \u00e9prouve assez peu de sensations \u00e0 son volant. Le freinage est performant bien qu\u2019il ne soit pas largement dimensionn\u00e9 en regard des 1’575 kg de l\u2019engin. Son endurance risque de faire d\u00e9faut sur circuit o\u00f9 des disques plus grands et des \u00e9triers fixes sont souvent de rigueur.<\/p>\n

En mode Dynamic, la sonorit\u00e9 artificielle g\u00e9n\u00e9r\u00e9e dans l\u2019habitacle (syst\u00e8me sound aktor pr\u00e9sent depuis quelques ann\u00e9es sur les sportives du groupe) prend le pas sur l\u2019\u00e9chappement qui se veut encore plus discret que sur les mod\u00e8les pr\u00e9c\u00e9dents.<\/p>\n

Avec sa technologie embarqu\u00e9e, sa consommation correcte et sa sonorit\u00e9 artificielle, l\u2019Audi S3 Sportback (8Y) s\u2019inscrit bien dans notre \u00e9poque. Sans grande surprise, la marque aux anneaux nous livre une excellente voiture \u00e0 tout faire, mais toujours plus aseptis\u00e9e en mati\u00e8re de sportivit\u00e9. Nul doute que depuis quelques ann\u00e9es, c\u2019est plut\u00f4t la RS3<\/a> qui porte les valeurs sportives n\u00e9es il y a plus de 20 ans dans la premi\u00e8re S3. Tr\u00e8s attendue, cette derni\u00e8re devrait \u00eatre pr\u00e9sent\u00e9e prochainement dans sa nouvelle g\u00e9n\u00e9ration !<\/strong><\/p>\n
