McLaren, marque avec laquelle Ayrton Senna et bien d\u2019autres pilotes d\u2019exception ont remport\u00e9 plusieurs titres de champion du monde, ne construit pas seulement des monoplaces de F1 mais \u00e9galement des voitures de s\u00e9rie. Celles-ci se d\u00e9clinent en trois cat\u00e9gories : Ultimate cars, avec par exemple la tr\u00e8s extr\u00eame McLaren Senna de 800 ch, Supercars, avec notamment la McLaren 720S Spider<\/a> que nous avons essay\u00e9e au mois d\u2019avril, et GT. Cette derni\u00e8re cat\u00e9gorie ne comporte pour l\u2019instant qu\u2019un seul mod\u00e8le : la nouvelle McLaren GT que nous avons pu conduire pendant six jours et qui nous a enthousiasm\u00e9s par l\u2019incroyable pouss\u00e9e de son moteur V8 bi-turbo de 620 ch ainsi que par une polyvalence in\u00e9dite pour une voiture \u00e0 moteur central.<\/p>\n

Comme son nom l\u2019indique, la McLaren GT est une grand tourisme, comprenez par-l\u00e0 une voiture qui est davantage destin\u00e9e \u00e0 \u00eatre utilis\u00e9e sur la route que sur circuit. Mais attention, il s\u2019agit d\u2019une GT qui est impr\u00e9gn\u00e9e de l\u2019ADN sportif de la marque de Woking et qui affiche une polyvalence nettement sup\u00e9rieure \u00e0 celle de la McLaren 570GT<\/a> que nous avions essay\u00e9e il y a cinq ans.<\/p>\n

Cette nouvelle GT est en mesure de r\u00e9pondre encore mieux aux exigences d\u2019une client\u00e8le qui souhaite utiliser sa voiture pour se rendre de Gen\u00e8ve \u00e0 St-Tropez ou de Gen\u00e8ve \u00e0 Verbier. Et cette derni\u00e8re localit\u00e9 n\u2019a pas \u00e9t\u00e9 choisie par hasard car le coffre de la nouvelle McLaren GT permet de transporter deux paires de skis ! Sa longueur (4,68 m) a en effet gagn\u00e9 14 cm par rapport \u00e0 celle de la 720S<\/a>. Cela a permis d\u2019y am\u00e9nager un compartiment \u00e0 bagages arri\u00e8re de 450 litres qui s\u2019ajoute au coffre de 150 litres, tr\u00e8s profond, sous le capot avant.<\/p>\n

Par rapport \u00e0 la 720S Coup\u00e9, qui dispose de deux compartiments \u00e0 bagages de respectivement 150 et 220 litres, le gain de place de 230 litres est tr\u00e8s appr\u00e9ciable. Une fois la porte en \u00e9lytre ouverte, on se glisse facilement dans un habitacle particuli\u00e8rement raffin\u00e9 avec cuir, alcantara et aluminium poli. Quant \u00e0 l\u2019\u00e9cran d\u2019info-divertissement de la console m\u00e9diane flottante, il est entour\u00e9 de noir piano et d\u2019un m\u00e9tal satin\u00e9 du plus bel effet. C\u2019est juste au-dessous de cette console que se trouve le bouton rouge du d\u00e9marreur. Nous l\u2019appuyons sans plus tarder et le V8 bi-turbo de 620 ch s\u2019anime dans une sonorit\u00e9 grave, certes prometteuse mais tout de m\u00eame relativement discr\u00e8te.<\/p>\n

On est en effet au volant d\u2019une grand tourisme et non pas d\u2019une voiture de course. Une McLaren GT ne s\u2019illustre pas en r\u00e9veillant inutilement le voisinage mais bien en procurant un v\u00e9ritable plaisir de conduite. De ce c\u00f4t\u00e9-l\u00e0, il n\u2019y a vraiment rien \u00e0 redire. Son faible poids de 1\u2019530 kg lui permet d\u2019acc\u00e9l\u00e9rer de 0 \u00e0 100 km\/h en seulement 3,2 secondes et il ne lui faut que 9 secondes pour atteindre 200 km\/h. Ce que nous avons le plus appr\u00e9ci\u00e9 cependant, c\u2019est la souplesse de son moteur. Le couple maxi de 630 Nm est certes atteint entre 5\u2019500 et 6\u2019500 trs\/min, mais la pouss\u00e9e est d\u00e9j\u00e0 incroyablement forte d\u00e8s 3\u2019000 trs\/min. Il n\u2019est ainsi nul besoin de jouer avec l\u2019excellente bo\u00eete robotis\u00e9e \u00e0 sept rapports pour s\u2019extraire comme une balle des virages rapides du massif du Gibloux ou de la course de c\u00f4te de Ch\u00e2tel-St-Denis\u2013Les Paccots. Surtout dans les modes \u00abSport\u00bb et \u00abTrack\u00bb, deux des trois modes que l\u2019on peut activer en plus du mode \u00abComfort\u00bb.<\/p>\n

Rien \u00e0 redire non plus au niveau de la tenue de route. Celle-ci s\u2019av\u00e8re irr\u00e9prochable gr\u00e2ce notamment au \u00abProactive Damping Control\u00bb, un syst\u00e8me de suspension adaptatif qui assure, selon le mode s\u00e9lectionn\u00e9, un parfait compromis entre le filtrage des imperfections de la chauss\u00e9e et le maintien horizontal de la voiture. La direction, d\u2019une pr\u00e9cision chirurgicale, participe elle aussi au plaisir de conduite \u00e9voqu\u00e9 ci-dessus. Quant aux d\u00e9c\u00e9l\u00e9rations, assur\u00e9es par des freins en carbone (une option factur\u00e9e CHF 6’632.- sur notre mod\u00e8le d\u2019essai), elles sont ahurissantes. McLaren annonce d\u2019ailleurs des distances de freinage d\u2019\u00e0 peine 30 et 118 m\u00e8tres pour passer de 100 \u00e0 0 km\/h et de 200 \u00e0 0 km\/h !<\/p>\n

Cerise sur le g\u00e2teau, la McLaren GT s\u2019est illustr\u00e9e par une consommation d\u2019essence encore plus raisonnable que celle que nous avions enregistr\u00e9e lors de notre essai de la McLaren 720S Spider. Si cette derni\u00e8re avait \u00e9t\u00e9 cr\u00e9dit\u00e9e d\u2019une consommation moyenne de 14,1 l\/100 km, la McLaren GT s\u2019est content\u00e9e de 12,8 l\/100 km avec une consommation minimale d\u2019\u00e0 peine 10,3 l\/100 km sur un tron\u00e7on d\u2019autoroute parcouru \u00e0 une vitesse moyenne de 116 km\/h. Il s\u2019agit l\u00e0 d\u2019une soif mod\u00e9r\u00e9e qui permet d\u2019effectuer le parcours Gen\u00e8ve-St-Tropez (560 km), \u00e9voqu\u00e9 au d\u00e9but de cet article, sans devoir s\u2019arr\u00eater pour ravitailler \u00e9tant donn\u00e9 que la capacit\u00e9 du r\u00e9servoir de la McLaren GT s\u2019\u00e9l\u00e8ve \u00e0 72 litres !<\/p>\n

Tout irait-il donc pour le mieux dans le meilleur des mondes ? Pas tout \u00e0 fait. On regrettera ainsi que les images de la cam\u00e9ra de recul n\u2019apparaissent pas dans l\u2019\u00e9cran de la console m\u00e9diane flottante. Elles s\u2019affichent en effet dans l\u2019\u00e9cran situ\u00e9 derri\u00e8re le volant. Or, d\u00e8s que l\u2019on effectue une marche arri\u00e8re en tournant \u00e0 90 degr\u00e9s, les branches du volant masquent irr\u00e9m\u00e9diablement l\u2019\u00e9cran ! On pourrait aussi d\u00e9plorer le prix de certaines options, par exemple CHF 1\u2019392 francs pour avoir des \u00e9triers de frein d\u2019une couleur sp\u00e9ciale. Cela sur une voiture dont le prix de base s\u2019\u00e9l\u00e8ve tout de m\u00eame \u00e0 CHF 220’660.-. Mais, c\u2019est bien connu, quand on aime, on ne compte pas !<\/p>\n

La nouvelle McLaren GT a r\u00e9solu avec brio l\u2019\u00e9quation qui consistait \u00e0 commercialiser une voiture \u00e0 moteur central susceptible d\u2019\u00eatre polyvalente tout en \u00e9tant impr\u00e9gn\u00e9e de l\u2019ADN de la marque.
