Lanc\u00e9 il y a une dizaine d’ann\u00e9es, le petit SUV de BMW s\u00e9duit de plus en plus de conducteurs \u00e0 en croire les chiffres de production, passant de 100’000 v\u00e9hicules produits en 2010 \u00e0 plus de 280’000 en 2018. Propos\u00e9 dans une multitude de motorisations essence ou diesel, il manquait une version hybride au X1 afin de satisfaire les ambitieux objectifs du constructeur bavarois dans le domaine de l’\u00e9lectromobilit\u00e9 : produire 1 million de v\u00e9hicules \u00e9lectriques ou hybrides d’ici la fin 2021, repr\u00e9sentant un quart des v\u00e9hicules vendus par le groupe en Europe, puis augmenter cette proportion \u00e0 un tiers en 2025 et enfin \u00e0 la moiti\u00e9 en 2030.<\/p>\n

Le gabarit g\u00e9n\u00e9ral du BMW X1 surprend par sa taille : le SUV \u00ab compact \u00bb de BMW affiche tout de m\u00eame 4,45 m de longueur pour une largeur hors r\u00e9troviseurs de 1,82 m. A titre de comparaison, il mesure 26 cm de plus que le petit Audi Q2<\/a>, 22 cm de plus que le Volkswagen T-Roc<\/a> et 8 cm de plus que le X2, bas\u00e9 sur la m\u00eame plate-forme, mais de type Crossover, plus sportif.\u00a0<\/p>\n

L’avant suit la tendance stylistique actuelle de BMW, avec une calandre formant les deux \u00e9normes nasaux si distinctifs de la marque de Munich. En outre, notre mod\u00e8le d’essai \u2013 en finition M Sport \u2013 poss\u00e8de une prise d’air inf\u00e9rieure centrale ainsi que deux entr\u00e9es d\u2019air suppl\u00e9mentaires sur les c\u00f4t\u00e9s. Dans celles-ci viennent se loger les clignotants. Ces appendices lui donnent une apparence sensiblement plus sportive que le mod\u00e8le de base. Le paquet d’options M Sport (CHF 5’670.-) inclut, entre autres, des jantes sp\u00e9cifiques de 18 pouces ainsi que la teinte blanc alpin.<\/p>\n

Ce X1 n’ayant pas une vocation de v\u00e9hicule de franchissement, le mode 4×4 n’est utilis\u00e9 que de mani\u00e8re ponctuelle lors de conditions d’adh\u00e9rence d\u00e9grad\u00e9es, o\u00f9 les deux moteurs vont fonctionner de concert.<\/p>\n

Relier le moteur \u00e9lectrique \u00e0 l’essieu arri\u00e8re va par contre limiter la force de freinage r\u00e9g\u00e9n\u00e9rative, puisqu’il serait trop dangereux de freiner seulement des roues arri\u00e8re. Il n’y a donc qu’une petite partie de l’\u00e9nergie de freinage qui est r\u00e9cup\u00e9r\u00e9e.<\/p>\n

Cette motorisation hybride dispose de 3 modes : Auto eDrive est le fonctionnement standard, mais celui-ci pourrait \u00eatre am\u00e9lior\u00e9. En effet, au vu de la modeste puissance du moteur \u00e9lectrique, le 3 cylindres turbo s’enclenche souvent lors des acc\u00e9l\u00e9rations o\u00f9 la puissance est n\u00e9cessaire, mais il tarde ensuite \u00e0 laisser sa place au moteur \u00e9lectrique \u00e0 vitesse stabilis\u00e9e. Dans le mode Max eDrive, le moteur \u00e9lectrique est utilis\u00e9 en permanence, mais une but\u00e9e mobile sur l’acc\u00e9l\u00e9rateur permet tout de m\u00eame d’enclencher le moteur thermique au besoin. Ce mode ne fonctionne que jusqu’\u00e0 135 km\/h. Enfin, comme sur la plupart des v\u00e9hicules hybrides rechargeables, un mode Save Battery permet de rouler en maintenant le niveau de batterie actuel en vue d’une utilisation future en \u00e9lectrique (pour la ville par exemple). En revanche, il n’y a pas de mode de recharge de la batterie par le moteur thermique, puisque les deux groupes ne sont pas li\u00e9s m\u00e9caniquement l’un \u00e0 l’autre.<\/p>\n

S\u2019ajoutent aux modes d\u2019entra\u00eenement pr\u00e9cit\u00e9s trois modes de conduite ; Confort est le mode par d\u00e9faut, Ecopro limite le chauffage et affiche sur le tableau de bord les informations utiles \u00e0 l’\u00e9coconduite, alors que le mode Sport va automatiquement mettre \u00e0 contribution les deux moteurs afin de disposer de la puissance combin\u00e9e de 220 ch. A noter que la duret\u00e9 des suspensions ne varie pas en fonction des modes. Il en r\u00e9sulte un compromis qui s’av\u00e8re relativement efficace en conduite dynamique mais tant\u00f4t un peu sec en conduite quotidienne.<\/p>\n

Lors de notre essai par temp\u00e9ratures automnales, nous avons relev\u00e9 une autonomie de 32 km pour un parcours mixte, ce qui diff\u00e8re passablement des 55 km annonc\u00e9s par BMW en cycle WLTP. N\u00e9anmoins, cette autonomie va fortement varier en fonction des routes emprunt\u00e9es et du type de conduite. Une fois la batterie vide, notre X1 affiche une consommation de 6.5 l\/100km en utilisation mixte, ce qui est peu compte tenu de son poids, mais finalement coh\u00e9rent pour un moteur essence 3 cylindres de 1.5L. L’\u00e9nergie r\u00e9cup\u00e9r\u00e9e lors des freinages permettra n\u00e9anmoins de disposer de la puissance totale de 220 ch lors d’acc\u00e9l\u00e9rations ponctuelles. Il faudra attendre un peu plus de trois heures sur une source \u00e9lectrique de 230 V 16A afin de pouvoir repartir avec la batterie enti\u00e8rement recharg\u00e9e.<\/p>\n

Le touch\u00e9 de frein pourrait \u00eatre am\u00e9lior\u00e9 : il faut un certain temps avant de r\u00e9ussir \u00e0 le doser correctement, car la puissance de freinage r\u00e9g\u00e9n\u00e9ratif n’est pas constante. Il faut donc se fier au tableau de bord afin d’effectuer des freinages efficients.<\/p>\n

Toutefois, ce BMW X1 procure d’agr\u00e9ables sensations en conduite dynamique pour un v\u00e9hicule de ce gabarit : en mode Sport, sur de petites routes sinueuses, l’acc\u00e9l\u00e9rateur est tr\u00e8s r\u00e9actif et sa tenue de route est remarquable. Mais \u00e0 r\u00e9gime plus \u00e9lev\u00e9, les 220 ch montreront vite leur limite pour mouvoir les 1\u2019820 kg de ce SUV.<\/p>\n
