Pour les raisons que nous connaissons tous, l\u2019essentiel de la gamme 718 chez Porsche fait aujourd\u2019hui appel \u00e0 un moteur \u00e0 4 cylindres \u00e0 plat suraliment\u00e9 affichant une puissance de 300 ou 350 ch suivant les versions. Sous le capot, l\u2019ancien flat6 de 3.8L de 375 ch a c\u00e9d\u00e9 sa place \u00e0 un nouveau moteur de 4.0L affichant 420 ch, soit une augmentation de 45 ch. Le couple est en revanche identique (420 Nm) et l\u2019exercice du 0 \u00e0 100 km\/h ne gagne qu\u2019un petit dixi\u00e8me (4,4 sec), la faute \u00e0 une centaine de kilos suppl\u00e9mentaires (1\u2019420 kg \u00e0 vide). Pour maintenir les \u00e9missions de CO2 \u00e0 un niveau acceptable, Porsche recourt \u00e0 la d\u00e9sactivation des cylindres \u00e0 tr\u00e8s faible charge. Imperceptible dans la plupart des voitures, ici la diff\u00e9rence entre le fonctionnement avec 3 ou 6 cylindres s\u2019entend, signe que l\u2019insonorisation du moteur n\u2019est pas trop pr\u00e9sente ; un point plut\u00f4t positif. Difficile d\u2019en profiter pleinement sur nos routes, alors que le deuxi\u00e8me rapport peut \u00eatre tir\u00e9 jusqu\u2019\u00e0 plus de 120 km\/h ; l’\u00e9tagement est donc un peu long vu la spontan\u00e9it\u00e9 avec laquelle le flat6 affectionne les hauts r\u00e9gimes.
