Mais alors, qu’est-ce qu’un Land Rover Range Rover Velar SVAutobiography Dynamic\u00a0? Effectivement, face \u00e0 pareille appellation, un bref rappel historique s’impose. Land Rover lan\u00e7a un mod\u00e8le de v\u00e9hicule tout-terrain dans les ann\u00e9es 70, le Range Rover. Comme son nom l’indique, le d\u00e9partement Special Vehicle Operations, abr\u00e9g\u00e9 SV, produit les versions sp\u00e9ciales de plusieurs mod\u00e8les de Range Rover et de Jaguar, les deux marques ayant fusionn\u00e9 en 2008. De chez SV, nous avons d\u00e9j\u00e0 eu l’occasion d’essayer le Range Rover Sport SVR<\/a> ainsi que le Jaguar F-Pace SVR<\/a>. Ces derniers ont une orientation sportive, mais SV produit \u00e9galement des versions plus luxueuses et exclusives, sous la griffe de SVAutobiography. Pour le Velar, Range Rover propose cette version coupl\u00e9e \u00e0 l’esprit sportif des versions SVR d’autres mod\u00e8les sous l’appellation de SVAutobiography Dynamic. Nous y retrouvons donc le fameux V8 5.0L compress\u00e9 d\u00e9veloppant 550 ch et 680 Nm de couple.<\/p>\n

Partageant la m\u00eame plate-forme \u00ab\u00a0D7a\u00a0\u00bb que les Jaguar F-Pace<\/a>, XE et XF, le Velar a pour objectif de combler la lacune existante entre le Range Rover Evoque et le Range Rover Sport<\/a>. Par sa longueur de 4.82 m, il se rapproche toutefois plus du Range Rover Sport que de l’Evoque. Mais son design dynamique et fluide en ferait presque un gros break au premier coup d’\u0153il, surtout \u00e0 l\u2019arr\u00eat lorsque les suspensions sont au plus bas pour faciliter l\u2019acc\u00e8s \u00e0 bord.<\/p>\n

Ayant remport\u00e9 le \u00ab\u00a0World Car Design of the Year\u00a0\u00bb 2018, le design du Velar fait forte impression\u00a0: une sorte d’alchimie entre la classe british, avec cette peinture deux tons d\u00e9limitant la ceinture de caisse ainsi qu\u2019une \u00e9vocation de puissance traduite par les grosses entr\u00e9es d’air \u00e0 l’avant ou la paire de doubles sorties d’\u00e9chappement \u00e0 l’arri\u00e8re. Les jantes de 22 pouces peintes en anthracite m\u00e9tallis\u00e9 parach\u00e8vent la classe de ce carrosse.<\/p>\n

Le d\u00e9verrouillage du v\u00e9hicule avec la t\u00e9l\u00e9commande fait appara\u00eetre les poign\u00e9es de porte r\u00e9tractables. Celles-ci sont apparentes lorsque le v\u00e9hicule est d\u00e9verrouill\u00e9 et roule en dessous de 7 km\/h (seuil de vitesse param\u00e9trable). Le bruit de l’ouverture de la porte donne un rassurant sentiment d’entrer dans un v\u00e9hicule robuste, qui a fait la r\u00e9putation de Range Rover. Ce c\u00f4t\u00e9 costaud s’efface quand nos yeux se posent sur la planche de bord, tr\u00e8s sobre et d\u00e9pouill\u00e9e. La colonne centrale, noir brillante, int\u00e8gre un \u00e9cran tactile ainsi que deux molettes chrom\u00e9es, dont le cerclage imite au premier abord un sertissage de diamants… tout un programme\u00a0!<\/p>\n

Le Velar SVA dispose de sept programmes de conduite. Le programme Confort est le mode standard du Velar. Toutefois, les irr\u00e9gularit\u00e9s de la chauss\u00e9e restent perceptibles. Trois modes sont orient\u00e9s pour une utilisation hors chemin : les programmes \u00ab Herbe-Gravier-Neige \u00bb, \u00ab Sable \u00bb et \u00ab Orni\u00e8res \u00bb. Ce dernier va augmenter le d\u00e9battement de la suspension et le fonctionnement moteur-bo\u00eete. De plus, toutes les fonctionnalit\u00e9s propres \u00e0 la conduite tout-terrain \u2013 mode 4x4i \u2013 vont s’afficher sur l’\u00e9cran de la console centrale. L’affichage t\u00eate haute et le tableau de bord vont \u00e9galement s\u2019adapter au contexte d’utilisation : blocage des diff\u00e9rentiels, r\u00e9partition de l’effort, assiette du v\u00e9hicule, etc. Mais contrairement aux Range Rover et Range Rover Sport<\/a>, le Velar ne dispose pas de petites vitesses. Sont disponibles \u00e9galement un mode personnalisable et un mode automatique, qui adaptera le v\u00e9hicule en fonction de la nature du terrain et des conditions.<\/p>\n

Les acc\u00e9l\u00e9rations sont franches malgr\u00e9 les 2\u2019293 kg \u00e0 vide de l’engin. A l’approche d’un virage, je me prends vite au jeu d\u2019entrer en l\u00e9g\u00e8re d\u00e9rive puis d\u2019\u00e9craser l’acc\u00e9l\u00e9rateur en sortie afin d’appr\u00e9cier la motricit\u00e9 de la traction int\u00e9grale ! En revanche, les freins pourraient avoir un peu plus de mordant et de puissance au vu des vitesses auxquelles cet engin nous propulse. Comme relat\u00e9 lors de l’essai du Jaguar F-Pace SVR<\/a>, j’ai \u00e9galement \u00e9t\u00e9 surpris par un sous-virage en entr\u00e9e d’\u00e9pingle lors des freinages tardifs. A noter que notre Velar est \u00e9quip\u00e9 de pneus toutes saisons s’\u00e9chauffant vite en conduite soutenue. Un choix de pneumatiques plus adapt\u00e9s permettra sans doute d\u2019am\u00e9liorer encore le comportement routier.<\/p>\n
