Au premier abord, son look est plut\u00f4t discret. Mais si on y regarde de plus pr\u00e8s, plusieurs d\u00e9tails la diff\u00e9rencient d\u2019une X3 conventionnelle. Tout d\u2019abord le pare-chocs aux prises d\u2019air imposantes donne un c\u00f4t\u00e9 agressif \u00e0 la face avant, alors que son homologue arri\u00e8re surplombe deux doubles sorties d\u2019\u00e9chappement. Un imposant becquet surplombe le coffre arri\u00e8re, et les superbes r\u00e9troviseurs reprennent le design de ceux des M3 F80. Les jantes enfin, qui sont ici en 20 pouces (21 pouces en option), remplissent bien les passages de roues.<\/p>\n

C\u00f4t\u00e9 int\u00e9rieur, pas de doute, on est bien \u00e0 bord d\u2019une BMW. Les commandes de l\u2019autoradio et de la climatisation, ainsi que la traditionnelle molette de l\u2019iDrive me le rappellent. Je suis par contre un peu perdu face aux nombreuses commandes pr\u00e9sentes et au maniement du nouveau levier de vitesses. Mais bien cal\u00e9 dans les si\u00e8ges sport M (CHF 1’650.-) aux appuie-t\u00eates r\u00e9glables \u00e9lectriquement, j\u2019ai tout loisir de les analyser un \u00e0 un.<\/p>\n

Mais un, ou plus pr\u00e9cis\u00e9ment deux boutons rouges retiennent mon intention. Badg\u00e9s M1 et M2, \u00e0 c\u00f4t\u00e9 des palettes, de part et d\u2019autre du volant. Ils permettent de s\u00e9lectionner rapidement des modes de conduite pr\u00e9alablement configur\u00e9s. Le top pour passer en un quart de seconde du mode p\u00e9p\u00e8re au mode attaque. La balade dans les menus me permet de r\u00e9gler la temp\u00e9rature en-dessous de laquelle le volant et les si\u00e8ges chauffants doivent s\u2019activer. La cl\u00e9 BMW Display (CHF 440.-) avec son \u00e9cran tactile permettant de contr\u00f4ler divers param\u00e8tres du v\u00e9hicule, n\u2019est pas l\u2019option la plus utile, mais tellement classe.<\/p>\n

Pression sur le bouton rouge Start, pour donner vie au moteur S58 \u00e0 6 cylindres en ligne. Avec un 0 \u00e0 100 km\/h promis en 4,2 secondes, le X3 M fait jeu \u00e9gal avec une M3 de 2016 dans cet exercice. Mais cela suffit-il \u00e0 qualifier sa conduite de sportive ?<\/p>\n

Premier constat, la sonorit\u00e9 est timide, malgr\u00e9 le voyant d\u2019ouverture des \u00e9chappements sur la console centrale. Il me faudra s\u00e9lectionner le mode Sport+ pour qu\u2019enfin le son devienne envo\u00fbtant. Direction les cols environnants pour tester ses capacit\u00e9s dynamiques. Pour ce faire, un petit bout d\u2019autoroute est \u00e0 pr\u00e9voir. Pas de soucis \u00e0 s\u2019ins\u00e9rer dans le trafic, une bonne pression sur la p\u00e9dale de droite vous fera vite atteindre des vitesses r\u00e9pr\u00e9hensibles. Gr\u00e2ce au Head-Up display (CHF 1’390.-) et \u00e0 la reconnaissance des panneaux, on peut surveiller sa vitesse sans quitter la route des yeux.<\/p>\n

Le premier col emprunt\u00e9 comporte de nombreuses \u00e9pingles serr\u00e9es. Si les acc\u00e9l\u00e9rations nous feraient croire \u00eatre au volant d\u2019une petite bombe, les freinages nous rem\u00e9morent les deux tonnes de l\u2019engin qui nous d\u00e9place. Un freinage tardif suivi d\u2019une entr\u00e9e trop forte dans l\u2019\u00e9pingle se solderont immanquablement par un fort sous-virage, certainement accentu\u00e9 par la monte hivernale. Il faut vraiment casser la vitesse avant l\u2019\u00e9pingle pour que l\u2019avant ne d\u00e9croche pas. L\u2019ABS, tr\u00e8s sensible, n\u2019aide pas non plus \u00e0 retarder les freinages.<\/p>\n

Contrairement \u00e0 la plupart des autres SUV sportifs, et gr\u00e2ce au syst\u00e8me M xDrive configur\u00e9 sur Sport, il faut ensuite se pr\u00e9parer \u00e0 ma\u00eetriser le survirage. On peut en effet choisir ce mode ou la r\u00e9partition est clairement typ\u00e9e propulsion, comme toute bonne Bavaroise qui se respecte. Ajout\u00e9 au diff\u00e9rentiel arri\u00e8re actif M, \u00e7a en devient un vrai r\u00e9gal. Sortir d\u2019\u00e9pingle en contre-braquage dans un engin de ce gabarit, \u00e7a n\u2019a pas de prix. \u00c7a n\u00e9cessite par contre de jouer des palettes.<\/p>\n

La rapidit\u00e9 de la bo\u00eete Steptronic 8 vitesses de chez ZF permet une pouss\u00e9e ininterrompue. Gr\u00e2ce au s\u00e9lecteur Drivelogic, on peut rapidement choisir entre 3 r\u00e9glages pour des lois de passages de vitesse privil\u00e9giant le confort ou la sportivit\u00e9.<\/p>\n

La partie descente est nettement plus roulante. Elle met \u00e0 rude \u00e9preuve l\u2019endurance des freins, pourtant compos\u00e9s d\u2019\u00e9triers fixes \u00e0 4 pistons \u00e0 l\u2019avant, serrant des disques composites M de 395 mm. Sentant que la course de la p\u00e9dale s\u2019allonge, je baisse le rythme. Ce qui aurait \u00e9t\u00e9 r\u00e9dhibitoire sur une vraie sportive peut \u00eatre pardonn\u00e9 \u00e0 un SUV. Une portion de route ralliant le d\u00e9part du prochain col permettra de les refroidir.<\/p>\n
