Au milieu des ann\u00e9es 2000, une folie nostalgique a \u00e9merg\u00e9 aux \u00c9tats-Unis\u00a0: celle de s\u2019inspirer de design d\u2019\u00e9poque pour relancer la production de pony cars mythiques. A la mani\u00e8re des c\u00e9l\u00e8bres Ford Mustang<\/a> et Chevrolet Camaro<\/a>, Dodge a ressorti ses vieux sketchs de la premi\u00e8re g\u00e9n\u00e9ration de sa Challenger sortie en 1970 afin de la faire rena\u00eetre de ses cendres. Sortie en 2007, la troisi\u00e8me g\u00e9n\u00e9ration du coup\u00e9 am\u00e9ricain a re\u00e7u un lifting en 2015, d\u00e9voilant au passage une version piment\u00e9e appel\u00e9e litt\u00e9ralement \u00ab\u00a0chat de l\u2019enfer\u00a0\u00bb. Depuis, dompter un f\u00e9lin n\u2019aura jamais \u00e9t\u00e9 aussi amusant.<\/p>\n

Woaw\u00a0! Cela doit \u00eatre l\u2019expression la plus fr\u00e9quente lorsque l\u2019on croise le regard de cette Challenger SRT Hellcat. Et que dire, elle ne peut qu\u2019en imposer avec ses 1,92 m\u00e8tres de largeur et surtout ses 5 m\u00e8tres de longueur. Tout droit sortie d\u2019un bon vieux sc\u00e9nar d\u2019Hollywood, la Challenger est massive, carr\u00e9e, et a du cran. D\u2019ailleurs, sa ligne n\u2019a pas \u00e9volu\u00e9 depuis la sortie de sa troisi\u00e8me g\u00e9n\u00e9ration, qui reprend parfaitement les lignes de l\u2019initiale. Son design neo-retro est rudement bien interpr\u00e9t\u00e9\u00a0: calandre rectiligne \u00e0 l\u2019avant, prenant toute la largeur de l\u2019auto et abritant quatre phares ronds. Ces derniers rendent la b\u00eate agressive, puisqu\u2019en feux de jours ils s\u2019illuminent en orange. Deux d\u2019entre eux ne sont pas de simples ronds mais sont v\u00e9ritablement creus\u00e9s, abritant des cercles de LED et le logo \u00ab\u00a0Hellcat\u00a0\u00bb qui s\u2019allume. Le petit d\u00e9tail qui tue sur ce chat \u00e9nerv\u00e9, le phare avant gauche c\u00f4t\u00e9 conducteur est carr\u00e9ment \u00e9vid\u00e9, permettant \u00e0 l\u2019air de p\u00e9n\u00e9trer directement dans la boite \u00e0 air.<\/p>\n

Les diff\u00e9rences ext\u00e9rieures par rapport \u00e0 une Challenger normale sont minimes. La Hellcat se reconna\u00eet \u00e0 sa g\u00e9n\u00e9reuse lame avant, son capot l\u00e9g\u00e8rement bomb\u00e9 avec ses prises d\u2019air et sa lame de coffre arri\u00e8re, estamp\u00e9e du logo du chat. L\u2019arri\u00e8re est le m\u00eame que celui de 1970, reprenant ces feux rectangulaires \u00e0 bords ronds en plus moderne. Pour rendre le tout plus \u00ab\u00a0badass\u00a0\u00bb, cette teinte \u00ab\u00a0TorRed\u00a0\u00bb habille parfaitement le coup\u00e9. Prenons maintenant possession de la b\u00eate. Tout para\u00eet lourd et ferme \u00e0 bord de cette Challenger. Les porti\u00e8res ainsi que le coffre ne font pas office de figuration, tant ils sont pesants. Je prends place dans un si\u00e8ge tr\u00e8s confortable, qui contraste avec le temp\u00e9rament apparent de l’auto. J\u2019ai l\u2019impression d\u2019\u00eatre assis dans mon canap\u00e9, tant ce dernier est large et agr\u00e9able. Un large tableau de bord s\u2019\u00e9tant devant moi, \u00e0 la mani\u00e8re d\u2019un bureau. Le bloc compteur s\u2019inspire de ceux des anciennes voitures am\u00e9ricaines, proposant deux compteurs analogiques ronds de chaque c\u00f4t\u00e9, rappelant forc\u00e9ment les phares du v\u00e9hicule. Au milieu, on y retrouve un \u00e9cran digital permettant d\u2019afficher, entre autres, la vitesse en km\/h – car le compteur analogique l\u2019affiche seulement en miles\/h !<\/p>\n

L\u2019espace aux places arri\u00e8re re\u00e7ois le m\u00eame traitement qu\u2019\u00e0 l\u2019avant. Voiture am\u00e9ricaine oblige, le syst\u00e8me son Harman Kardon est sans doute l\u2019un des meilleurs que j\u2019ai rencontr\u00e9s dans une voiture, dans un style outre-atlantique, avec des basses ultra pr\u00e9sentes. Plus une seconde \u00e0 perdre, prenons le volant de ce dragster\u00a0! Doux avec la p\u00e9dale, la Challenger est plaisante. On roule tout sur le couple et c\u2019est un pur bonheur de pouvoir cruiser au son du V8 (accompagn\u00e9 par celui du compresseur) tel un bandit. L\u2019addition des assises et d\u2019un bon amortissement pourront vous faire avaler les kilom\u00e8tres sans soucis. Mais comment cela va-t-il se passer lorsque l\u2019on va commencer \u00e0 br\u00fbler de la gomme\u00a0? En appuyant sur le bouton SRT, un panel de r\u00e9glages sur 5 \u00e9l\u00e9ments diff\u00e9rents s\u2019offre \u00e0 moi. Suspension, transmission ou encore boite de vitesse, je l\u00e2che les chevaux et passe tout en mode Track. A la premi\u00e8re franche acc\u00e9l\u00e9ration, l\u2019auto me catapulte au fond du si\u00e8ge, obligeant \u00e0 me cramponner \u00e0 son volant, tout \u00e7a au son aigu du compresseur qui vient \u2013 presque \u00e0 tort \u2013 masquer le bruit du moteur.<\/p>\n

Pied au plancher, toute cette puissance a logiquement beaucoup de mal \u00e0 passer au sol et fait rapidement fumer les pneus de 275 mm \u00e0 l\u2019arri\u00e8re. L\u2019auto est lourde \u00e0 mener mais le roulis est \u00e9tonnement contenu, gage d\u2019une suspension raffermie. La boite automatique ZF 8HP90 \u00e0 8 rapports est r\u00e9active mais souvent peu agr\u00e9able, vous infligeant un s\u00e9rieux \u00e0-coup \u00e0 chaque mont\u00e9e ou descente de vitesse. En parlant de passage de rapports, la position des palettes au volant n\u2019est clairement pas un succ\u00e8s, m\u2019obligeant \u00e0 changer ma position des mains sur le volant pour pouvoir les manier. Dommage aussi que c\u00f4t\u00e9 direction rien ne soit chang\u00e9 en mode Track, cette derni\u00e8re restant trop molle pour \u00eatre communicative en conduite sportive.
