Pr\u00e9sent\u00e9e pour la premi\u00e8re fois au grand public en f\u00e9vrier 1989 lors du Chicago Motor Show, la Mazda MX-5 (d\u00e9nomm\u00e9e Miata pour le march\u00e9 Am\u00e9ricain) a tout de suite su d\u00e9clencher une vraie cure de jouvence dans le milieu de l\u2019automobile sportive bon march\u00e9. D\u00e9tenant m\u00eame le prix du cabriolet bi-place le plus vendu au monde avec ses plus d\u2019un million d\u2019exemplaires distribu\u00e9s \u00e0 travers les quatre coins du globe (chiffre atteint en 2016), le petit cabriolet japonais continue de s\u00e9duire en reprenant la formule propos\u00e9e par les petits roadsters anglais des ann\u00e9es 60.<\/p>\n

Conservant des proportions restreintes, la quatri\u00e8me g\u00e9n\u00e9ration de la Mazda MX-5 apparue en 2015 propose une ligne de profil tr\u00e8s fine et l\u00e9g\u00e8re. Optiques ac\u00e9r\u00e9s et agressifs incrust\u00e9s sur une face avant plongeante, nouvelle bouche de calandre agrandie, le roadster japonais a su gagner en agressivit\u00e9 sans devenir vulgaire. Les ailes bomb\u00e9es d\u00e9bouchant sur le capot l\u00e9g\u00e8rement creus\u00e9 sont du plus bel effet. La double sortie d\u2019\u00e9chappement vient accentuer le c\u00f4t\u00e9 sportif de l\u2019auto, alors que les feux arri\u00e8re rond am\u00e8nent une touche r\u00e9tro. Seule l\u2019antenne titanesque fait un peu t\u00e2che dans le paysage, mais cette derni\u00e8re peut \u00eatre raccourcie en option. Une chose est s\u00fbre, la Mazda MX-5 n\u2019a pas perdu de son charme, surtout dans cette teinte Ceramic (CHF 800.-) qui semble tirer r\u00e9ellement son \u00e9pingle du jeu dans le nuancier de base du cabriolet.<\/p>\n

De magnifiques si\u00e8ges Recaro mi cuir\/alcantara (option Sport Pack \u00e0 CHF 3’000.-) nous accueillent dans un habitacle plut\u00f4t \u00e9triqu\u00e9. Les si\u00e8ges de la MX-5 n\u2019\u00e9tant pas r\u00e9glables en hauteur, les personnes d\u00e9passant les 190cm verront leur t\u00eate ne faire qu\u2019un avec la capote…<\/p>\n

Tombant directement dans la main, le levier de vitesses est pr\u00e9cis avec un d\u00e9battement tr\u00e8s court pour des passages de rapports id\u00e9aux. Au milieu du paysage automobile actuel, le roadster nippon s\u2019en tient \u00e0 l\u2019essentiel avec son moteur atmosph\u00e9rique, sa capote 100% manuelle et son poids contenu d\u00e9passant \u00e0 peine la tonne (1\u2019030 kg). Et cela se confirme sur la route : pas besoin de rouler comme un fangio pour prendre du plaisir \u00e0 son volant tant l\u2019auto retransmet l’environnement \u00e0 son conducteur. Direction et commande de boite son pr\u00e9cises, tout en restant assez fermes. Les mont\u00e9es en r\u00e9gime ne sont qu\u2019un simple exercice pour la MX-5 car le moteur est plein sur toute sa plage d\u2019utilisation. Cela est notamment le fruit de son syst\u00e8me de distribution variable.<\/p>\n

Je d\u00e9sactive l\u2019ESP afin de prendre pleinement la mesure de son comportement. Voiture lib\u00e9r\u00e9e, j\u2019enfonce le pied au plancher. La sonorit\u00e9 est plaisante mais reste trop discr\u00e8te \u00e0 mon go\u00fbt. A 7\u2019500 trs\/min, il est temps de changer de rapport avant d\u2019attaquer les premi\u00e8res courbes. Les premi\u00e8res enfilades se passent tr\u00e8s bien, le cabriolet ne bronche pas d\u2019un poil et il faut vraiment y aller fort pour provoquer le survirage tant le diff\u00e9rentiel rempli bien sa t\u00e2che. La prise de roulis n\u2019entache pas le plaisir de conduite, mais compte tenu de la pr\u00e9sence d\u2019amortisseurs Bilstein, je m\u2019attendais \u00e0 un peu moins de mouvements de caisse. Les vitesses de passages en courbe sont impressionnantes, mais lorsqu\u2019on provoque le diable sur les changements de cap rapides, le comportement de la MX-5 n\u2019est pas toujours souverain et mieux vaut bien savoir ce que l\u2019on fait lorsque l\u2019ESP est d\u00e9branch\u00e9.<\/p>\n

Enfin, c\u00f4t\u00e9 consommation, comptez 6,0l\/100km sur l\u2019autoroute et 9,5l\/100km en conduite sportive, ce qui reste tr\u00e8s raisonnable compte tenu de son moteur.<\/p>\n
