Rouler sur une piste de glace est toujours une exp\u00e9rience excitante. Je suis comme un gamin d\u00e8s que l’occasion s’y pr\u00e9sente. Si mes coll\u00e8gues ont d\u00e9j\u00e0 pu tester des v\u00e9hicules \u00e0 Bullet<\/a>, Bourg-St-Pierre<\/a> et Flaine<\/a>, c’est direction Barcelone que je vais m’envoler pour essayer le Cupra Ateca. Vous avez bien lu !<\/p>\n

A moins de 3 heures de route de la capitale catalane se trouve le circuit de Pas de la Casa. Situ\u00e9 dans les Pyr\u00e9n\u00e9es, il se trouve dans la principaut\u00e9 d’Andorre, \u00e0 2\u2019400 m d’altitude. Se pr\u00e9sentant comme le plus haut circuit permanent au monde, il accueille chaque ann\u00e9e une manche du troph\u00e9e Andros. C’est l\u00e0 que le constructeur Cupra nous a convi\u00e9s pour essayer son Ateca.<\/p>\n

Nous prenons possession des v\u00e9hicules \u00e0 l’a\u00e9roport, et partons en direction de Puigcerd\u00e1, o\u00f9 est situ\u00e9 notre h\u00f4tel. Constitu\u00e9 en grande partie d’autoroute, la premi\u00e8re partie du trajet permet de se familiariser avec les diff\u00e9rents menus et affichages du Digital Cockpit. Il permet l\u2019affichage du GPS dans l\u2019\u00e9cran qui remplace les traditionnels compteurs. Ma place de passager me permet de m\u2019amuser avec l\u2019\u00e9cran central de 8 pouces, et d\u2019y afficher notre fid\u00e8le logo, comme sur le reste de la gamme<\/a>. Le changement des modes de conduite ne laisse planer aucun doute sur la pr\u00e9sence d’amortisseurs pilot\u00e9s ! Le mode Cupra parait m\u00eame caricatural. Il m\u2019est par exemple impossible de pianoter sur l’\u00e9cran tactile sans sursauter. Nous s\u00e9lectionnons donc le mode confort pour ce trajet paisible.<\/p>\n

A mi-chemin, nous \u00e9changeons les r\u00f4les. Encore un peu d\u2019autoroute, et enfin, les premiers d\u00e9nivel\u00e9s s\u2019offrent \u00e0 moi. Nous empruntons une large route de montagne, qui nous emm\u00e8ne jusqu’\u00e0 1\u2019200 m d’altitude. Le roulis amorc\u00e9 dans les premi\u00e8res courbes me fait rapidement utiliser le s\u00e9lecteur de mode pour passer en Cupra. Le conducteur de la Mini John Cooper Works qui me pr\u00e9c\u00e9dait \u00e0 bon rythme, a d\u00fb \u00eatre surpris de l\u2019efficacit\u00e9 du SUV espagnol\u2026<\/p>\n

Apr\u00e8s le check-in \u00e0 l\u2019h\u00f4tel et le repas, place aux choses s\u00e9rieuses. La mont\u00e9e jusqu’\u00e0 Pas de la Casa. Et les routes environnantes sont justes incroyables. Une grande visibilit\u00e9, peu de circulation, bref de quoi pouvoir pleinement exploiter les 300 ch. Mode Cupra et ESC off. Si les encha\u00eenements sont parcourus \u00e0 vive allure, il semble difficile de passer proprement les \u00e9pingles. Suis-je peut-\u00eatre trop optimiste ? Avec une tendance au sous-virage en entr\u00e9e, et l’arriv\u00e9e du couple retard\u00e9e par l’\u00e9lectronique en sortie, le Cupra Ateca n\u2019est pas dans son meilleur \u00e9l\u00e9ment dans ces virages serr\u00e9s. En ce sens, mon exp\u00e9rience diff\u00e8re de celle de mon coll\u00e8gue ayant essay\u00e9 le Cupra Ateca en automne dernier dans des conditions plus cl\u00e9mentes<\/a>. Mais une fois les roues droites, l’encha\u00eenement des rapports se fait sans coupure, et des vitesses r\u00e9pr\u00e9hensibles sont tr\u00e8s vite atteintes. Le d\u00e9passement des quelques chicanes mobiles n\u2019a d\u2019ailleurs pos\u00e9 aucun probl\u00e8me.<\/p>\n

S’en suit le passage de la douane qui s\u00e9pare la France de la principaut\u00e9 d’Andorre, puis, peu apr\u00e8s, l’arriv\u00e9e au circuit. L\u00e0, je d\u00e9couvre les Cupra Ateca destin\u00e9s \u00e0 notre exp\u00e9rience sur le circuit, munis de pneus clous Nokian. Toutefois, un rapide coup d\u2019\u0153il \u00e0 l\u2019\u00e9tat de la piste me fait craindre le pire. La chaleur de cette fin-f\u00e9vrier ne laisse que peu de chance \u00e0 la glace de se former. Le d\u00e9roulement du roulage sur la piste s\u2019en trouvera chamboul\u00e9, mais nous pourrons quand m\u00eame rouler. \u00c7a ne sera pas le cas pour la Cupra e-Racer, le mod\u00e8le de course, d\u00e9velopp\u00e9 sur la base de la Leon TCR, et \u00e9quip\u00e9 de pneus clous comp\u00e9titions. Pr\u00e9sent\u00e9e \u00e0 Gen\u00e8ve en 2018, elle permet le d\u00e9veloppement d\u2019un groupe propulseur \u00e9lectrique, qui pourrait \u00e9quiper diff\u00e9rentes marques d\u00e9sirant participer \u00e0 un championnat sur circuit. La marque de la batterie \u00e9quipant la b\u00eate ? Rimac. Richard Hammond appr\u00e9ciera.<\/p>\n

Mais revenons \u00e0 nos Ateca. Premier exercice\u00a0: le passage d’un S, avec 3 configurations diff\u00e9rentes. ESC on, ESC sport, puis ESC off. Sans surprise, le premier ne permet pas de glisser. A la moindre amorce de glisse, l’\u00e9lectronique intervient. Deuxi\u00e8me passage, en mode sport. L’\u00e9lectronique devient beaucoup plus permissive, et permet de jolies d\u00e9rives, qui restent contr\u00f4l\u00e9es. Enfin, avec l\u2019ESC off, c\u2019est au pilote de g\u00e9rer enti\u00e8rement la glisse.<\/p>\n

Apr\u00e8s cet exercice, nous effectuons trois tours chacun du circuit, en mode ESC sport. La mise en travers par appel\/contre-appel se fait facilement, et il est ais\u00e9 de maintenir le v\u00e9hicule en glisse dans les grandes et moyennes courbes. \u00c7a se corse au passage de l\u2019\u00e9pingle. Lorsque l\u2019angle de volant devient trop important, l\u2019\u00e9lectronique reprend le dessus et limite fortement la mont\u00e9e en r\u00e9gime. Un peu frustrant, mais compr\u00e9hensible de la part du constructeur, qui veut garder intact ses mod\u00e8les d\u2019essai.<\/p>\n

La nouvelle marque Cupra a pour objectif la vente de 1’000 Cupra Ateca en Suisse en 2019.
