L\u2019histoire du Cayman a toujours \u00e9t\u00e9 intimement li\u00e9e \u00e0 celle de sa grande s\u0153ur, la 911. D\u00e8s sa sortie en 2005, tous ont relev\u00e9 l\u2019\u00e9norme potentiel dynamique du Cayman, mais beaucoup l\u2019ont souvent consid\u00e9r\u00e9 comme sous motoris\u00e9. En 2011, en guise de point final \u00e0 la g\u00e9n\u00e9ration 987, Porsche a produit un Cayman d\u00e9lur\u00e9 nomm\u00e9 \u00ab R \u00bb. All\u00e9g\u00e9 d\u2019une cinquantaine de kg, celui-ci est encore plus agile gr\u00e2ce \u00e0 son ch\u00e2ssis abaiss\u00e9 et raffermi. Mais coiff\u00e9 de seulement 10 ch de plus que le Cayman S (soit 330 ch), il ne peut r\u00e9ellement faire parler la poudre. Beaucoup resteront sur leur faim et maintiendront que Porsche limite les performances du Cayman par peur qu\u2019il ne fasse de l\u2019ombre \u00e0 la 911.<\/p>\n

Mais c\u2019\u00e9tait sans compter sur l\u2019audace du constructeur de Zuffenhausen. Comme pour f\u00eater ses 10 ans d\u2019existence et apr\u00e8s avoir repousser tellement loin les limites des 991 GT3 et GT3 RS, Porsche d\u00e9voile enfin une version totalement d\u00e9sinhib\u00e9e du Cayman 981 : le GT4 est n\u00e9 !<\/p>\n

Avec ses 385 ch, il supplante le GTS de 45 ch gr\u00e2ce \u00e0 l\u2019implantation du bloc 3.8 litres issu de la Carrera S, tout en ayant perdu 5 petits kilos. Il h\u00e9rite de nombreux \u00e9l\u00e9ments de la GT3 tels que les freins, le train avant et les jantes, et peut recevoir un arceau ainsi que des si\u00e8ges baquets. Avec un tel cahier des charges, la GT3 n\u2019a plus que ses 90ch suppl\u00e9mentaires comme avantage, tandis que sa bo\u00eete robotis\u00e9e PDK et son moteur plac\u00e9 en sac \u00e0 dos sont d\u2019\u00e9ternels d\u00e9bats philosophiques. En th\u00e9orie, elle aurait presque de quoi s\u2019inqui\u00e9ter pour son avenir. En r\u00e9alit\u00e9, le Cayman GT4 ne sera produit qu\u2019\u00e0 2’000 exemplaires. Quand Porsche d\u00e9bride son Cayman, elle en bride la production : on ne touche pas \u00e0 l\u2019ic\u00f4ne 911 dont le mythe a d\u00e9but\u00e9 il y a plus de 50 ans.<\/p>\n

A l\u2019instar de la GT3, impossible pour lui de passer inaper\u00e7u, le Cayman GT4 affiche clairement ses ambitions de reine des circuits. Jantes de 20\u2019 au design sp\u00e9cifique, aileron surdimensionn\u00e9, cerclages de phares noirs, entre autres. A l\u2019int\u00e9rieur tout est possible en fonction des go\u00fbts de l\u2019acheteur, la configuration de base\u00a0restant tr\u00e8s civilis\u00e9e\u00a0: pas de baquets, d\u2019arceau, ni d\u2019extincteur. Heureusement, l\u2019habitacle que j\u2019ai la chance d\u2019avoir entre les mains est nettement moins triste\u00a0: le pack clubsport comprenant l\u2019arceau, le harnais 6 points et l\u2019extincteur est bien l\u00e0, tout comme\u00a0les superbes baquets carbone issus de la 918 Spyder !\u00a0Ces \u00e9l\u00e9ments repr\u00e9sentent un surplus sal\u00e9\u00a0de CHF 8’200.-, mais qui sont indispensables \u00e0 mes yeux dans une telle auto. Le pack int\u00e9rieur carbone (CHF 1’200.-) est \u00e9galement de la partie et colle parfaitement \u00e0 la philosophie GT4. La finition, l\u2019assemblage et le choix des mat\u00e9riaux sont conformes au reste de la gamme\u00a0: exemplaires.<\/p>\n

Afin de dompter ce reptile progressivement, j\u2019emprunte quelques tron\u00e7ons rectilignes. Sans m\u00eame commencer \u00e0 l\u2019exploiter, je suis rapidement emball\u00e9 par l\u2019homog\u00e9n\u00e9it\u00e9 du produit. La prise en main est imm\u00e9diate, la position de conduite excellente et d\u00e9j\u00e0 le chant rauque du 3.8L flatte mon oreille m\u00eame \u00e0 bas r\u00e9gimes. Les baquets int\u00e9graux en carbone dont l\u2019inclinaison du dossier est fixe conf\u00e8rent un maintien optimal sans toutefois demeurer trop inconfortables. La commande de la bo\u00eete manuelle \u00e0 6 rapports, courte, ferme et pr\u00e9cise, fait merveille au point d\u2019en abuser. D\u2019autant plus qu’elle est dot\u00e9e de la fonction \u00ab Rev-Matching \u00bb. Dispensant son pilote de l\u2019exercice du talon-pointe, cette fonction d\u00e9sactivable ajuste le r\u00e9gime moteur automatiquement lorsque l\u2019on r\u00e9trograde, de mani\u00e8re similaire \u00e0 ce qui est produit par les bo\u00eetes robotis\u00e9es modernes.<\/p>\n

Fini les routes du Gros de Vaud, et direction le col du Mollendruz. Un terrain de jeux qui lui semble d\u2019embl\u00e9e plus adapt\u00e9, quoique\u2026 L\u2019automne bat son plein mais l\u2019hiver n\u2019est pas loin et les cimes des sapins, saupoudr\u00e9es des premi\u00e8res neiges, me le rappellent. Il faudra se montrer m\u00e9fiant, car je n\u2019ai pas envie que l\u2019excellente relation entam\u00e9e avec mon carrossier ne se transforme en cauchemar\u00a0!<\/p>\n

Segment apr\u00e8s segment, le GT4 peut enfin commencer \u00e0 d\u00e9montrer son efficacit\u00e9. M\u00eame sur les quelques portions humides parcourues avec prudence, les sensations sont l\u00e0, amplifi\u00e9es par les rugissements du flat 6 de 3.8L situ\u00e9 juste derri\u00e8re mon dos. L\u2019\u00e9chappement commut\u00e9 en mode Sport, chacune de ses envol\u00e9es lyriques flirtant avec son rupteur plac\u00e9 \u00e0 7\u2019800 trs\/min m\u2019envoie au paradis. Et quelle motricit\u00e9 ! Impossible de titiller les limites d\u2019adh\u00e9rence sur les longs encha\u00eenements sous peine de me voir devenir l\u2019ennemi public num\u00e9ro 1 de la mar\u00e9chauss\u00e9e. Mais d\u00e8s que \u00e7a tourne sec, je peux le chercher un peu plus et c\u2019est bien l\u00e0 qu\u2019il affiche toute son agilit\u00e9. Sa direction tr\u00e8s directe et communicative, son train avant ultra pr\u00e9cis, son attaque de frein progressive mais au combien performante, sa r\u00e9activit\u00e9 imm\u00e9diate aux gaz : il donne l\u2019impression de pouvoir le placer o\u00f9 l\u2019on veut comme on veut, et on se prend rapidement pour un pilote en herbe \u00e0 son volant. Le tout demandant quand m\u00eame un certain exercice puisque, contrairement \u00e0 la grande tendance actuelle de ce segment, le GT4 se pilote \u00e0 travers sa bo\u00eete manuelle \u00e0 6 rapports qui, malgr\u00e9 son d\u00e9veloppement un peu long, ach\u00e8ve de me convaincre totalement du produit.<\/p>\n

Forc\u00e9ment, en conduite soutenue, il est pr\u00e9f\u00e9rable de charger suffisamment le train avant lors des freinages pour augmenter le pouvoir directionnel avant de r\u00e9-acc\u00e9l\u00e9rer franchement. Mais \u00e0 ce sujet, le Cayman GT4 n\u2019est pas un cas d\u2019\u00e9cole : ne pas suivre cette r\u00e8gle ne va pas forc\u00e9ment se traduire par un sous-virage qui vous envoie dans la glissi\u00e8re. Pas particuli\u00e8rement sous-vireur, il accepte volontiers de survirer progressivement sans m\u00eame l\u2019avoir cherch\u00e9.<\/p>\n

Si la diff\u00e9rence de duret\u00e9 du ch\u00e2ssis est peu perceptible entre les deux modes propos\u00e9s, le compromis de celui-ci est exceptionnel : ferme mais jamais inconfortable, le roulis reste minime et les mouvements de caisse aux freinages sont bien maitris\u00e9s. Du grand art.<\/p>\n
