Le salon Grand Basel, qui a eu lieu \u00e0 B\u00e2le du 6 au 9 septembre, a \u00e9t\u00e9 l\u2019\u00e9v\u00e9nement de la rentr\u00e9e \u00e0 ne manquer sous aucun pr\u00e9texte pour les amateurs de belles voitures. Il a en effet \u00e9rig\u00e9 l\u2019automobile au rang d\u2019\u0153uvre d\u2019art.<\/strong><\/p>\n

Qualifi\u00e9 de \u00absalon\u00a0des chefs d\u2019\u0153uvre automobiles\u00bb, Grand Basel a \u00e9t\u00e9 un \u00ab\u00e9clatant succ\u00e8s\u00bb. C\u2019est en tout cas ce qu\u2019ont d\u00e9clar\u00e9 ses organisateurs au terme de la premi\u00e8re \u00e9dition qui a attir\u00e9 \u00abplus de 12’000 visiteurs, compos\u00e9s d\u2019amateurs, d\u2019experts, de collectionneurs et de passionn\u00e9s de culture\u00bb. Car Grand Basel n\u2019est pas seulement une exposition mais \u00e9galement \u00abune plate-forme de la culture automobile\u00bb.<\/p>\n

Les 113 v\u00e9hicules expos\u00e9s \u2013 \u00abdont un quart \u00e9tait officiellement disponible \u00e0 la vente\u00a0\u00bb \u2013 n\u2019\u00e9taient pas tous exclusifs ou de tr\u00e8s haut de gamme. Il y avait \u00e9galement plusieurs mod\u00e8les populaires, \u00abculturellement int\u00e9ressants\u00bb, \u00e0 l\u2019image d\u2019une Ford Consul Capri, \u00abfascinant m\u00e9lange de lignes am\u00e9ricaines, de nom italien et d\u2019exigences britanniques\u00bb.<\/p>\n

Une autre voiture populaire \u00e9tait une Fiat Panda dessin\u00e9e par Giorgetto Giugiaro dont on a f\u00eat\u00e9 le 80\u00e8me anniversaire le 7 ao\u00fbt dernier. Sacr\u00e9 \u00abDesigner du si\u00e8cle\u00bb en 1999, Giorgetto Giugiaro a notamment dessin\u00e9 les Alfa Romeo 2600 Sprint (1962), Giulia GT (1963), Alfasud (1971) et GTV (1974). Parmi ses nombreuses cr\u00e9ations, on citera encore la Lotus Esprit (1972),\u00a0les VW Golf 1 et Scirocco 1 (toutes deux en 1974), les Fiat 850 Spider (1965), Uno (1983) et Punto (1993), ainsi que la Maserati Ghibli (1966), les Iso Rivolta (1961), Grifo (1963) et Fida (1967), ces quatre derniers mod\u00e8les \u00e9tant tous expos\u00e9s \u00e0 B\u00e2le.<\/p>\n

Les liens entre Giorgetto Giugiaro et la Suisse sont tr\u00e8s \u00e9troits. C\u2019est en effet au Salon de Gen\u00e8ve de 1963 qu\u2019il pr\u00e9sente l\u2019un de ses chefs-d\u2019\u0153uvre: la Chevrolet Corvair Testudo, l\u2019une des grandes vedettes de cette premi\u00e8re \u00e9dition de Grand Basel. Apr\u00e8s avoir vendu sa compagnie Ital Design \u00e0 Volkswagen, Giorgetto Giugiaro et son fils Fabrizio ont fond\u00e9 GFG et c\u2019est \u00e0 nouveau \u00e0 Gen\u00e8ve que leur prototype GFG Sybilla \u2013 expos\u00e9 lui aussi \u00e0 B\u00e2le \u2013 a f\u00eat\u00e9 cette ann\u00e9e sa premi\u00e8re mondiale.<\/p>\n

Un autre lien entre Giorgetto Giugiaro et notre pays est qu\u2019il a fait construire en 1987, dans ses ateliers d\u2019Ital Design, la c\u00e9l\u00e8bre voiture Minimum que l\u2019architecte suisse Le Corbusier, de son vrai nom Charles-Edouard Jeanneret, projeta en 1928. On ajoutera que l\u2019architecture a \u00e9t\u00e9 un autre point tr\u00e8s important de Grand Basel. On s\u2019en rend compte avant m\u00eame d\u2019entrer dans le b\u00e2timent de la Foire de B\u00e2le qui abrite ce nouveau salon.<\/p>\n

R\u00e9alis\u00e9 par les architectes b\u00e2lois Jacques Herzog et Pierre de Meuron, ce b\u00e2timent a la forme d\u2019une gigantesque roue aux \u00e9cailles lumineuses. Sa partie centrale, \u00e0 l\u2019air libre, fait office de puits de lumi\u00e8re sur la Messeplatz. A peine entr\u00e9 dans le b\u00e2timent, le visiteur d\u00e9couvre la voiture Linea Diamante que le c\u00e9l\u00e8bre architecte italien Gi\u00f2 Ponti avait con\u00e7ue en 1953.<\/p>\n
